Is your employer someone special who knows the Governor and Health Secretary?  We only thought people were mad about these restrictions.  It will be a lot worse if it continues!

I work for a company that has several contracts with the state for IT support.   We have 16 full time employees dedicated to these contacts.  Said staff was required to work from home as part of restrictions in place and contact wording thru 1/4/21.  Our HR staff reached out to the state for guidance regarding said staff members returning to work and was told the following:

”while no changes to current restrictions as set to expire on January 4, 2021 have been announced, novel coronavirus transmission remains in the substantial range in the southwestern part of the state, coupled with an anticipated post holiday case surge, it is ANTICIPATED that some or all of the restrictions will be maintained.  Staff involved with activities set forth in said contracts should continue to telecommute until your organization is advised otherwise”

Feel really bad for my kid and his buddies who all are beginning to realize that their JV hockey season in done

As I have said elsewhere our governor will claim they are working (lower cases statewide recently) and extend them. At the same time California has increasingly rising cases and announced they would extend.  Extensions coming no matter what happens because SCIENCE!

Unfortunately I was told today by my employer to anticipate an extension of the current restrictions in anticipation of a post holiday surge

I am trying to be extremely optimistic about Jan 4th, but I can't help but feel like our kids wont play until middle of February at the earliest. Sure the cases may go down from now until the 4th, but you can bet on them rising again around the 10th of January (approx 2 weeks after Christmas) when people really start noticing symptoms.

My pessimism for this has resulted in me purchasing synthetic ice for my basement. Not a very big area, but at least it keeps my kid skating a bit and shooting. I can't take another 3-4 months of him being depressed about not playing.

Had our monthly meeting/call last night for our school program.  Our AD noted that he will be recommending that our district pause all sports until  at least January 18th rather than the 4th at a school board meeting next week.

I’m beginning to think that even 1/18 is optimistic

This is not true.  They are requiring contact information for contact tracing purposes only.
Locker room availability is based on the arena policy.  Some allow and some don’t currently.  I expect this to relax more now that rinks are legally allowed to be open.

Full text of the guidelines are here

My source who is a coach shared his organizations rules for season.   He has NO reason to exaggerate stipulations under which they have to operate

The recent EO confirms what he told me

Remember this is a state where the governor shut down non essential parts of Walmart’s

With players wearing MASKS on the ice - They are going to have a hard time getting teams to come play in MI with this stipulation...fro MAYA website (https://www.maha.org/news_article/show/1121369

Need to do a bit of research.  MAHA is requiring Covid info from any area that a team desires to play in out of state. (Tournament, scrimmage, league play).

Appears that out of staters aren’t welcome In Michigan either

No locker rooms, must arrive at rink dressed and depart once game completed.

Concession  sales also prohibited by EO

  7. My oldest son spoke to a guy he played hockey with in college who lives in the Detroit area and who proves some coaching support at a MAHA program.   Info released today, lots of ambiguity.  He told my son that it appears that travel for tournaments, games, and scrimmages will be scrutinized, both for home and visiting teams

  8. Just spoke to a business contact who has two boys that play school hockey exclusively.  He told me his organization will be having an emergency meeting on Thursday evening to present various options to the families on how to proceed given the new guidelines  He indicated that the organization has asked families to notify their board president on their intentions for the upcoming season, stay or walk.

He indicated that the term “economically unsustainable” has been used to describe the current situation, and it is quite possible that the season for all teams will be tabled as they believe nothing will change on 1/1/21 and it is quite likely that JV and middle school hockey will likely get shut down if the anticipated fall surge of virus cases comes to fruition.

Horrible situation, might likely mean the end of school hockey for many programs

Not sure I understand that logic if the school is playing other sports! Sounds like a law suit to me.  School is school whether it is online or in person. I'm not saying it's the same education but the days are counting the same.

Because they can’t validate student is meeting attendance requirements  This district has paused club activities: hockey is NOT governed  under PIAA,  In some districts it is a CLUB others as a non school sanctioned function

as a former PIHL registrar, I will share that there are  very specific rules regarding  rosters (to ensure players are actually eligible) And the principal or his/her designee is attesting to the player attending classes (whether virtually or physically) in their district and meets eligibility requirements as designated by their district to participate when they sign off on the roster

  10. I can’t speak for PPE but I have heard that the organization all three of my boys played with at some point in their youth hockey tenure has told families that they will not be sanctioning any out of town tourneys for the foreseeeable future.

Not sure if it’s an organizational directive or PAHL leadership driven directive

Just keep in mind that when schools open there will be more cases, which leads to more community spread. That community spread will infiltrate every active aspect of society. That includes youth sports. Other viruses will also be present in the fall that will further complicate things. Then all these viruses will further spread in the community. This is the main reason that the state health department doesn't want sports to happen until 2021. I don't necessarily wish that sports be postponed until 2021, but I would prefer a pause until, at least, October. I could see having practices involving individual skills & conditioning until then, but no contact. I would like to allow the return-to-school process settle in a little prior to throwing sports into the mix.

Another bump in cases is expected in mid to late September (Labor Day holiday plus the opening of schools)

As a parent I want my kids back at school, I also want each of them to have opportunity to participate in the sport they love, but I also recognize that it may not be possible for the the two to co-exist for the short term

Agree that a pause In competition until October or November may be allow for successful mitigation efforts

  12. Despite being accused of being someone else’s Alt, i will stand by my assertion that fall sports either gets shut down before it starts, or it all gets shut down once an outbreak occurs directly attributable to football
Wolfie and Levine aint gonna let it happen

  13. Heard from a coworker with a kid in a school program that is chartered as a “club sport” that their athletic director was asked to weigh in regarding what would happen if in person instruction is put on hold in August/September in regards to club sports.

They were strongly advised not to register for any preseason tourney, and told  that if return was delayed....all extracurriculars would be shut down.

I’m seeing Danner being right on this one

  14. So, given the situation with MLB, specifically the Marlins, what’s everyone’s thoughts on school hockey.   Do we see it in the fall or is it going to be a casualty of a Dept of Health directive in that it gets lumped in with fall sports and doesn’t happen?
