I heard that the coach for the 16u Predators that is currently ranked 10th in the country left this past week to take a job with Pens Elite. Any truth to this rumor?

He is no longer listed as a coach on the Predators website.

We heard Coach Coleman accepted Pens 18u AAA coaching position for next year, it was announced (not clear on those specifics), Preds leadership told him he was done.

Seems pretty 💩 given that the Preds 09 team is expected to disband due to players leaving for higher opportunities next year.

From the outside, it appears Coleman was securing a position for himself. Coaches move on so the mid-season removal is an interesting choice.

Kool Aid

All those promises he made were BS

And kids who play High School that dont play 10 games will be ineligible for the playoffs

What promises were made and how do you know anything  about them?

I know a lot of people who share information

All those kids are going to the NHL ?

I cant wait to see how many follow him to the big Kool Aid Factory and see who he cuts from the current Pens Elite 16U ?

The drama of it is worth it and has been going on for years

So what were the promises you claim he made to them? Are you claiming he told these kids that they were going to the NHL? I highly doubt that. And we all know that “shared” information is often incorrect or at the very least ill informed.

Just like in the past, unless you speak to people on both sides and know facts, you should probably keep your opinion to yourself.

You are a very knowledgeable about youth hockey,  but should stick to presenting facts and information instead of sharing stories from one side of a story.

If you are playing on a Top 10 team, high school hockey is not part of the equation.  You wouldn’t know though!

Top 10 ? That team  will have a tough time making it out of districts without their coach who fled for greener $$$ pastures of Kool Aid in the middle of the season ?

I wouldn't blame those kids for going back to  their HS teams and AA Midget who are HS Friendly

And kids who play High School that dont play 10 games will be ineligible for the HS playoffs ............NO Malones Bartkowskis Zeilers Umbergers Mooneys Souths Laffertys even Gergachs  on that roster and those guys ALL played HS

How many of those kids are going past ACHA  ?  If so Where ? USHL ? OHL ? NCAA D III ? D1? Or straight to NHL?

We went to National Semis in Green Bay and lost to Mike Richters Prep School nephew and never missed a High School Game with excellent Midget AA Program .......we enjoyed winning Penguins Cups + Districts and a fun College Experience because I do know and have watched this BS for years and SAVED lots of Money

You think players that have been playing against teams like SSM, BK, Jr sabres, honey baked, Culver, should go back and play against Baldwin, Westmont, Richland?

80 games leads to injury and burnout with 6 game weekends Thursday thru Monday  Please read my plan and then comment

I’ve come up with a plan I would like to talk to you about which will change high school hockey going forward.

This nonsense of players missing high school games is coming to an end.

It will strengthen amateur 16 U and 18 U programs and people who are high school friendly throughout the league and have high school coaches refer players to high school friendly to build very good 16 u and 18 u teams that play a reasonable number of games and quality tournaments and play a maximum of 5 games Friday through Sunday (Monday if holiday)

Those programs who choose not to participate will not be a part of the referral program and high school players and their parents will be welcome to choose where they play.

FORMER HOSTAGES Quotes !

Former Player from PENS Elite AAA

This is from former pens elite AAA player Travel teams/seasons are overplayed - usually contributing to 80 game seasons which contributes to burn out , injury , and low quality exposure and development exposure and development

HS COACH - Former Player from PENS Elite AAA and NCAA D1

It's a mess, Jeff. We play 14 of our 20 games on Thursdays when guys are often traveling for amateur. If not Thursday, it's Monday when they're coming off a long travel weekend filled with games.

I've never seen so many injuries as we've had this year...just too much hockey in a condensed time frame. IMO we need to do a split season ASAP. HS hockey were my fondest memories even playing D1 and The PPE kids and other amateur guys should be able to play. Pens Elite Player wants to, his coach won't allow him to. Total shit show. 20 games over 5 months...ridiculous.

That’s a great story. But, you are out of touch with how top tier youth hockey and advancement to real juniors and NCAA works these days. USAHockey is even working against you now. They are planning a a nationwide 17u league for the best teams in the country to compete in, and be recruited from.

I don’t know if players in that Preds team will advance to higher levels, but they are No. 10 in the country, and playing against the best in North America. So, I’m sure that’s the aspiration.  If so, high school hockey is unfortunately in the rearview. Some will regret it, some won’t.

I wish things could go back to the way you describe, but the reality is the path of the tremendous players you mentioned no longer exists.  You conveniently skipped mentioning a whole generation of more recent local players that are playing juniors, NCAA, and Pro that left high school hockey behind.

At the end of the day HS hockey here just isn't a high level. I agree that most local players should play as it's nice to represent your school and it's good socially, but for the highest level players it's a waste of time. All it's going to do is lead to bad habits developing

Playing Highschool hockey is usually one of the best experiences players have in there careers .  AAA and AA highschool is pretty competitive and I have seen players come back from playing in the NAHL and  other high levels and be good but not dominant. Single "A" and lower highschool hockey is pretty bad.  Just not enough player depth.

AAA travel teams should allow their players to play highschool.  AAA travel teams in the top 20 are pretty deep and legitimate.  Players on these teams at the Midget(16,18u) have a legitimate shot  moving on to play a higher level.  Most NAHL and USHL players are ages 18-20.  It can be a very long and crazy process.  What is the end game?  To play D1? D3 can not even give athletic scholarships. Only a few D1 hockey players will get a full ride.

If it is the kids dream to play D1and that is what they want to do that is great.  You just have to ask what is the end game and how old do you want to be when finishing college.  College at the D1 level is even a bigger grind and very competitive.  It is a very large time  commitment.  Typically 20hrs a week plus travel,....  Then always fighting for spots except for your top few.  If that is the dream and they really want to achieve it let them go for it. It is just typically a lot of time and money to get there even when you have the talent.  You also have to be able to handle all the ups and downs mentally.

Wanna be AAA travel teams that are not in the top 30 should definitely let their players play highschool.   It is ridiculous the BS that they pitch kids and tell them so they won't play highschool with their buddies.

Kids are in a tight spot.  Most would love to play highschool but teams like Pens Elite won't let them even though they let many player play a few years ago.  Now, some other travel organizations also try to keep players from playing highschool.  It is a shame for most players not to have the opportunity to play highschool in my opinion.  At the end of the day for the vast majority it will be about memories and fun.

I do believe the 16u Preds let their players play when there is not a conflict which is better the some other organizations.

They are ,missing games for practices

Where is Pens coach headed?  Dan Mayes?

I believe he will be coaching 16u from what I've heard, but then the question just goes down the line.

Dan isn't coaching 16U this year.  I'm not sure he did last year either.  He was coaching 16U and 18U at the same time for a season or two, but he has been the 18U coach solely for at least this season and maybe last.
