I'm not sure it's widespread enough that people on this board have actually had it. I personally know four individuals (3 adults and 1 child) who have had it according to test results.  The child had no symptoms whatsoever. All three adults had extremely minor symptoms (the worst lost her appetite for a few days and felt like she had the flu for about 4 days). None had any lasting effects.

Just curious, do these folks still feel the need to social distance and wear masks? I would think they are stress free now!  Sometimes I think it would be better to take my chances and get it.

I got a text from the parent! As for the carrier, it was somebody at ice castle, more than likely one or more kids trying out.

do you work at ice castle ? Is that you Ralph ? Or Gary ? Don’t want to have to shut down for 14 days, pay to have the place scrubbed but hey let’s have rmu take the blame on this one since that’s when 2 of these kids got “sick”.

rmu was the last rink to open,  they have been very strict. They are owned by a college. They are following guidelines.

to recap, 3 kids attend the predators tryouts all 3 test positive for covid 5 days after the tryout.  Parents filled the stands watching their dreams. It’s simple man! It’s common sense! You don’t have to work for the cdc to figure this one out!

I haven't been to Ice Castle since March!  It just seems to me that you would be very happy to see Hockey/Youth Sports shut down.  Why not just shut it all down forever so no one ever gets sick.  I give up. Let's just shut it all down till there are no more reported cases in the US.

So 3 kids who happened to be at ice castle for hockey tryouts come down with covid 5-7 days later, it sure isn’t a coincidence. It’s common fn sense!

I would sure like to know how you got that info?  Do you know the 3 kids personally? I call BS on your facts. Do you also know the carrier?  Maybe you are contact tracer. I might believe you then.  But then you would have an idea of who brought it to the rink for those 3 to get it.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this sentence?  Are you saying those kids did not leave the house for the last two weeks except to go to tryouts, went straight to ice castle, and then straight back home?

Danner27 is making it sound like those kids got the virus from the tryouts. How does he know that for a fact unless they haven't gone anywhere else sinch March. That's all I'm saying.

  5. With all due respect where would you draw the line?  What is necessary?  Never said rinks are a critical business.   Once again shouldn't I be able to make my own decision as to what I want to do? No politics involved just my choice. Shouldn't I be able to go to the rink if it's my choice?  Your choice might be to stay home and that's fine with me. Who is forcing compliance? Where are the politics?  Maybe we should all just get used to sitting in the house so we never get sick. And what generation are you talking about.  The one that wants to get back to life?

  6. Did anyone seriously think that the virus was not going to hit the ice?  I am sorry to say that it is here and as I see it you either stay at home not see anyone and not get it or live your life and take your chances.  I just don't see how the economy and our way of life can work if we all stay at home.  I would like to think that I am in the middle. I will try to avoid it but I won't stop living to do that.  Won't go to places like bars, protests, beaches where people congregate for long periods. Will go to local Hockey rinks to see the kids play. The games aren't  packed with fans. I stand by myself try to avoid people. That's all I can do. If I get it under those circumstances I hope my immune system can fight it. Hope I don't have to find out.

This is ALL ABOUT protecting my kids.   And protecting myself too.

No, we're soccer, lacrosse, and track this time of year.  Miss those too, but this is really about protecting kids and families at tryouts like I said from the start.

    It's about staying alive.

    I like life.  Big fan.

I like my life, my kids' lives, your lives, your kids' lives, and all the kids' gramma's lives.  When my team plays your team this year, I want 100% of your team, my team, every coach, every official, and every cow-bell-ringing gramma to be there.  It will be a great game, I'm looking forward to it.

What I don't want is any single one of those people to miss out on the fun that is our game.

Especially if their absence could have been so easily prevented.

My kids are not tested.  I'm not tested.  We could be carriers.  I don't know.  You don't know.  You and your kids could be carriers.  You don't know.  I don't know.

But our lives, your life, your kids' lives, your gramma's life are all more important than my kids' need for hockey.  So we can wait a little while.

From the trenches, if you've not been: hockey brings all kinds of opportunity for fluid exchange.  Spit.  Hockers.  Snot.  Coughing.  Vomit.  Blood.  Even something as simple as a coach delivering a spirited talk at the whiteboard, spittle flying through his teeth and lips while kids take a knee, shoulder to shoulder, heavy breathing from the last drill, rapidly inhaling and exhaling.

We have enough uncertainty with this virus.  By getting together in large groups under yellow, some of us are compounding that uncertainty.

Do your kids and yourselves and my kids and me and all grammas a favor: stay home for a few more weeks.  Hockey will still be there when we go green.

    Jack,

Just want to know what is different today than it was yesterday?  Will you let your kids skate today?  Next week? Next month?  Seems to me that the risk is not that much less. Good luck to everyone with tryouts and hopefully we can have some smart, safe, hockey fun.    Hopefully we will all take precautions and limit our potential to ge Covid-19.

    Only time will tell.

  8. I just saw an article today that states that on the average summer day in the US that 7500 people will die. That was before Covid-19.  Why aren't those numbers reported every day? With a breakdown as to how they died.  Now the numbers are closer to 10,000 a day but only the deaths and suspected deaths from Covid-19 are reported.  Should be real interesting to see what the numbers are going to be when the shutdowns are relaxed.

Do us all a favor and never drive anywhere ever again. Would hate for you to have an accident and kill Gramma so she misses the hockey game.

Eventually, everyone in the world can't stay locked up forever.  Lots of people like you want to tell me and everyone else "just a few more weeks" and guess what we've been at this for over two months - supposedly to save hospital capacity. Now even the UPMC docs are telling us to stop this idiocy.  Try listening to them instead of a political back.

Im glad it seems as though you have not been personally impacted financially but think of those who have. Or those suffering depression, suicide, and substance abuse. Or domestic and sexial violence with no way to escape their home situations. Or unable to seek proper medical care for other conditions. Or unable to exercise and accruing heart disease and other diseases.

Until you (or even the governor for gods sake) are willing to give real metrics for opening up, you are simply whining that others are back to living life.

I'm with you 100 percent on this. Jack Handy might as well put him and his family in a bubble. Only sure way he's not going to catch anything.  This is something we are all just going to have to live with.  Hopefully we can be smart. And yes there are lots of people out there that are taking no precautions. But that's life and that's the world we live in.  Time to get back to it.

Yeah, dude. I'd like to get back to that, too. But no one is being "oppressed". How would I feel if some rinks went out of business over this? Bad. No question. But I won't feel any better if this shit gets prolonged enough to wreck getting back to life, and hockey, even longer. And when we get right back to where we started- not because a handful of rinks are open, but because people aren't willing to sacrifice a bit of personal gain- they'll go out of business then, instead. Look, these small businesses should get assistance from state and federal government- isn't that one of the reasons we have governments? If you're country is unwilling or unable to help in these situations then something is majorly wrong with your government. But at the same time, go tell someone who grew up during the great depression or WW2 that it was just "too difficult" to go a few months with no hockey, or getting a haircut. They'd laugh at you.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the sooner we all do what we should be doing, the sooner this could all be a non-issue.

OK I agree but give me an idea as to when that might be. 1 month, 2 months, 3 years?  I don't see an end. And when will the government just run out of money too?   They can't just keep printing it.  This virus is going to be here. We are not going to be able to eliminate it without a vaccine and even then it likely will mutate. We need to get back to life cautiously. Letting young kids play sports is not going to change the course of this virus one way or another.  If you are vulnerable protect yourself. Don't expect someone else to do it for you.

USA Hockey would not sanction the rink.  IMO USA Hockey should hammer anyone not following the guidlines.  Suspensions of teams and coaches possibly the entire organization.  You don't see other sports teams practicing, no other rinks are open for business in this fashion.  I'm all for the rink opening but you would think they would have some idea of who is renting the rink and what it is being used for.  I don't think they can just put their head in the sand and say coach A is renting the ice for private use and walk away free and clear.  Coach A is obviously renting the rink for his team to use.

My guess is nothing happens and this group just keeps doing what they have been doing.

How do you propose to enforce this. I don't think USA Hockey is going to send someone to a rink to take names.  I am actually quite shocked by the people who are whining about a rink renting their ice out. How will you feel if rinks have to close because they have had no income for 4 or 5 months. How would it affect youth hockey  if the number of rinks in western pa is cut in half when it gets to green.  And for arguments sake tell me what it is going to take to get to green. How can you work toward something with no guidelines. People are tired of government just making things up,  No one is being forced to skate.   Maybe just maybe there are people skating for the love of the game.  I would like to think that most people are well aware of the risks involved with being in public.  We are in this for the long haul. No quick fix. Time to get on with life! And yes that most likely means the inflated numbers are going to go up, people are going to get sick. Most will recover some will not. I live in a country that up until now gave me the choice to live my life free from oppression. I'd like to get back to that. Enough of my rantings.

  12. Wow King,  What is there to rule?  I do find your opinions very interesting.  You seem to know an awful lot about the inner workings of USA Hockey and Mid Am Hockey. I'm guessing that you have been or were involved with Amateur Hockey for a very long time and have seen it develop into what it is now.   I'm sure that you don't like what it is now.

Anyway I tend to be a glass half full guy and hope that people are in it for the right reasons.

What does Wolf, or any other politician have to gain from what he is doing?

Tell me this. What is the upside for the governors who are restricting their constituents in light of this virus? Are they getting kickbacks from the Clinton Foundation?  Who stands to gain from America being at a standstill?

Can anyone possibly conceive that elected officials are just trying to do right by the masses? Does every politician, who you don’t agree with have some kind of hidden political agenda against your interest?

This big government boogeyman who wants to take all of your freedoms... if it existed... it could so easily take all of your freedoms if it wanted to, and not by way of some sickness.

Then why does Wolf act so incompetent?  When Levine was asked what the criteria is to go from Yellow to Green she said it hasn't been developed yet!  Seriously! All these intelligent people haven't come up with the guidelines.  Where is all of this scientific analysis? Give us a goal to work towards instead of incompetence. Gives me no hope! I'm close enough that maybe I should move to West Virginia.

  14. Let me ask you this, have you actually read what the difference is between red and yellow? Is Beaver county really going to take one for the team by not being able to wait and hour to get into a restaurant - because they’re only taking 10 people at a time?

You need to go back and read the difference between Red & Yellow. Not a whole lot of difference to me.

Do you know what you are talking about?  Where does moving from Red to Yellow allow dine in at any capacity?     Granted Wolf is just a talking head but just like with Trump the buck stops here.  Yes the economy is in a shambles and will only get worse if the Yellow phase is allowed to go on for 10 to 12 weeks!  There will be nothing to go back to.

And yes I have read the Georgia Tech model that suggests that the State of Georgia is in for big trouble by easing restrictions too soon.  We will just have to wait and see.  I really don't like the thought of Hospitals being overwhelmed but I also don't like being told what I can and can't do. I have sucked it up for the team. It's time to move on with life.

I still believe that a lot of people are smart enough to social distance and protect the elderly without having to be forced to do so.

Don't have to wait for Wolf. Just look at the FAQ sheets. That's basically how he answered all the questions at Friday's press conference. Great to have our leader so on top of things he can't recite basic information.

Agree 100% and what happened to his CMU data based information? They have a nice website with a lot of interesting information but how does it translate into when the State can safely open up?

So you want the National Guard at every healthcare workers house, making sure they and their family members don’t leave their house?

It’s one thing to quarantine off a large land mass, it’s a different kind of spectacular to suggest you have armed individuals standing outside someone’s door following them around to and from work.

    https://www.post-gazette.com/news/health/2020/05/10/National-Guard-help-Beaver-County-nursing-home-Brighton-Wellness-COVID-19/stories/202005100104

OK, so what do you suggest? Lockdown a whole county because of one nursing home?  Over 300 cases and over 60 deaths at that one facility.  And why aren't the workers taking it home and into the community in clusters?  How long do you want the lockdown to go on?  Do you have a number or just until the economy is in total shambles? Please enlighten us.  Or should we just wait until all knowing Wolf says it's OK?

  17. What is the criteria to go from Yellow to Green?    No one knows! Supposed to be guided by some model CMU is putting together?  Once again at discretion of this Governor. No clear guidelines or measurables.  Wolf is a joke! Did you see his press conference yesterday. Kept saying refer to the FAQ section. How can he not know if he is the one guiding the ship.

What he did to Beaver County? Beaver County doesn’t meet the protocol to move to yellow. Not looking to defend the governor, but is he supposed to let Beaver County off the hook, and in the same breathe tell the south eastern counties to stay at home? When both have the same issue?

You should be grateful he kept Beaver County as is. Or tried to anyway, god knows some won’t listen and end up getting all of western pa back to red.

"Amadio along with the other county commissioners said the governor told local leaders his decision was based off the number of positive cases and deaths coming out of Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center.

“The nursing home outbreak is not a new development, it’s been going on for weeks and this administration’s irrational decision to sit on the sidelines at the beginning and the Department of Health’s failed oversight has now resulted in that administration punishing all of Beaver County,” said Commissioner Daniel Camp.

Camp tells KDKA to date there are 333 positive COVID-19 cases between residents and staff plus 71 related deaths in this nursing home. There are 78 coronavirus-related deaths in Beaver County total.

County Commissioner Jack Manning said it doesn’t make sense everyone else in the region can open, while the governor “puts a wall” around Beaver County for one nursing home. He said it’s his job to protect the welfare of businesses and residents, which is why he won’t be backing the governor’s decision."

Yeah, deprive the county businesses of a living because of an outbreak pretty much contained to one place. Does that make sense to you? I'm glad to hear that the County DA won't prosecute people who open their business.

In my opinion, if states who are actually opening up like Georgia and Alaska and Texas don't see massive deaths, there is no way our governor can keep things closed 10-12 more weeks.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say maybe 3-4 weeks if the "curves are flattened" where things are opening up.

I agree, We have been locked out for almost 8 weeks now. Can you imagine another 10 to 12? I can't!  I could maybe see keeping the Eastern part of the state locked down to get the numbers a little more under control. I also believe that if you opened everything up tomorrow you would be lucky to have 50% of your business back. There are a lot of people that would be very cautious and not go back in public. It is a different world for sure.

I have a feeling a few influential parents have kids on two of the teams. Word From pa state reps in Harrisburg - they are guessing it will be between 10-12 weeks for counties to go from yellow to green (if things go well) If this is true that takes us into late August. Forget these games, focus on trying to have a 20-21 season. I don’t think there will be any tryouts until September at the earliest.

If it takes 10-12 weeks to get to the green we are going to see a lot of  businesses open against the orders. Some are already defying the Governors orders We all know of Hair Salons that are quietly opening to preferred customers. What he did to Beaver County is ridiculous. At this point we should all know the risks associated with going out to public places.  If rinks were to open next week with restrictions I would let my kids go. I will probably get them a clear face shield, Make them dress and undress at home.  The problem I see is how will restaurants, gyms, salons survive on 25% capacity. Most are built on 50 to 75% just to breakeven.
