Huskies and Preds 18U #$%@ Show

Recommended Posts

I’m surprised there weren’t any ejections. I’m sure if someone wanted to up the ante they could send it in to pahl for review.  Started off kinda innocuous enough.

Personally I think you take the cages off these kids and they stop becoming “Superman” but of course I’m in a minority.

That's a terrible idea.

It’d be an interesting experience. Players have no respect with each other out there now. No control of their sticks, their hands and elbows when they hit etc. watch any game.  Like I said, I’m in a minority and due to insurance it’s never be allowed to happen. But remember, even youth hockey didn’t have masks pre-80’s in most areas. They survived.

There's a constant discussion, only slightly serious, about eliminating face masks in the NFL in the interest of reducing the severity of impacts. You want to talk about a bad idea - that's it. But the concept has some merit, at least, in terms of fostering discussion.

Listening to the parents yell at each other in that video, I can't help but think that I'm not surprised at the behavior of the players.

Fight happens with 2:15 left in the third if anyone wants to get right to it.

Gotta love the group of squirts in the corner waiting to take the ice watching this unfold. Preds player takes a run at Huskies player with a 5-2 lead in the 3rd. Classy stuff right there.

I don't have a dog in this fight (pun intended) but after watching this, then watching the 2nd period to solidify my thoughts, the officiating during this game was unbelievably terrible. Not to defend the parent/coach/player that you can clearly hear berating the ref for allowing this to go on, but holy hell the ref had ZERO control over this game. He was just out there getting his laps in.

I heard we are operating at 60% of last year from a numbers standpoint for officials. Fortunate to even have 2 guys show up so the game can happen. Although considering this thread and the behavior of the players parents and coaches involved in this game I wouldn't blame any zebras for not showing up.

IT was short, at least. Got to love the mouth on whoever that was in the stands. LOL.

Doesn't look like it was a particularly good game, either, from the bit I watched.

As I viewed the film, clearly the LiveBarn camera is on the side of the player benches so I would assume the voices are those coming from coaches and players?

They are probably looking for volunteers to wear the stripes if you’re interested

My God am I tired of this being an excuse.  Refs make mistakes. I get it. Arguing off sides and minor penalties is absolutely stupid at any youth level and coaches, players and spectators should be dealt with accordingly.

This though just set a bad precedent all the way around. I’m absolutely not absolving the behavior of the players, coaches and fans. But once you let it slide it just reinforces that it’s not that bad to do. Personally I don’t think the officials are nearly strict enough around here.

My God, you're right. I guess I heard that guy repeatedly yell "Shut the F up, b!" enough times to assume it was the parents we were hearing.

Now that's a classy coaching staff.

I am 99% sure the ones you can hear clearly are players in the box or, yapping at each other from the benches. Just judging on their tone of voice and choice of words. Sounds like a 17 year old hockey player to me haha

It's funny that, though I watched the video of that moment a few times, I didn't notice that the camera was looking at the stands. I just heard the yapping and my mind went the other way.

Hockey should be like every other sport.  If you throw a punch you will be escorted off the ice/playing surface.  Why should hockey be different? Should PIHL/PAHL review the video?

Personally I would say no, for player suspension.  However, I do think they should review the referee call/no call.

Watched the 2nd and 3rd periods.  Video kept cutting out.  Do you guys posted scoresheets in the west?  Would like to see what they called at the end.

Looks like they restarted with 5-4 man advantage for the dark team.  That looks right.

Honestly, in a 2 man system,  as long as they got the board/check from behind which started the scrum, I would be OK with it.  The officials seemed to get in pretty quickly and protected the guys down on the ice.  They can't see who else did what.  Looks like they put everybody on the ice in the box with at least roughing calls.  Not sure what else you can expect them to do with only 2 guys.

All 10 skaters got 2 minutes each for roughing.  The Preds kid who started it got an extra 2.  How that hit from behind wasn't a 2 & 10 I have no idea.

In over 1,000 youth hockey games, that was easily the worst officiated game that I've ever watched.

This game started off bad and got worse.

14:02 First period.  Preds kneeing a Huskie, NO CALL

9:05 (roughly) First period. Preds player #17 hitting a Huskie kid to the head and and then skating a loop and taking a blindside cheap shot on #61.  The kid leaves his one skate, pulls up his shoulder and hits #61 in the head.  NO CALL.  That's a suspension in the NHL.  Why is that NOTHING in youth hockey??

I could go on and on but the officiating was AWFUL and the one ref called 90% of the penalties.

At one point in the second it was 42 PIM for Huskies and 2 for Preds.  Ended 72 PIM Huskies 20 for Preds.

FYI the Huskies have been over 16 PIM only a few times all season, never north of 20 PIM.  So how one team goes from averaging 10 PIM a game to 72 PIM you'd need to ask that referee crew.

I just watched it. That was hardly taking a run at someone.  He was hardly skating. Obviously I know nothing of went on before this, the kid that got bumped was looking to be offended.
