April 26Apr 26 Starting this year, any girl that lives 75 miles from their Tier2 Rink, can not play on that team, if the team wants to be Tier 2. For girls from State College/Altoona Area, there is no Girls Tier Program within 75 miles(at least in 16U and 19U) About a dozen or so of girls from that area played Tier 2 for teams last year and I am sure some are playing or might be playing this year. But, according to Mid Am, these girls now can not play Tier 2 hockey because there is no rink within 75 miles. I am not sure how this is helping girls hockey . I am told that there is a waiver that girls can apply for but no guarantees. This makes no sense as I am sure there are other girls in the state that play Tier 2 that don't live within 75 miles from a Tier 2 program. I am being told that the rule is the same for boys. Mid Am claims that the rule is so players don't jump from team to team and don't bring in a ringer from out of state. Girls and boys can jump from team now, so not sure how that helps. Girls in Pittsburgh can play for Mon Valley this year and Steel City next year, the only ones that can't are the ones from Altona/Johnstown, Bedford, etc.. This is taking opportunities away from girls. Definitely not helping to grow the game
