It is a fact that Montour hockey is a club sport, therefore everything is governed and run by their hockey board, not the school.  Blaming PIHL is a joke, this victimhood stuff is bullshit.  Place the blame on where it lies and where it should be.

Fafa you are off track here.  2 different topics!  We are talking about Midam board in this one.  I want to nominate you and Danner as the wise men of the Hockey world I think you are!

What I don't quite understand is why the Montour parents are directing their anger at the PIHL instead of at the Montour coach/board.  If those people are claiming they didn't know they were breaking the rules, then shame on them for not reading up.  It's not like the PIHL rulebook is 500 pages, its a 66 page doc (and of the 66 pages about 15 are blank or index pages).

Sorry I misread what you wrote. I agree 100 percent!

Well, assuming the goalie is then ineligible, it's questionable if they would have been able to stack up enough wins with the backup goalie.

I guess we will never know now!  Not the parents job to read the rule book!  It's the boards job!  Most likely registrar!

Whether this "crisis" for Montour came to rear its ugly head last week or last month, does it really matter if the rules were not followed?

Sure it matters. If they were told in November or December and had to Forfeit 5 games they would have still made the playoffs!  I do find it hard to believe that "everyone knew" except PIHL!

clearly someone was upset that someone didn't follow the rules, and once their team didn't make playoffs and the cheating team did, it happened. Id also guess nothing would have happened if montour didn't make playoffs, we would never have had all this fun the last few days

Good Point!  Did the team that didn't make the playoffs know this all along and keep it in the back pocket?  I also have to believe there were rumblings about this all season!   It's just so sneaky if so. Persons most affected are the seniors for sure

  6. I guess I don't totally understand why, after all the games were played this surfaced.  It surely could have been brought to the attention of the league much earlier!  Chances are very good Montour would have qualified without the goalie in question!  I guess we will never know.

Love that MidAm doesn't even have a link for the Tier 2 Tournament on their site. Both the 18U and 16U Divisions have 3 teams in the top 30 in the country. At 18U Mt Lebo is 12th, Foxes are 24th, and Renegades are 26th. At 16U Allegheny Independent are 10th, Renegades 14th, and North Pitt is 24th. Should provide some competitive games throughout the weekend but I guess Tier 2 isn't important enough for the district to advertise it.

Really is a very Sad situation!  I guess since most folks are only involved for 4 years and then move on there hasn't been enough pressure put on them.  Does anyone know how you get elected or appointed to the MidAm board?  I would like to nominate Danner!  Danner are you up for the job? Seeing as you are retired and one the person that seems to have a good understanding of what needs to be done to improve hockey around here.  If MidAm were smart they would try to get Hockey TV to cover the games, or triblive!  But they don't even advertise them.

Second off, I am agent for his football career.  is going on a date to the cheesecake factory after he sees the antman movie. He will be busy until Sunday if you need him. I am his agent, so if you need anything contact me. Back to montour and their illegal actions.

So why did you use his phone number? How do we contact you?

I thought I was the one around here that thinks they know everything ? Watch it with age defamation boys - I’m offended!!! ?

You know as much about everything as anyone on here but sometimes it comes off a bit salty!  But your knowledge permits it! Unlike the rantings of the self proclaimed "Overqualified"

That might make you qualified to talk about hockey!  Not sure why you think you are "overqualified"?  Are you one of those people who (thinks he) knows it all?

My son was a Pens black kid once - and now he is NCAA Div. 1.  Pens Black, while painful at the time for him ended up being the best scenario because it increased his playing time. His previous year's coach spoke to him before they released the rosters and told him he was getting a better coach and the playing time he needed to continue to develop. He would have been the bottom on the Gold team.  Interestingly enough - the black team beat the gold team that year at mid-ams.  I could go on and on about our experience as he developed and how many times he was passed over at the Pens but that's not what this thread is about.

Thanks for sharing!  Most people on this site "Danner" in particular would have us believe there is no chance to play D-1 from Western Pa.  Would like to hear more of your experience as your son navigated the hockey world.

Agreed. Coworker has an ‘09 that played in Johnstown this weekend as well. Said it was a great tournament.

She mentioned that there was also a 2011 division with Pens black, Esmark, Preds and a few other teams with Preds taking home the hardware.

Happy to see some of these teams finally playing each other. Should have been happening at the younger ages for years.

How do you think PPE will feel about losing to the Preds?

  14. 1 hour ago, PUCKCOVID19 said:

you come to PGH for PPE NOT Esmark

Maybe that is changing!  Maybe Esmark will be the new go to place for kids wanting to get better coaching in Pittsburgh!  Maybe there are people out there who think Pittsburgh has more to offer than just PPE!  Maybe just maybe hockey in PGH isn't as bad as some people make it out to be!  But then again "maybe" I am just wishful thinking!

That relationship was severed years and years ago. I don’t see it being repaired but strange things happen & money talks.

I was told esmark placed their U15 goalie from Dayton, OH (tri state) into montour school district this year. Was told Montour did not have a capable goalie going into the season. Someone fact check it, see if it’s true. I haven’t followed much pihl this year. Just a few local teams in aaa.

edit - checked EP, looks true. Don’t know the circumstances but the kid is playing for montour.

So how does that 15 year old get from Montour to PIA for games and practice?  Must be an especially accommodating billet!
