2022 WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA PENGUIN CUP SCHEDULE

Surprised NA lost. Was anyone at the game that could provide a recap? How do you see the Seneca Valley vs Peters Township matchup for the Penguins Cup?

From what I could see, NA was rolling two lines most of the night with one player being on the ice 75-80% of the time which I do not know how that is humanly possible at this level.  NA ran out of gas while Seneca mixed their lines to keep fresh legs in the mix.  PT was dominant against PR and I would assume they are the heavy favorite vs Seneca but who knows?  PT has lots of depth with some 9th and 10th graders contributing, as does Seneca.  Should be interesting.

I know PT has a freshman that is their top scorer.

Yes,  running just two lines won't work.  You can even go 1-2, 1,2  3 but they need a break in there.  If it is a competitive game you usually won't get away with rolling just two lines.  MAYBE four defensemen but not two lines up front.  Especially centers.

@Pa Hockey are you sure about the March 26 date for state finals?  That's not published anywhere that I can find.

It's published on PIHL's homepage under Important Dates...the games will be played at Ice Line in Westchester.

Here's the schedule:

Bishop Canevin vs Neshannock for D2 title. Neshannock Ringgold game was intense. Neshannock looking to go back to back. Two best goalies in D2

We get it, your kid plays for neshannock. It’s that a real division ?

Ahhh…there it is. Coop hockey sucks guy. Shame we don’t live around a large urban area with lots of hockey.
Just an FYI. We beat Cathederal prep in non section games twice and McDowell about a month ago.
Want to grow hockey? Quit treating the areas that have to work hard to field teams like second class.
I guarantee Canevin, Ringgold, Wilmington and Neshannock would have held their own in Single A.

Good Luck to Neshannock and Canevin in the Championship Game. It is about growing hockey in Western Pennsylvania

Good Luck to McDowell, Norwin Thomas Jefferson Franklin Regional Seneca Valley and Peters Township in the Penguins Cup and States.

All of these are fine programs at different stages of development and should be celebrated regardless as these students achieve a lifetime goal - Congrats to all!

Only 25 skaters (23 boys and 2 girls) at McDowell for varsity and jv. We belong at A level for now but trying to build the program.

McDowell can only get 23 boys out of more than 1000 to play ice hockey? There are football and soccer programs at the high school level that suck and lose every game because they just can’t get enough kids to play. They don’t move those schools down a classification. Don’t come at me with the “it’s expensive to play hockey”

The problem with ice hockey is the cost.  You may have 2100 students but how many can afford to play?  It not like football where anyone can play at next to no cost. Ice hockey is a totally different animal. You can not go off school size alone.  When PIHL did,  you had teams in AAA getting blown out by 25 goals and organizations loosing teams because they got tired of getting blown out.

PIHL should look at the number of kids in a program as a factor in classification. The difference between programs that can field full varsity and JV teams and those that can’t is usually a pretty good indication as to strength of program.  And the number of seniors a team lost from previous season should also be a factor.

This is common sense and why would that matter? Great Post !!

It's pretty simple

Schools with Multiple JV and MS Programs (60 + Players ) AAA - These programs are loaded with numbers and should be AAA

            Schools with JV + MS (40 - 60 Players) AA -

Schools with 40 Players or Less VAR - MS A - Usuallly lots of 9 and 10th graders forced to play Varsity due to NO JV

Co Op for multiple school programs B

This is just the base factor and IS close to where we are now through the competitive formula. It is working well so far and Norwin  and McDowell should be in A until they build up numbers.

All of these are fine programs at different stages of development and should be celebrated regardless as these students achieve a lifetime goal - Congrats to all!
