 Will you be rating the top players in Western PA & Eastern PA like you did last year? I wanted to get your opinion on the all-star format today vs what it was like before when it was the SHIHL & WPIHL leagues. They had both leagues play a (A, AA & AAA) game. Then the best in WPIHL/SHIHL game. Then the (2) leagues would play. I believe they then would recognize a 1st & 2nd team. Would be neat if it was possible to do a similar format. After the PIHL Divisional games pick 2 teams to play another game. You could then pick one team & play an eastern PA final team. I know PIHL is by far the best organization in Western PA & very forward thinking & orginized. I think with the new broadcasting additions this year & something like this would elevate high School hockey another level. These kinds of things build kids moral. The more fun High School is the better competition you will get.

The idea when we formed the PIHL was to have ONE` All Star Game at AAA, AA and A in 1999.

The number of schools of participating should 16 at AAA 16 at AA and 16 at A and the rest in development in B  

All Star Games are the best players at ALL Levels and is pretty close to the Vision of 20 + years ago

I had proposed at one point a top 25 game between Eastern and Western Pa to be played on the day of the State Finals involving players not participating in States  (the top 25 is in the works for 2023)

What High School Hockey needs is one person in charge of program development and to work building new and existing organizations for the aforementioned to come to fruition

1 game in a tournament? I have seen teams win by 3 1 day and lose by 8 the next to the exact same team.

The (4) divisions could be split better with 57 teams competing and almost half (23) are in A.

Yes but that is hard when school hockey is not as important around here as it is in other parts of the country. That and a lot of the better kids don't/can't play school.

January 2023 Thoughts 

AAA

Holy Ghost Prep appears top dog in the East while Peters Twp maintains top in West  with lots of challengers 

AA

South Fayette and Armstrong appear headed for a showdown in West but TJ is red hot while Pennridge owns the title 

A

Can anyone challenge West Chester East . Fox Chapel and North Hills think so ?

think it'll be Armstrong and TJ foor cup finals.    SF vs Armstrong game last week, Armstrong physically beat no the lions all game and was closer then it could have been. not to mention Armstrong is a balanced team while Sf has a very good top line but falls off alot after that. contain the one line and its smooth sailing.

Dont forget Latrobe and any of  the top 8 ? Playoffs should be fun in Class AA

 North Hills is a good team but lack depth. Their goal tender can steal a game though. The deepest team in this division is actually Montour. They have three lines that score regularly, and their fourth line has produced offense as well. In the lone game between these two teams this year Montour outshot North Hills by a good margin nut the North Hills goalie played out of his mind. Made two of the best saves I have seen all year. The goalie was the difference. Nobody will beat NH if their goalie plays as well as he did in that game. And if any team can shut down NH top player two players they have a good chance of beating them. But that may be a tall task as those two have great scoring ability. 
 

Quaker Valley is good but not that deep. Goaltender is outstanding, and as I said previously a great goalie can win any game if they are on. 
 

McDowell is a good team, only have seen them once though. And they were dominated by Montour. 

I haven’t seen any of the games in the other A division, so I don’t have any idea how good they are. I plan on seeing a Fox Chapel game soon. 
 

In AAA I think it is anyone’s game here in the East. I have seen Peter’s, North Allegheny Seneca Valley, Mt. Lebanon, Central Catholic and Pine Richland play. Everyone of the games I have seen have been extremely close. I don’t think there is a clear choice for a winner. 
 

Haven’t seen enough AA games to make an observation.

Class A is going to be very good with Fox Chapel being the favorite and any one of a half dozen schools having a chance

How many teams have locked up playoff spots at this point?  When do playoffs start for PIHL? Looks like D-2 Gold top four are locked.  Burrell can still catch Neshannock but it would be tough.  D-2 Blue 1st is locked up with Ringgold.  Connellsville seems to have 2nd under control. The other 2 spots have 3 serious contenders.  Which team will be left out?  EF, Carrick or Morgantown.  Should be an interesting final month.
