The Players, Coaches, Game administrators, and Refs were all aware of the chants.  The players are seen multiple times, including the captain in the third period, egging the crowd on and telling them to get louder.  Watch the game.  If you discipline only the fans, nobody learns a thing here and nothing changes.  The team is just as culpable as the student section.  Did anyone else see the photo circling of the players on Armstrong and coaches posing with the student section in their costumes after the game?  After they had just chanted the entire evening, they all took time to yuck it up in photos.  But yeah, the team didn't do a thing...

No, I wasn’t aware of that happening.   I agree with you and I would include the Armstrong hockey team/program as being responsible and should be punished.  It will be interesting to see how PIHL handles it.

All this outrage and news articles, and absolutely nothing mentioned that Armstrong was able to take their entire team and play last night and beat Butler.  Not a single player, coach, administrator was punished, it's like nothing happened for them.  You watch the league delay this until the outrage dies down and it'll just fade away.

Are the players and coaches the ones that deserve to be punished here.   I could partly blame them but I think the rink and security have the responsibility of providing an safe venue to play the game.   I’m sure tonight’s PIHL executive meeting agenda will involve a broom trying to sweep this mess under the rug.   Maybe PIHL should ban games from being played at the Belmont rink since it’s not a safe environment.

sounds like it’s happened for a long time at both the PIHL and PAHL level at this rink.

  3. Who is ultimately responsible for assuring that these children have a safe venue to play?

    Rink Manager?  Owner?

Belmont website lists Gary Montebell as the Director and Darla Toy as the Supervisor of the rink

it appears the rink is owned by Armstrong county and their website lists Don Myers is the Chairman.

This kind of behavior seems to have been going on for a long time at this rink.  Channel 11 did a nice job reporting it but we’ll see if those responsible feel any heat from it   Has the rink or county issued any any statements

Was there really a security guard on duty or was it an blowup dummy as a cost saving initiative?

  4. It’s great news that the young goalie is doing well, she is obviously a special person to handle this so well.   Suspending fans from games is a nice easy start.  It will be interesting to see how PIHL revolves this mess.  This seems to be bigger than slapping fans on the wrist.

How would the WPIAL handle this if it occurred at an girls volleyball game or a girls tennis match?     Have there been similar incidents?

  5. Assuming there is a current or former Mars hockey parent that is an attorney, who was most negligent?  security guard and his company or the rink?

Maybe PIHL since it sounds like there is a history/pattern of issues with the team and rink?

Isn’t the rink a municipal rink?   Maybe the the town is liable?

Hopefully something is done to prevent this from happening again   Seems like it’s time for someone to be made an example of for this behavior.

  6. Punishment?   Who do you think is going to fix this problem or punish anyone?   Not should, but will punish?  PIHL, MidAm, USA Hockey, parents, school district?

Other than the goalie’s parents getting an attorney, this will be swept under the rug in no time.   I hope there is a hockey parent out there that is also an attorney that reaches out to the parents.

  7. First time posting, love the forum.

My recommendation would be Shane Clifford.  Keep in mind that the he’s not necessarily the coach that you would have each week, he has a group of very competent coaches.   My son’s favorite coach with Shane’s group was Coach Mike Yaremko.   All of the coaches that we had with Shane taught the same techniques and drills.   It was seamless if there was ever a replacement coach.   We worked with Shane for over 10 years, so I’m probably biased.   There was only one or two goalies at a time for Shane’s lessons.  A lot of good individual instructions are provided during the lesson

The other goalie programs in the area seem to have a difficult time getting ice for the lessons.   It was either at 6:00 AM or 11:30 PM when they could get ice time for lessons but maybe that has changed now.  Our lessons were at the same time every week with Shane and it was always in the early evening.

Shane also has several great summer camps.  Maybe 30 goalies at the camp but the instructor to goalie ratio was one instructor for every 2-3 goalies.   All of the instructors are former students of Shane’s that have played at a very high level.  Great camps.

JS Aubin with nine goalies on the ice, are there any assistant instructors on the ice?   Pens Elite would have 10-15 goalies on the ice with one instructor, it was a mess.   Most all of the Pens Elite goalies went to Shane on their own dime.  I never understood why the Lemieux Sports Complex never had a separate small piece of ice for individual goalie training.
