Wes
Does anyone know what group of kids composes the 16uAA Aviators? Last we heard a few years ago the org was almost out of existence (down to just a few teams and their rink shut down... then they moved to RMU(?), then last year we heard they were operating with kids from Erie. This season their rink is listed as Shadyside Academy. Just trying to figure out how they have enough talent to be grouped in 16uAA...? There is zero info on their website. There doesn't seem to be enough 16uAA talent in the area (see Viper Stars 16uAA folding), so I find it interesting this team can pop onto the radar in the AA preseason grouping. Personally I would have a hard time going to take my kids to a tryout at a team that has moved all over in the past few years. dazedandconfused
They really should change their name to the Nomads. On the PAHL website, they have placement games scheduled at LSC, SSA and the MARC. Their "AA" U16 team is their 03 team from last year which is based in the Erie area. This is just another example of why USA Hockey and their affiliates are so over-protective when handing out roster software. You have one guy, one crazy guy running around with the ability to create rosters for teams with no oversight from anyone else and with no home ice. Wes
Why does the PAHL permit this sort of thing to happen??
Seejay784
Exactly what sort of thing, and who is it hurting?

Wouldn't it seem logical that the PAHL should want a stable organization with an actual home rink? If parents from Erie want to drive down to Pittsburgh to play hockey I could care less. But an org without a true home seems risky. Secondly, if you go look at the Aviators web site there isn't a whole lot of info about the teams or org there either. aaaahockey
Risky for whom? They have to find ice time to rent just like organizations "with a home". Not sure who is taking the risk or why it matters if they spread out across several rinks? If there were risk involved it seems to be for the individual players who chose to play there not for PAHL. PuckHead7
The Aviator are run by a dad and his few friends. They keep it alive so that they can do whatever they want to do. Mainly for their own kids! It doesn’t matter what’s best for the team(s) or anyone else. They constantly sandbag at local tournaments. Whether they enter into a lower bracket then they should be or they bring in AAA friends of theirs it’s too much rostering power for one person. On another thread, there is talk about Butler Valley and their board antics. What about the aviators? I assume that they’re nonprofit. Can anyone request their board minutes? Why does PAHL let them run around playing at several different rinks without a home. How many teams do they have this year?

How many teams do they have this year? that program fielded AA players in a pee wee major white playoffs two years ago. saw same coaches last year and it was same group. predators tried to protest but nothing happened there. they also sandbag tournaments too as you said. not sure how people like this can continue to run youth hockey program.
