What is up with the 07 birthyear?

Recommended Posts

I know tryouts will not be happening soon, but I figured it's just as good of time as any to look through the options. And while doing that I am a little puzzled with options for the 07 players.

It seems that the Vengance have a team for every birth year except 07.

Esmark also does not have an 07 birth year team. But yet they had an 06 team last year.

It just seems there are a lot less options overall for this birth year.

Esmark only had midget last year (15-16-18’) anything younger would have been viper-stars thing.

Just like the 2002's were a low birthyear, and all the Chinese Corona cancellations are hurting recruitment and filling college teams (probably jr teams too).

Wonder what Yuri will do if he can’t bring  kids from belarus over

He will find kids from Europe, Always does. $

Esmark will recruit (which is fine) and load up their team and then let kids go on 12/31 when replacing them with fresh bodies...

My son played there for two years, I never saw it happen. Yes I’ve seen euro kids come in half way through the season but someone would quit, that’s the spot they would get. Don’t get me wrong, there is A LOT of money made on the euro players. There are plenty of bad things that can be said about yuri and even esmark, your comment is just a baseless. To my knowledge there has only been one kid over the part 8 years cut at the deadline, there is more to that story than whatever rumors you may have heard. Slam them for the things that are real. Not bs. if you want to say they only showcase certain players for certain reasons, yes. Kids taking lessons from yuri get more ice time, yes. The rink is in a crime / drug infested area, yes. With travel esmark is by far the most expensive club to play for, yes. Their off ice program is a joke, yes. Hope this helps with your bashing.

Not really.  I don't like that org at all.  Wouldn't spend any $$ with them.  To each their own.

The Vengeance will have an 07 team this year.

Esmark usually doesn’t work til Midgets.  The exception was the 03 team which left the Renegades for Esmark at some point.  Was it Bantams?

I'm guessing then that the Vengance with just be the SCIR team that played independent this year. Funny that they did not play in PAHL, but were Tier 2.
Would have been nice to see them and SHAHA  face off against each other.

What’s the big deal the scir team didn’t play Pahl but stayed tier 2 ? At tier 2 leagues don’t really matter, nobody is scouting tier 2. Maybe they didn’t want to deal with Pahl rules such as the fair play point (I heard now they have a double minus for fpp ?) the fair play point, in my opinion teaches the kids to be less aggressive, now they added a second threshold per game for penalty minutes ?

I visited the Esmark website yesterday (yes, I'm that bored). There is a "State of the Union" message from them, a video message. One of the interesting things I found was that they are claiming that they will have at the 06, 07 and 08 BY's. To begin with, they don't even have tryout dates listed for 07 or 08 nor do they have coaches listed for any of them including 06.

Do they just throw as much shit as possible against the wall and see what will stick?

I don’t think anyone has tryout dates, I wouldn’t expect any posted right now. What rinks will come back up before August ? Will things be lifted by then ? To answer your esmark question, yes they toss everything at the wall and see what sticks. It’s normally just the midget teams.

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate specific dates. They don't have an actual tryout listed for 07 and 08. They do for 18, 16, 15 and 14. They'll be fine at 18, but this year may be a tough one for Yuri. The 04's are spread out everywhere and 15's, they're spread out even more. If they have a 15 team, it will be BAD.

Never happen. Those kids will scatter around to other PAHL teams. They'll get 5-6 that are willing to make that drive. This will be the recipe.

6 former PPE Black players

A couple of Viper 08's plus 2-3 other PAHL AA players

Mix in some A players to fill the roster

Pluck a random guy off the Coaching tree

Mix them all together and you have a "AAA" team that plays a maximum of 10 games on PIA ice, costs $4500 plus 12 weekends on the road.

That's the Esmark model. What a value.

I heard from a PAHL organization president the other evening and he said that depending on the physical rink situation (did they take the ice out) and the way the state government allows businesses to open up they are "tentatively" hoping to have tryouts in late May.  I don't know how realistic that plan will be, but that is just what I was told.

Who knows if teams will be able to have imports from Russia as Yuri has? Not sure when and if the borders will open and if visas will even be granted.

Pennsylvania’s website has detailed their multi staged re-opening strategy. There are red, yellow and green designations to represent the different levels of “reopening”.

It seems as if an ice rink being able to open to the public would only fall under its respective county being designated under the green section, per the criteria.

Currently there are some north-central counties that PA is eyeing to move to yellow. Yellow still being pretty restricting in terms of what businesses can be open. Looking at the criteria for yellow, it’s safe to say an ice rink in a designated “yellow county” will not be open. Based upon the rate at which things are moving. Expectations for Allegheny County, and Western PA in general to have open ice rinks by the end of May aren’t reasonable. I don’t think Western PA is going to move through the tiered reopening stage in 4 weeks time. Red, to yellow, to green.

For those wondering. The entire state is still in red. Whatever counties move down to yellow will be subject to:

  • Indoor Recreation, Health and Wellness Facilities (such as gyms, spas), and all Entertainment (such as casinos, theaters) Remain Closed

Again, 4 weeks to go from Red to all clear just isn’t realistic.
