  1. Does anyone else know anything about this? In the Post-Gazette today, it says that Robert Morris is seeking "$10 million to for construction of a new 100,000-square-foot hockey facility with two sheets of ice, seating for 2,500 fans, at least four team locker rooms, concession stands, restrooms, office space for the college’s hockey programs, and additional parking."

I also found this which visually suggests it could tie into the current facility - perhaps replacing the two outdoor sheets of ice:

  2. I agree with Murry Gunty that emphasizing covering the “spread” and not winning is the wrong motivator.  Covering the spread shifts the focus away from sound team defense and team play.

There should be nothing wrong with beating a 'lesser' team 3-0.  We all know that a hot goalie can change the dynamics of a game.

Teams also might play the team down the road rather than travel to who knows where for the sake of their MHR.

A final thought, and I really haven't  thought this though, but can you imagine what the NHL or NCAA would be like if they were based on MHR and not team standings?

I know Rebellion will be practicing this week. If anyone is in the rink could you take a picture and post here?

Is Black Bear planning on any other improvements besides the new sheet? More locker rooms? More stands? There's a lot of unused rooms/space underneath Bubbas and underneath the gym.

As of Sunday, lights were still off in 2nd rink as the concrete cures.

From what I have heard, there will be eight locker rooms in hallway, as the rental shop is going to move.

UPMC is taking over gym and I have heard they might be taking over space under the gym.

As for space under Bubbas, Shane Clifford is there now.  The Rebellion have a space for a large team meeting room and Peters Township is getting their own locker room (although I am not quite sure where that is going).

Either way, exciting times for Printscape and the Rebellion.

South Pittsburgh Rebellion joining AHF for the 2023-24 season.

So Black Bear affiliated organizations in the area:

    Badgers - AHF
    Rebellion - AHF
    Esmark - THF
    Preds - THF
    Yetis - THF

    Am I missing any?

The Rebellion 14U girls team was part of the TGHF last year.  The 2009BY team is now affiliated with the AHF.

I have two kids playing with the Rebellion.  Great organization.

Thanks for the transparency. It makes sense, especially with how some AAA teams have flopped organizations in recent years. The entire '08 AAA Lebo team moved to SHAHA last year for example. Printscape could be a decent landing spot for some teams.

But just so we're clear, the Tier 1 part of the advertisement wasn't in reference to Esmark now using ice at Printscape?

That's what he said.  AAA Rebllion teams.  There is limited ice in the South Hills.  AAA teams are always searching for more ice.  And yes, it would be akin to the '08 AAA Lebo team.

North has Alpha, the Frozen Pond Lemieux, Baeirl and Shadyside.  That is 9 sheets.  Also, there is also PIA and the Belmont if you consider them North.

My intent was not to start a North vs South discussion.  It was to point out the volume of hockey played in the South Hills...

    But since you started it...

    1) Lemiuex is not used by a PAHL team.

    2)  Alpha is 22 miles from Baierl.  Do people in Harmar even consider themselves in the North Hills?

    3)  All four rinks in the South Hills are within 12 miles, with three of them very close to each other.

    4)  I like the North Hills and the South Hills and Pittsburgh in general...

heard this for almost a year and a half now, if its the guy I think thats behind it. he will pull the trigger on this deal, only down fall visits in a terrible location area

And he has spent that time working on the project.  He has the attitude of, "If I build it, they will come."

  8. There are four rinks with four sizeable hockey programs in the South Hills.  And that is excluding South Park and Rostraver.  Between those four rinks, there are five sheets of ice (soon to be six), all of which are booked solid pretty much year round.  My count is that there are twenty-five mite teams between the four hockey programs.  SHAHA is bursting at its seams.  The Rebellion have seven of those mite teams and will soon be one of the biggest programs in PAHL.  You are underestimating the volume of hockey that is played in the South Hills.

The area around Printscape has grown considerably in population in the last 20 years, and the need for a second sheet is evident.  The Rebellion rent out ice in Wheeling.  On top of that, plans have been developed to build a massive complex in Ringgold.  And that is not a rumor.  The gentleman behind the complex already owns hockey assets in the region.

Wow, that is something new. Anyone on the board with the Badgers know what this is about?

It's interesting they list the Badgers and the Youth Phantoms, but not the Rebellion or Vipers. All four play in Black Bear rinks.

Back to what started this thread, did the Allegheny Badgers give full control of their club to Black Bear as the Black Bear website seems to indicate?
