Wonder if they got some AAA players or if it is mostly AA as what was showing up to the open skates

from what I heard it’s about half AA and one goalie AA and the other half AAA and the other goalie is from vengeance AAA

Yep, that would be my kid that got cut because we would not get on board with NC/ Excel. Logistically not feasible for our family but hey, as we were told they never cut kids for not doing Excel. 🤷🏻‍♀️ and to sweeten the experience the rest of the team knew by 5:30 who had made it but we had to reach out to the coach at 9:45 pm to get an answer. What. A. Joke.

Wow. So sorry that happened to your family. That’s terrible. Best of luck moving forward

Speaking of, how are the skates looking?

Heard the esmark skates have merged 2008 and 2009s together to make it look like more kids there. only about 12-20 kids total have shown up for each skate for u15 and u16 all combined. Doubt 2009s will be able to field a team unless some imported players come.  Allegheny will be 2008 and 2009 combined so no clue what that team will look like. Renegades seems to be keeping their team together for 2009 and had a good turnout. Heard vengeance skates were a bit of a mess

apparently not a lot of kids showing up for those open skates for 09 esmark

As far as Center Ice aka Palmer Imaging Arena, even though my son played AA there for multiple years roughly 2012-2020, we would very often routinely get "reverse homered" by the refs and pretty much always be on the short end of the stick in terms of power plays.  And our teams were skill based, not goon based AA teams like other teams in that timeframe.

So I will disagree that during that timeframe at that level home teams had the advantage, because we were constantly on the short end at home there.

my son played birth year at Allegheny a few years and we definitely were reverse homered constantly-but lots of refs are from a rival organization

No way 12 teams end up in 16u AA.  My guess is the following based on what I've heard of team makeup from other folks.

Allegheny, Lebo, NP, Steel City, Rebellion all get one team in.

Huskies, Indiana, Armstrong, Shaha, Preds...at least 2 of these teams will be on the outside looking in.

Maybe I'm way off base, it's just my opinion.

How many Huskies teams are there? Just the ones on the PAHL list or are any playing independent?

There is a database of every players previous teams that feeds into a formula that provide a teams initial ranking. Organizations can also offer their input for out of norm circumstances. The placements are then fine-tuned with placement games, and then appeal games in some cases. In general I think PAHL does a nice job with placements.

I agree with others that these teams will almost always have a team in every AA division:

    Allegheny
    SCIR
    North Pittsburgh
    Foxes
    Lebo
    South Pittsburgh
    *SHAHA
    *Predators

*SHAHA and Preds to a lesser extent, because they sometimes try and force AAA teams upon certain age groups, which tends to dilute their PAHL teams. Their AA teams are oftentimes borderline A Major/AA type of teams.

anyone know preds and shaha u14, u16, and u18 if they have aaa teams this year or top team as AA? Pretty sure 2008 and 2009 are AAA for both

From what I have heard Allegheny added 3 Esmark players and one of their goalies as well as a SHAHA AAA goalie from last year. On top of that they had 2 of their players make Vengeance and decline to stay. Seems like that team will be very good. Mid State added two Pens cuts and already had a strong team and not sure what is going on with Icemen having two teams but their top team is supposedly really strong.

Anyone know where all the Viper Stars players ended up this season because they were a very good PAHL team last year? Assuming a few went to Renegades or Icemen and maybe a few to Allegheny? Should be an exciting year for the 09 group at Tier 2.

Their top forward went to Allegheny-pretty sure he was top of pahl aa with points

So when all these AAA kids move in and displace good players who are loyal to their organization, is it really the right thing to do and load up with all these outsiders when the odds favor the one and done scenario where next year’s AAA opportunity will be their next destination??  In the process you’ve lost a nucleus of your team but you potentially have lost the talent LOYAL to your organization.  Thus losing the ability to field a given birth year.

is blowing your load to be all in on the obsession of going to nationals worth it for your organization if it means losing the long term viability to ice a competitive team of LOYAL players that can have a shot year in and year out?  I think some organizations are potentially playing with fire.

In the instance of 14u 2009 and 16u 2007, these local organizations are just trying to get to nationals. If there are aaa players coming to try to get on a team that they really think is national bound and either got cut or think a certain team really could make it to nationals, a team won’t cut someone new coming in that will help them achieve that for someone who has been there 8 years. That’s just the reality of it. A lot of times at that age, kids that have been playing aaa are sick of the travel and want more of a social life heading into high school and will end up just staying on AA teams anyway.

With PPE taking a handful of Vengeance players, it has to make you wonder if PPE got a bit of a wake up call at mid ams.

Recently they have been filling out the bottom half of their teams with out of town players who are no better than the local players they were passing on. All it's really done is made it easier for other teams to close the gap and knock them off with those same local players they passed on.

At 14s and 16s, PPE lost out to vengeance and barons who were both loaded with PPE cuts.

And this may be another fear of why esmark tryout numbers were low since usually at 14, 15, 16+ there are players that come from overseas and cut local kids and sometimes the skill level isn’t that much different too. Some people just don’t bother even trying there at older ages
