I struggle with this because I think everyone's experience is their own story.  What I will say about mine is, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and if you're willing to invest in private lessons with their coaching staff, your player will get more ice time.  Not because it's earned, because you are padding their pockets.  They will tell you what they think you want to hear and will sell the same story to others on the team.  Folks will argue the same about other organizations, but I can't speak to that so my comments are specific to this coach and org. Good luck with your decision- I know it's tough!

similar to some of allegheny’s BY teams too with the private lessons=more playing time

It would be exciting IF those Tier 2 teams are really Tier 2 teams.  Based off of what I saw, I seriously doubt that.  I personally know some kids who I would honestly assess as A Minor Black or maybe A Major White players who made "AA" teams.

I think in five years there won't be anymore A-level hockey.  Kids will go straight from B to AA so parents can (pay to) gloat about how wonderful their kid is, and teams will be glad to take their money to apply that label.  I used to LOVE it when my A Major kids would go to a summer pick-up game, and other parents would rave about their AAA/AA player and how great their team would be.  Then my "inferior" kids would go out there and make them look stupid.  AND... once the season started, my kids would be out there on regular shifts in all phases of the game, and their kids would sit on the bench.

Sorry if I sound salty.  This tryout season really has my head ready to explode from the sheer insanity.  As someone who loves the game of hockey, I just don't get it.

What AA teams are you referring to? Aviators and Icemen?

With all the movement (and I'm sure more to come), what are everyone's rankings going into the season at 09 AA with some teams really improving?

Last year's Myhockey rankings at 09

    #1 MidState 37-9-6

    #2 PHA 40-15-10

    #3 Steel City 43-19-2

    #4 Allegheny 33-19-5

    #5 Viper Stars 33-13-1

    #6 North Pitt 22-15-3

    #7 Arctic Foxes 19-24-6

    #8 South Pitt 20-27-10

    #9 Preds 14-29-4

I've only seen PHA and they looked like a juggernaut when I watched them, had some holes but I'm sure they'll pick up some guys after such a successful season.  Going off what the other people have said in this thread for new teams to watch.

I'll go with: #1 PHA, #2 Steel City, #3 North Pitt, #4 MidState, #5 Allegheny, #6 South Pitt

Probably very wrong, but let's hear what everyone else thinks!

renegades top goalie went to Esmark team that folded-rumor is he goes back to renegades or badgers-if he doesn’t go back to renegades that team will be down a lot farther

This 09 Icemen team is legit and I agree they could be National Championship contenders. Anyone know if they picked up some Esmark fallouts/other AAA talent? The core they already had was very talented and if they added anyone else I don’t see anyone stopping them at States.

Icemen tryouts aren’t until next week looks like only the goalie tryout so far…..rumor is last year esmark goalie going to icemen

esmark has a supplemental tonight but vengeance starts tonight and preds and shaha aren’t done yet so who could they even pick up. Seems like a lot of players are going to preds tryouts but can’t take them all.

I heard most of the kids who were there are headed to Predators. No idea why.  Have not heard anything about who the new coach is.

Supposedly most of Esmark 09 is headed to preds too? Pretty slim open skate for esmark this weekend. They can only make one team. are the two former pens goalies that went to vengeance last year  now going to preds

Or they just take them without tryouts!   I hear there is a lot of that going on around here.

Seems as if the new Shaha “AAA initiative” felt left out and now does the same thing-putting kids on the team without trying out or having “private tryouts.”  They just wanted to be like the others now

Printscape has a fancy new temperature reader that reads your arm at the front desk and is requiring everyone to be scanned when you enter. This was as of 8/6 when I was there last.

Half of the people I know who has Covid never even had a fever. Especially the 3 kids I knew who had it.

I am more pessimistic everyday.I have already heard of several situations where friends of my kids have had someone (parent/player) affiliated with their sports team test positive. I also see that the under 18 age group has experienced the highest increase in new cases during July. Allegheny County cases among that age group was near zero in prior months but it usually double digits each day since.

Allegheny county has had 5 days straight of triple digits. 25% of all cases in PA are in Allegheny county.

Youngstown Phantoms are requiring all participants at their main camp next week to be tested for COVID-19. Short notice email sent this past Monday camp starts next Tuesday. How are these kids going to get tested with no symptoms and all the testing protocols in place? No refund policy in place for sure. What if someone is positive? Will they be refunded?

You can get tested at MedExpress and many community health centers and Excela with no symptoms. Most colleges are requiring a negative covid test prior to moving into the dorms.
