  1. I will say this much..

Each rink that is operating needs to do a better job of keeping people away from each other. I’ve seen two rinks with employees cleaning, requiring masks and that’s a start. However, what goes on inside is like nothing has changed... parents huddled together in the stands, lobby, parking lot.

Set up a sign at the entrance, masks, 6ft distance, no groups or you will be asked to leave. People would fall in line very quickly if they knew they would have to leave. Rinks have been seemingly too forgiving. What they are offering is at a premium right now, might as well take advantage and instill some order instead of letting it turn into a free for all once everyone is in the door.

And they would be doing everyone a favor by being more strict about behavior inside rink. It’s been real sloppy, locker rooms loaded with kids, parents frolicking and having tailgates. I would think that whoever is making the decision to open would realize you have people by the proverbial balls... and they will absolutely fall in line if it’s the difference in junior getting to skate.

  2. Wait so people aren’t getting the virus anywhere but a hockey rink?

And once the Southpointe rink rats determine that someone doesn’t have the virus, they can no longer get it in the future and be a risk to membership? That’s a hell of a test if it’s also giving immunity.

  3. I don’t care what the players say. They are the ones expending the effort and making sacrifices. Can’t hear them 90% of the time.

The coaches aren’t cute when they do it. The ones that do are usually playing to the crowd anyway.

The parents however make it a toxic atmosphere because they cannot control their emotions. Everyone knew what they were signing their kid up for, but they cry fowl when reality hits (no pun). I mean honest to god, you can’t make it through one bantam/midget game without someone throwing a fit about the opposing team/parents not having class.

Let the players say what they want. Hold the adults accountable. Headshots had to go, no doubt, but everything that followed has created a group of hypersensitive parents that ruin the game, the fun, the atmosphere.  How dare someone touch their baby, they know the bethel park magistrate and their neighbor is a cop, and they’re going to sue you.

  4. Does anyone really expect high school athletes not to swear? Hormones a blaze. Let’s not pussify the sport and expectations even more than we already have. 10 years ago, you could put another player through the glass and hear a bunch of “ohhh’s and awe’s”. Now a days, someone’s kid gets rubbed out along the boards and there’s three Becky’s  and Chad’s in the stands screaming for vengeance and to “Show some class!”.

Some coaches are idiots, but some parents, especially in PAHL and PIHL are reprehensible. Hockey is hockey and things are going to happen, but Chad and Becky pour the gasoline on the fire, not some kid saying f**k.

    This is teetering on clickbait.

The whole article reads as no contact propaganda. This is not a shot at you Danner, but that’s hands down the dumbest sport related thing I’ve read in years.

Coming into physical contact is 1/10 of the problem. It’s the droplets in the air that cause the majority of the transmission. Droplets in the air can stay present for a significant amount of time. Someone could sneeze at one end of the rink, and a player could inhale the droplets by simply skating in that area 30 seconds later.

You either play the game the way it’s meant to be played or don’t play it at all. No contact, social distancing hockey is not hockey and kids will develop insurmountable bad habits that will be hard to break once the game is back to normal.

It’s all going to come down to liability waivers. Not just hockey, everything.

What does Wolf, or any other politician have to gain from what he is doing?

Tell me this. What is the upside for the governors who are restricting their constituents in light of this virus? Are they getting kickbacks from the Clinton Foundation?  Who stands to gain from America being at a standstill?

Can anyone possibly conceive that elected officials are just trying to do right by the masses? Does every politician, who you don’t agree with have some kind of hidden political agenda against your interest?

This big government boogeyman who wants to take all of your freedoms... if it existed... it could so easily take all of your freedoms if it wanted to, and not by way of some sickness.

@ctil20 I too am a Republican and I don't go around here yelling at everyone as liberal or republican.  I will go further that I base my decisions on FACTS & LOGIC and not on feelings, love or social justice.  Wolf IS an idiot and a stooge and is strong arming counties with very small rates to be shutdown (Beaver) when there is really no logic behind it.  Locking down a whole county when literally one building is the main problem is beyond rationale.

Your anti-trump ranting is getting really old.

Voted for DJT and will be voting for him again this November. I said nothing about the president. You’re just reading it that way because god forbid someone agree with anyone on the other side of the aisle. You are the problem in this great country, your tribalism and small minded outlook on politics. Just keep doing what Fox News tells you to do, keep saying what they say, and it will all go away.

Anyway, what is getting old is the inability to understand that THERE ARE EMPLOYEES who are coming and going from this nursing home in Beaver county. They have deliveries in and out etc.

You people seem to think that they can “wall off” this home and that will be the end of it. There are hundreds of hosts in and out of this home on a daily basis. Most of which, live in the community.

It is borderline defeating to hear just how completely either blind with rage, or stupid people are to think Tom Wolf woke up one day and wanted to take his political agenda out on Beaver County.

Beaver County is a threat to all of western PA and Eastern Ohio right now. And to the simpleton who keeps asking me about the national guard quarantine a county. For the 20th time, yes. If residents don’t listen, let them galavant about their county... but lock them in. We don’t want your germs, carelessness or stupidity in Allegheny or elsewhere.

The beaver county residents that do listen to the orders will be unaffected anyway as they will be STAYING HOME. So a county wide quarantine with the National Guard setting up road blocks in and out of the county may be the only way to deal with the seemingly mass amount of idiots who think this virus doesn’t feel like effecting anyone but the nursing home down the street.

But we can go back and forth on a hockey message board all day. The fact of the matter is the NG is already at the nursing home. If I’m a Beaver resident, I’m taking that as a warning to fall in line.

  8. 2 minutes ago, Eddie Shore said:

No YOU suggested using the National Guard, not me.  You want them to go in a quarantine everyone (and you said you hoped he does it).  See below

I suggested quarantining the county if the residents don’t follow orders. Absolutely. This has been done, and it can be done by law.

What you suggested, is having soldiers standing outside healthcare workers homes making sure they don’t leave, then following them to work. This has never happened (in America) and it’s against the law.

OK, so what do you suggest? Lockdown a whole county because of one nursing home?  Over 300 cases and over 60 deaths at that one facility.  And why aren't the workers taking it home and into the community in clusters?  How long do you want the lockdown to go on?  Do you have a number or just until the economy is in total shambles? Please enlighten us.  Or should we just wait until all knowing Wolf says it's OK?

I suggest taking into consideration that Wolf is a talking head, and that there is a group of people giving him council.

There is a subset of society (partly represented here) who think Tom Wolf, CDC, Fauci, Birx, you name it... is out to get them. You believe the government wants to take your liberties and freedoms. Some of you, on the deep end of the spectrum, believe that this was all by design. That Bill Gates and his new world order are looking to microchip you with his vaccine.

Here is the end all be all to any of those notions. People staying home does nothing for politicians, those in power, or Hillary Clinton and her child sacrificing pagan cabal. Whoever your boogeyman is, they don’t stand to gain anything from the world being at a standstill. The dollars are not flowing. Case closed. Nobody gives a single shit about who you are, where you are going or what you are doing. They want your money and you sitting home whining about not being able to hit the golf course is not giving them your money.

Secondly, the economy has been in “total shambles” for 2 months now. What are you even talking about? Here’s what you’re going to do Chief, you’re either going to suck it up now, or this is going to drag out very long and far. So it’s either economic shambles, or economic shambles for a long time.

In our neck of the woods, mostly everyone has chosen the former. Most of the intellectuals out there understand all of the above.

As it stands, every county in western PA has done the work, and they’re set to move towards normalcy. There is one county who presents a danger to that notion. There is one county that is a high risk to move all of the other counties back to red, should they not follow direction.

Is it the people of Beaver Counties fault? Certainly not. Is it the unfortunate hand they’ve been dealt? Yes it is. Do they have a critical decision to make? Yes. They’re either going to do what it takes, or they’re going to risk getting us all locked down until Winter.

And yes, I certainly hope that if people are out and about and defying orders that the NG is sent in. Those who are concerned about the economy should be on the same page. The Western PA is in a position to start recovering economically. Going back to red would be going back to “shambles”.

Let me ask you this, have you actually read what the difference is between red and yellow? Is Beaver county really going to take one for the team by not being able to wait and hour to get into a restaurant - because they’re only taking 10 people at a time?

  10. 16 minutes ago, Eddie Shore said:

No, the National Guard.  Isn't that who you suggested and (hoped for) Wolf would send in, in your earlier post?  In all honesty, since Nursing Homes have the largest amount of cases by far over everywhere else, why hasn't there been a large number of cases of Nursing Home Workers Families?  You would think that if these people were going to work and getting infected, then bringing it how to their families, there would be a large number of cases in that group as well?  Yet, there is no data (that I know of, but please point me to some if you find it) that supports this.

So you want the National Guard at every healthcare workers house, making sure they and their family members don’t leave their house?

It’s one thing to quarantine off a large land mass, it’s a different kind of spectacular to suggest you have individuals standing outside someone’s door following them around to and from work.

Typical lib, I live in beaver county. It’s cleaner than Allegheny, all the problem is one nursing home. Quarantine the home and workers. The pandemic is bs to begin with, go read about the Hong Kong flu, it’s a similar virus.

    Registered republican.

Yeah, quarantine the workers. How does that work, do you have the police stand outside their door and follow them to work?

"Amadio along with the other county commissioners said the governor told local leaders his decision was based off the number of positive cases and deaths coming out of Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center.

“The nursing home outbreak is not a new development, it’s been going on for weeks and this administration’s irrational decision to sit on the sidelines at the beginning and the Department of Health’s failed oversight has now resulted in that administration punishing all of Beaver County,” said Commissioner Daniel Camp.

Camp tells KDKA to date there are 333 positive COVID-19 cases between residents and staff plus 71 related deaths in this nursing home. There are 78 coronavirus-related deaths in Beaver County total.

County Commissioner Jack Manning said it doesn’t make sense everyone else in the region can open, while the governor “puts a wall” around Beaver County for one nursing home. He said it’s his job to protect the welfare of businesses and residents, which is why he won’t be backing the governor’s decision."

Yeah, deprive the county businesses of a living because of an outbreak pretty much contained to one place. Does that make sense to you? I'm glad to hear that the County DA won't prosecute people who open their business.

    This is dense.

There are numerous people who work at this facility and live in Beaver. There are still what, at least a hundred or so employees who have to go home every night.

It’s nobody in Beaver Counties fault. Just the hand they were dealt.  It’s a real shame that some from there can’t follow the states demands for the sake of everyone else.

Will you all take your pitchforks up to Beaver when western PA is in the red again?

Be careful what you wish for, the DA won’t prosecute but Wolf can send in the National Guard to quarantine the county. I hope he does to be honest, selfish idiots.

If it takes 10-12 weeks to get to the green we are going to see a lot of  businesses open against the orders. Some are already defying the Governors orders We all know of Hair Salons that are quietly opening to preferred customers. What he did to Beaver County is ridiculous. At this point we should all know the risks associated with going out to public places.  If rinks were to open next week with restrictions I would let my kids go. I will probably get them a clear face shield, Make them dress and undress at home.  The problem I see is how will restaurants, gyms, salons survive on 25% capacity. Most are built on 50 to 75% just to breakeven.

What he did to Beaver County? Beaver County doesn’t meet the protocol to move to yellow. Not looking to defend the governor, but is he supposed to let Beaver County off the hook, and in the same breathe tell the south eastern counties to stay at home? When both have the same issue?

You should be grateful he kept Beaver County as is. Or tried to anyway, god knows some won’t listen and end up getting all of western pa back to red.

  14. Also did anyone not assume this was taking place. I’d bet some late night skates have happened at a few rinks. We would all like to think it’s a couple kids on the verge of making a junior team. But we all know it’s some well off kid who’s mommy and daddy want him to get an edge on all the undesirables.

The kids who have had an actual break will be better off in the long run.

  15. The same people who sneak their kids into lessons during the middle of a quarantine are the same people who will be dying inside when they realize the leg up their kid is getting on their peers will only last roughly 3 practices... until everyone else gets their skating legs back.

This has nothing to do with a season being canceled and everything to do with tournament hosts taking money, potentially folding and dissolving without reimbursement. Dates are still going to be agreed upon in principal (they know that), this is to make sure no money exchanges hands. In the event that the show cannot go on.

So, news from 3 weeks ago means it never happened?  Sorry, there is not a statute of limitations on the truth.  Maybe it doesn't happen as much now cause they got caught, but it still happens.

Nice try, but don't watch Fox News.  Truth is I don't watch CNN or MSNBC either.  To me they are two sides of the same evil coin.  I don't need anyone on either side telling me what to think.  I don't believe or trust any of them.

If you feel that strongly, you should stay inside.  Heck, you should never leave your house again.  What do I care?  Do what ever you want.

The difference is you are not content in doing what you want, you want to make the rest of us do what you want too.

I bet you have nightmares about Don Lemon tickling your feet.

Your logic is flawed.  You are making the assumption that the infection rate is standardized.  It is not.  Over 65% of all cases are the elderly and nursing homes are hit the hardest.  News flash for you, those people don't go outside!  It has also been proven that hospitals get more insurance money if they code a case as COVID versus not (look it up from any news source).  Also, it has been proven that any death that occurs and the person had symptoms of COVID (ie a temperature) will be coded as COVID.  That means if I have a heart attack when I had a temperature, or were coughing it gets coded as COVID (straight out of the CDC guidelines).  These are facts, and they are undeniable.  Look up the flu deaths from the past years

You’re citing the news from 3 weeks ago. Now it seems to be a given that deaths, and infections have been under reported. So it my mind, it all comes out in the wash.

The fact remains, had we gone about life as normal, there would be a lot more death and a lot more disruption. Can we do this forever? No. Do we need a plan for the future. Yes. However the government absolutely did the right thing with the public’s interest in mind. Regardless of what you, Fox News and the conspiracy theorist have to say.

The big one world satanic cabal doesn’t stand to benefit if all of us are at a standstill, not doing their bidding, yes? Your boogeyman needs the slaves to slave in order to reach their goals.

USA Hockey put out their Return to the Rink guidelines on their website. Basically sounds like they are leaving it up to the rinks based on State reopening. No mention of dates to allow tryouts.  At least they are thinking in the right direction.  Some of the things discussed here are in their guidelines. Like  suggesting that players dress at home and spend as little time at the rinks as possible. Limiting parents etc.

Precisely, because they don’t want to be the bad guy. It’s what I’ve been saying all along, despite clowns like Danner trying to contradict my point.

They aren’t going to be the bad guy in all of this. They will let the states do it.

  20. 51 minutes ago, Danner27 said:

Give it up, you sounding like a squirt parent. Until USA hockey gives a green light nothing is happening.

Yes, you’re right... rinks are going to bow down and lose it all because a youth sports organization said nobody can play hockey.

Since you’re so inclined to tell me what I sound like, I’ll return the gesture. I’ve yet to see an intelligent or informed post from you here. You take all of this time out of your day to give your input here and it equates to nothing of value. You present no facts, and your opinions are akin to “that mother” in the stands screaming “show some class”. You are the board Karen.

  21. Example: PA rinks are open, hockey season happens. Michigan rinks are closed, no hockey season. Michigan throws a fit about how unfair it is. Especially if someone notable has a kid playing in an area that has no hockey.

Thats the only scenario I see USA hockey even attempting this if rinks are open for business. And even then they would get laughed at.

Whatever the case, I think we all agree that USAH loves money.

  22. Right, rinks will choose to lose everything. Owners will go bankrupt and potentially have it effect the livelihood of their families.

I’m not having this conversation any longer. If the government allows rinks to operate, and USA hockey does not allow organizations to have a season. Some, if not all organizations will play under another entity.
