If you make that call on that play in a state championship, you deserve criticism. Officials in a game of that level should be experienced enough to use discretion. They delivered the ultimate consequence on an act that had no effect on a player or the game. Heck, I’ll willing to bet everyone in attendance was dumbfounded, and if no call was made at all there would have been no real complaint.

So the responsibility is on the officials and not the player.... got it.

I have nothing to do with TJ and the soft call ruined a very good hockey game between two very good championship teams. It happened in the past and the officials can do better. TJ was the benefactor of poor officiating in the 2022 Penguins Cup with Franklin, which was a disgraceful display of poor officiating.

This is the problem with having score sheets, the parents have to ruin it once again. Goalie parents are the WORST by far and most of them don't know what a REAL shit on goal is and want everything thrown near their kid listed as a shot. They yell at the coaches, refs and score keepers if their kids don't get their assist or shots right. I know parents that have actually called and Emailed the teams, leagues and companies running a tournament because they keep their own stats and even send video clips of their kids not getting a 2nd assist or a shot went off their kid and someone else got the goal. Parents ruin everything in youth sports.

Last year at MidAms, a parent emailed an official livebarn clips from a game. Not about missed penalties, but about assists that were not given and that their player would not be able to choose the prep school of their choice because of this.

    You have 20 posts.

That website appears to have been updated with far more data than it's ever had and most looks to have been added in well...... the last 30 days.

Maybe that's a testament to this site for people have been pleading for this for years.

I meant I did not know the Mid-Am Official’s site existed until today.

I’m glad there is a dedicated site now, although I wouldn’t give credit to this forum.

Why not supply that information to the original poster over the last 3 weeks?

I don’t live on this forum nor even knew this existed. Did you not think to click around the website for 30 seconds to find this link?

The desire to have better officiating in my belief is shared across many groups and that includes the Referees themselves and the scheduling partners. Despite what many believe, it's hard to imagine that anyone actually chooses to be screamed at by making bad calls intentionally.

However, this latest discussion highlights where the real issue lies. Who can help when there is a legitimate problem with specific individuals. The answer should be simple right? The affiliate governing body, or in our case the MidAm District.

Here is the website for the MidAm district which has no less than 46 current positions. That's right 46. And they include 9 separate DEI positions. 9 of them.

    https://www.midamhockey.com/page/show/5022993-board-contacts

How many people are there to deal with any referee issues? One. That's right, one person for six states but yet some states need multiple DEI personnel? That's basically saying that on any given weekend there is a 9 times more likely chance that there will be a DEI issue as opposed to an officiating issue? Give us a break.

You want better officiating? Look no further than this group and when the Annual District meeting happens this spring, tell your association President to speak up on matters such as these.

Lots of speculation about the cost for Duq and IUP. I will ask some players what they pay for a solid answer.

I wouldn’t say that RMU is a better education either. Chatham is a good school academically. There could be.a million reasons for a transfer. Don’t think quality of education has much to do with this transfer.

Couple years ago looks like it was ~$3000 for D1/D3.

The ACHA hype machine needs to take a step back and stay in its lane. All the social media, new jerseys, and arenas talk have people believing its something more.

Promotion is huge for club sports in general to drive revenue to keep costs low for players that pay to play on top of tuition... Although the caliber isn't the same, club hockey can offer things NCAA doesn't. If the nobody bought into the "hype", then it would've died out. Must just be a sensitive topic for you.

As far as Center Ice aka Palmer Imaging Arena, even though my son played AA there for multiple years roughly 2012-2020, we would very often routinely get "reverse homered" by the refs and pretty much always be on the short end of the stick in terms of power plays.  And our teams were skill based, not goon based AA teams like other teams in that timeframe.

So I will disagree that during that timeframe at that level home teams had the advantage, because we were constantly on the short end at home there.

So for ~8 years you were "reverse homered" but at a few other rinks the home team got the calls. If your rosters stayed somewhat consistent over the years I'm seeing a common denominator...

I would hazard that it would be really hard to do this, considering how different all the teams operate. Scores, schedules and games aren't reliably reported anywhere, either.

ACHA Division 2 uses a computer ranking system, which I'm assuming MHR is just a different version of this? Home team is responsible for entering in scoresheet info after the game.

Please explain what you mean by that!  Isn't Hockey, Hockey no matter what level you play at? I'm just trying to understand what you mean by that!  Isn't the same thing happening throughout the country or do you think it's just a Western PA thing?  Shattuck St Marys now has 2 18UAAA teams!  Where should the kids on the 2nd team go?  Maybe they should stop playing so they don't pollute the AAA Hockey scene!

Are the numbers of players in Western PA on the decline?  I just don't understand your negativity!

To be fair the second team as SSM technically plays in the high school division for USAH purposes, not AAA (whether right or wrong)

There are more than capable ones who have not skated for PIHO for whatever reasons, so no one needs to worry about this. And, if you ask, some may say that the ones who have skated these in the past are not necessarily capable!

Seems like the teams/leagues had a different opinion but like I said, time will tell!

Yep. No matter what organization schedules its going to be the same guys, its funny people think their is a hidden pool of capable officials.

While true a chunk of officials may opt out of skating these games. Plenty of officials to skate these games but will it be the capable ones? Time will tell.

Alpha is getting mad because they spent all that money on a facelift with private locker rooms and 10 x10 foot private gym in a box for their "Elite" teams and the only team that gave them a foot to stand on got blown up. They have no draw anymore so they have to control anything and everything they can.

Or they didn't get the contract to schedule the entire PIHL

Wonder what happened. From the outside seems like Alpha told them they couldn't have ice if they didn't let them schedule the refs.

Most of the ole' boys have retired and a large portion of local officials weren't skating the last time WPHOA scheduled games 8 years ago. Also, you will see the same officials skating the past 8 seasons and the same person scheduling PIHL games the past 14 seasons no matter what the organization is named.  There are too many games and not enogh officials. Last season there were many gmaes that were two-man system done with one person and 3-man done by two officials, not to mention a few games had to be canceled because no officials were available.

The officials are curious themselves to what is going on and there are a ton of rumors spreading but nothing confirmed, so I'll list some if anyone can confirm.

    1. PIHL president approached former WPHOA board member(s) at Keystoen State Games multiple times over the weekend and informed them that PIHL wants to work with WPHOA to schedule their games if they can get the orgaization started again. Also, the PHIL rejected proposals from 4 active scheduling organizations for one reason or another??

    2. North Pittsburgh approached WPHOA and they will be scheduling games for that orgaization this season??

    3. College leagues may use WPHOA or do their own scheduling system and PITT may use local guys but scheduled through their league's organization??

As of now, all other PIHO organizations have found new schedulers...Westmoreland, Allegheny, Huskies, PGH Vipers, and Esmark using ATC schedulars, Pens Elite using UPMC scheduler.

Anyone heard about the teams at alpha? I heard rumors they will only use the official's scheduling group based out of there.
