What a glorious morning! Happy to see this thread is back to beating the dead horse?

The back up goalie went 7-3 against the crap teams. No way to predict how he would have done against good teams.  Actually 3 losses against playoff teams, so there ya go

The hearing was not a full trial with both sides presenting all the evidence. It was emergency request for an injunction mere hours after the paper work was filled. I'm sure PIHL didn't have time to put together an actual case.  So anything the judge wrote was based on a very basic understanding of the case. The only thing he was asked to do in the short time he spent listening to to case and writing a verdict was decide if he should postpone the playoffs.

My dude lives in his teammate's bedroom, for maybe a total of 150 to 200 days. iE, the length of the hockey season.  His family doesn't live here or pay taxes or pay tuition.  It's not like the dad lost his job at the quarry and had to suddenly move here to work at the steel mill. He doesn't live here. What if instead of his teammates room he was staying at the Hampton Inn? They sent him here to play hockey.  He would never be here if not for hockey.

I'm not asking about loop holes in the rules or how the rules are technically written... I'm asking does it seem fair?  Or did this situation open the door for even worse incidents? Any 8th grader that wants to attend a better high school or play for a better team just has to go sleep at his friends house for the season.

Also good to see the lawyers and PIHL didn't completely empty the Montour coffers. They were still able to afford the JV playoffs. A "play in" game in the tier 3 loser bracket as a matter of fact.

Just to reiterate, the other goalie was 6-0 playing against the bottom 3 teams and 1-3 in his other four starts.  He had an .835 save percentage and gave up 9 goals in his two starts vs Wheeling Park, or about 30% of the goals they scored in 20 games.  Without the out of town goalie, they don’t sniff the playoffs.

I do find the "he would be eligible in football or basketball and those are more popular sports than hockey" argument hilarious. The fact that you read other leagues rules but neglected to read the PIHL rules is insane.

Can't wait for an NHL coach to sneak 11 guys on the ice and then argue it's not too many men because the NFL allows it.

If this kind of athlete addition were attempted within the WPIAL or PIAA, not only WOULD it be an issue, but there would be a highly publicized hearing.  They literally have it on record for everyone to see, with published documents showing which students have transferred and who has been approved or denied, and it’s also covered widely by local media.  Google “WPIAL eligibility hearing” and that will be abundantly clear.

The PIHL is so behind in this regard.  Why is the PIHL like this? Hopefully, whoever gets that Commissioner job will overhaul the system, including the placement into the different classes. The PIHL classifications were created at a time with much lower participation in hockey. Now, schools like QV (14 total skaters in grades 9-12) and Greensburg Salem (16 skaters in grades 9-12) compete with 4A and 5A (WPIAL) schools.  These bigger schools get rewarded for not developing a youth program. If they played in a classification with schools their size, they wouldn’t win half their games.  That’s why Montour, with more than 30 high school players, should be in AA, along with most of the schools listed below. The PIHL system is antiquated. High school enrollment of Playoff teams remaining in what the PIHL considers “A”:

    McDowell: 2,194

    Norwin: ~1,600

    Fox Chapel: 1,317

    North Hills: ~1,300

    Shaler: ~1,200

    Kiski: ~1,200

    Greensburg Salem: 820

    QV: 623

McDowell has 300 more kids in 9-12 than QV has in K-12.

Coach quits in the newspaper. He cheated,  kids were the ones impacted , he walks away. What a low life. I’m sure montour wil. Try to spin this into a we were innocent or targeted. Meanwhile, they cheated by not having any paperwork. Funny how none of the montour accounts on here have any proof. That coach should be embarrassed for how he used that district.

Meet and discuss what exactly? You guys got caught cheating 3 times this season, the last one just happen to cost your Seniors their last chance at a Penguins cup. You want to change people's minds about your organization then BLAME THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR ORGANIZATION AND LET THESE THINGS HAPPEN.

BB should get an award for doing the RIGHT THING.

Not sure how this situation benefited QV. They did beat Indiana, but if they had been the fifth seed, they would’ve played Kiski, who Indiana just beat last week. And now Quaker Valley has to go on the road and play Fox Chapel, rather than  play North Hills on the ice surface where Quaker Valley practices twice a week.

Yes, but what would be PIHL's angle? What or why could they possibly want to screw Montour out of playing in the playoffs? They really have no reason to DQ Montour unless they believe that the rules of their organization that all these teams play in weren't followed, and the only reason they would do that is to protect the other teams/kids that play in their organization from getting cheated somehow.

All this said I do feel bad for the kids at Montour. Adults ruining it for kids... Apparently, they have a strong team. Would they still have to of had to move up a division to AA if all the paperwork was correct and the kid was approved to play? Curious how they would have done playing all season up a division if they had to. If they wouldn't have had to and could have stayed at A with the kid on the team and the only issue here is the paperwork that wasn't properly done... then wow. Really feel bad for the kids.

With 8 seniors and 5 juniors and a AAA goalie, for sure would have been placed in AA.

How many times do you have to be told that Montour never filed the proper paperwork. Yes the kid was approved to play as a resident of Montour who wasn't a billet or transfer student. They lied from the beginning.

PIHL goes over all the paperwork AGAIN at the end of the season just to make sure everything is in order and it wasn't.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL THAT NO ONE SEEMS TO BE TAKING INTO ACCOUNT.  PLEASE READ…

This is 100% true.  Each team must submit a NEW roster before the start of playoffs.  If he was mistakenly allowed to play throughout the season, that paperwork (approved by the PIHL) cannot be challenged or changed.  BUT after the regular season ends, the roster has to be signed off again by the league for the playoffs.  This is why the argument “Avonworth held this in their back pocket” is somewhat misleading.  Maybe they knew about it but couldn’t do anything until/unless they saw that Montour was trying to include him in playoff roster (signed off by each school’s AD or Principal). By the way, that roster does not contain any place to list addresses of the players. It simply has the names, grade level, and school of each player and a spot for a signature “Playoff Roster Sign Off”.  Many many times in high school sports have there been teams ruled ineligible for playoffs for using an ineligible player throughout a regular season.

Kind of funny how Montour had the money for the Varsity, JV and Middle School teams to play in playoffs but when they attempt to sue they have to pull all of their teams because they don't have enough money.

Nothing like screwing over your other teams.  Obviously the board only cares about 1 team in that organization.

There would be no problem if Montour would just show PIHL the that the proper paperwork was filled out. The problem is they can't, because they never filed the proper paperwork.

Like Peter said, the playoffs will be over before there is even a date set to read this IF it even gets approved to be heard.

Case dismissed at first glance from a judge.  “Hi egg, my name is face.  Nice to meet…”. SPLAT!

Exactly the type of goober lunacy I’m talking about - “name me one billet in pihl”. Who actually knows all that information other than one of these parents that sits around and creates a database of every kid that their son plays against - his birth certificate up to and including his grades and god knows what else. WEIRDOS.

Not at all. If it was a common thing, naming just 1 similar situation, approved by PIHL, would be easy.  16 teams made playoffs in A alone.  You”d think if it was anything other than a total anomaly, it would be easy to find just 1 other similar situation.  But that’s the thing.  It isn’t.

Doesn’t Bishop McCort have billet kids on their team?

Yes, from Europe, and as a result had to move up from A to AA   Maybe Montour should have moved up to AAA instead of down to A

They’re billeting the kid for Esmark. Billets don’t grow on trees. There are some in that org billeting two players. The absolute goofiest talking point is that this kid was intentionally placed in Montour to be their goalie.

You’re just a bunch of whiners who couldn’t beat the kid, but were kaniving enough to wait it out and use it as a chess piece. You’re pathetic none the less.

Stop the whining and just go beat the kid. Same mindset for high school football when you’re up against a Catholic school that recruits. Bring it up in November or shut your hoe mouth and go score some goals. Absolute losers you are, and anyone who defends Montour kids losing out on a season. I hope their attorney sues so hard that Avonworth has to shut the street lights off to pay court fees

Name one other kid in PIHL who is billeting with a family and playing on the high school team.  You can’t, because there aren’t any, because it is against the rules.  The rules that every org knows all about both in writing and in Team Manager meetings.
If this was not a rule, it is true that not many high school teams would recruit kids to billet, although some would, but it also true that this scenario would inevitably take place just as it has unfolded in this case, where the Travel Team teammate (or their parents, talking to one another at AAA practice) suggest it: “hey, you should play on our high school team”.

Reply: “doesn’t your high school team have a goalie”.

    “Yes, but he sucks”.

“Oh, there aren’t any rules against that?”

“not sure, but we can check and find out”

both parties (Montour and those who turned them in) can be deemed to have acted “shady” or “not nice”, but only Montour  BROKE THE RULES

Do you know what cheating means? How does accidentally rostering an extra kid who didn’t even play in the game, and having an extra “coach” on the bench give montour a competitive advantage? You think you know what you’re talking about but you don’t. You can put “third” in bold all you want but get your facts right first.

Yes counting to 20 is pretty tough

Foreign players must have a F1 visa

They can only go to schools that have sevis papers from the government

So only private schools with the exception of Mount Lebanon has them

You can have 2 Foreign players on your roster and stay in the division you are currently in

You can have up to 4 players but you have to play AA or AAA

QV complains and cheats any chance they can

They have a kid from another school district that pays tuition

    About QV:

it is totally legal within PA to pay tuition to attend any public or private school.  Fact.  Like, most of the North Catholic roster!

  15. Sad thing is, if you watched Montour:

    played as a team

    moved the puck

pretty clean, not too many cheap penalties

balanced: 11 players with at least 5 goals, 10 with at least 10 points

Also, 8 seniors who have to end their high school careers this way bc adults knowingly tried to deceive the league.

    Sad, but a good lesson.
