I can somewhat see the rationale, but wouldn't last year have been the year to play an independent schedule?

If the Preds 09 would've stayed in PAHL AA this year they would've had one of the better teams, but it's not like they would breeze through the competition. SHAHA, North Pgh, and maybe Allegheny would've been good competition. The Preds 09 would've been right in that mix. Lebo, Foxes, and Rebellion 09 teams would've been a notch below but certainly not blowouts. It would've been a fun division with good competition. Having one of the better (prob not the best) 09 team leave PAHL AA hurts the whole division and can have a ripple effect.

If there was an AA Minor division last year with verified 09 rosters, do you think that would've changed the mind of the Preds to leave PAHL?

Exactly true. Two years ago in u10 when 09s were top of the age group-Allegheny won AA followed by State College then Mt Lebo. Preds may have changed some kids on the team but they weren’t even top 3 when 2009s were oldest for u10

    What are iceman fees?

About $4500 plus $750 for jerseys and workout clothes and then you tag on a few hundred for traveling fees for coaches to the team fund. Now that they are NAPHL but the AA division of this-they fly to at least two tournaments to play AA teams in other states because obviously they can’t play the N Pitt/Predators/Arctic Foxes teams that are so beneath them at the AA level in PAHL

Agree. This happened at the PHA Icemen team my son was on.  None of the kids enjoyed the season whatsoever, it was truly sad. The coach did nothing to help bring these kids together and actually contributed to the division.  Was a lot of money and travel to play "AAA" when you actually could barely beat any of the AAA teams and lost to the better AA teams.  Hard lessoned learned.  Definitely the PHA program is NOT worth the money.  If you can find a better AA program around, like NP or Armstrong NB program your pocket and kid will be much happier.

Sounds pretty much like 98% of the people who have played for the Icemen. 3 of the original kids are still on the u18 team from the past 3 years. Pretty sad. Everyone else has figured it out about this organization and left

To know that, your kid went to all those tryouts and you have a check book for the Icemen. If kids got better playing there, I would be quiet. A lot of these AAA options are not AAA, but the kids do seem to improve. Not so with the Icemen  'Hockey is so much better in Western Pa'. Except this program isn't contributing to that statement.

Parent demand does not equal development. Shifting players to more expensive hockey without development does not grow the game.

They are really great salesmen there at Frozen Pond though ?

As an FYI, none of last years Icemen teams ( U18, U16 and U15 ) qualified for Midams this past season and if you look at the teams they played against and lost to, many were AA teams.  @sadday4hockey makes a good point, lots of $$ for an extra A which makes you wonder had these teams simply played as a Tier 2 AA independent would they have made Midams and possibly Nationals.  But then they wouldn’t get the AAA fees.  Go figure.

Wouldn’t get the third A and where would those coaches/owners get their money??!

  6. This tournament was a joke. It says above 12UA/12U Scholastic.

two of the 12u teams consisted of 50-70% of the team being Pens Elite and/or Vengeance players. Many of these players didn’t even live in the school district that they played for.  Teams were led to think it would be AA and A Major players by the tournament director and it was basically two AAA teams that crushed everyone else with the AAA parents still screaming and cheering when their kids were 7+ goals ahead of players that are mostly A Major.

    complete joke

I highly suggest everyone avoid the Alpha tournaments. It’s a waste of time and money.

I don't know if this is just another version of Esmark but you forgot the "Ice Kings" 08 and 09 AAA teams ?https://pittsburghicearena.com/ice-kings/

From what I hear about Esmark  it’s pretty much a mix of pens elite black, some vipers stars, and some kids that were actually a major gold and a major white.  Should be an interesting team......remember the Esmark team of 05s and 06s years ago......??

Same side?  Buddy, you and I ain’t on the same side of anything.  I find you repulsive and all you stand for.  I only hope you and your family feel the same pain as others by having their lives destroyed by others for nothing more than political gains.  The truth is coming out now

I also find it frustrating when PA has the same exact #s of deaths per 100,000 as Florida and South Carolina who both barely closed down. Small business owners have been completely annihilated in PA. It’s disgusting the way they have been treated.

Call me negative nancy, I was reading an article out of Philly, wolf is going to appeal this to every level and never give it up.

There is a big cross country meet on Saturday in Allegheny county and the schools were informed that if any parent shows up then the Allegheny Police  shuts down the entire meet. It is in a Public park.

Well it looks like the Icemen U15-AAA team had a few tight ones over the past weekend in Cleveland.  They went 5-0 with a combined score of 40-1 with four shutouts.

The Rock City Steel Kings, a U16-AA team lost to the Icemen twice by a combined score of 27-0, which only proves teams are playing other teams they would not play under normal circumstances and those that can play games are scrambling just to play, especially with teams in OH.  So lopsided wins may be more frequent moving forward.

Looks like the 16uAAA lost to the AA PAHL 16u lebo team and the 16uAA ashburn team in Ohio as well. How are they still calling themselves AAA?

I don’t think anyone has tryout dates, I wouldn’t expect any posted right now. What rinks will come back up before August ? Will things be lifted by then ? To answer your esmark question, yes they toss everything at the wall and see what sticks. It’s normally just the midget teams.

Who knows if teams will be able to have imports from Russia as Yuri has? Not sure when and if the borders will open and if visas will even be granted.
