It’s great that there is a legislative push for changes. However, I’d like to see school gyms, fields, and of course rinks be put in the same category as “indoor recreation and health wellness facilities”, instead of “indoor gatherings”. If this happens, nearly all of the issues go away.

    • Indoor Recreation and Health and Wellness Facilities (such as gyms and spas) Open at 50% Occupancy with Appointments Strongly Encouraged; Fitness Facilities Are Directed to Prioritize Outdoor Fitness Activities

OK so I am confused aren't rinks considered Indoor Recreation Facilities?  How did rinks get put in a different category?

Personally know people who tested positive for Covid and funny thing is it’s so contagious that despite no Quarantine from their family nobody else but them tested positive? Also know people who were never tested and received a notification they tested positive...also work in healthcare setting and can absolutely 100% tell you the diagnosis thing you scoff at is true

All I’m saying is this is a scare tactic and obviously you fell for it...it happens to the weak minded, but for those of us who have common sense..like I said before, we are all going to die of something you can live your life in fear or you can just live life

If there are so many of us that feel this way why are we letting the politicians tell us how to live our lives?  So many people in financial ruin because of government mandates. I think it's much worse than the disease.  Many people will never recover from the economic destruction. History will show that the cure was worse than the disease.

I guess I am struggling to understand where the arbitrary 25 person limit even came from? Isn't it 300 indoor and 1500 outdoor in Ohio?

Just step back and think about this for a second. If the limit for indoor sports in PA was even 40 people none of us would have anything to bitch about because it would essentially be business as "usual".

You shouldn't struggle!  Thank our wonderful Governor Wolf and Health Secretary Levine. It's all them!  Wolf has nothing to lose. He is a lame duck governor. Can't run again.

Your the one complaining about what you can't do anymore. The longer that people like you have the "It's like the flu" or "It's not that big of a deal" attitude, the longer that you will be stuck in your miserable, freedom fighting world where you can't have the fun that you would like to. Nobody is locking us up. The rules are in place so we can back to living a better life sooner than later.

So tell me when things will get back to "normal"?  This virus isn't going away. We can't hide from it forever. So what is an acceptable risk?

  5. Speaking of PODS, Couldn't each team bench and then the ice be considered separate Pods the same as football?  I know they say 25 for a gathering but define gathering. Each team has a separate gathering on their bench and a separate gathering on the ice.  Each gathering is socially distanced from each other.  I'm not sure why we can't play hockey under this scenario.  Maybe this is the logic that Ice Castle, Alpha and others are using to play games.

    1. Play 9 players and 1 goalie, 2 halves a break in the middle so each halve has different players.

    2. Postpone the season to 1-1-21 and play 10 games if that happens.

PIHL same thing no State Championship this year.

Wow, that will be really crazy. What happens to the 2 and 10 penalties another person in the box!  Sure glad my grandkids are playing independent schedules this year. We will be out of this state a lot. Lets hope something different happens come 1-1-21.

  7. I just watched a bantam scrimmage this morning. Game was played as normal. Yes they had Refs. No mention of any of the above. You would think that something would be on the USA website by now.   All teams in the PAHL have been selected with full rosters. People are paying season fees. Who is going to tell them they can't come to a game because 0nly 9 players are allowed. If this happens a lot of people are going to want their money back. I would also think a class action suit against USA Hockey would be considered to get registration fees back as this is not what we signed up for.

yes, this sounds like the motive to me. I was told this school has a fair amount of teachers that are not happy kids are going back for hybrid learning along with some full time In school. Sounds like between the admin, board & teachers they are just looking for any reason to go 100% online. Using sports may help their agenda. We will hear what happens soon I suppose, when are most HS suppose to fo back ?

Why the unwillingness to name what school district you are talking about?  Maybe if the parents know they might be willing to put pressure on the school board. Most parents I know want their kids to play sports this fall.

I was just told of a school in Allegheny county that will not have fall sports regardless what PIAA says tomorrow. The super intendant along with the school board are citing reasons such as - the kids are not full time in school, it’s to dangerous, they don’t want athletes picking up covid and bring it to the school (hybrid attendance). Possible vaccine by January. The hockey club was specifically noted during this zoom meeting, the school board gives the the club money, they feel hockey has more close contact than any sport. It will be interesting to see if this comes true. if one school pulls this, I’m sure a few others will follow.

So what are they waiting for?  Do they want publicity with their decision?  Why put kids through practice, conditioning etc if they are just going to shut it down. This whole thing is so political and sad,  Now I heard they are not confident in a Vaccine till next summer. Wiping out a full year of learning. (online is just not the same) Wiping out a full year of sports.  I guarantee that some kids will lose out on athletic scholarships if all the shutdowns continue.

    This is good news.

Yes if I owned a rink and they tried to shut me down I would sure file a civil suit. Almost sounds to easy that the govt gave in so easy. I'm guessing that anyone willing to litigate can get a settlement as they don't want to test it.

Heard something similar from friends with kids at other schools, but it was the school board not the principals. Some school hockey programs get money from the school board, It appears these are the few schools that are shutting down Their hockey programs. I am  trying to keep politics out this but here comes the BUT - these few schools and their boards are considered very liberal by the people in their communities.

Wow I'm so confused. I can understand if a school or PIAA shut down all fall sports. It sounds like you folks are saying that they will shut down only hockey.  Doesn't make sense as at best the hockey program gets a small amount of money from the school.  Am I missing the ulterior motive?

A teenager symptoms are a mild headache or head cold last a couple days and low temperature nothing serious.

But when they come home the whole family gets it the question is do you have any health problems.

I understand what you are saying but what is the answer?  Shut down till when?  Do you think this virus will ever be eliminated?   At some point we are all going to have to live with the risk.  If I did have any health problems and I knew my grandkids were  involved in risky activities I would social distance and wear a mask around them.  Wouldn't expect them not to play sports or go to school.

As of today Quaker Valley and Freedom have shut down sports and quarantine.

This is what we will see all fall and winter.

It will come down to what team is healthy no virus looking to play a team in the same position.

You can’t rely on your schedule this year.

So it should just all be shut down until when?  I ask again what will be different on January 1st 2021. The virus will still be around.

I’ve been told by a member of the board one of the Class AA PIHL Programs that their AD has advised that their principals will likely not sign not sign rosters until in person classes resume

Not sure I understand that logic if the school is playing other sports! Sounds like a law suit to me.  School is school whether it is online or in person. I'm not saying it's the same education but the days are counting the same.
