I don’t care where people take there children to play. I was referring more to the fact that the teams would be more competitive locally. You can start a AAAA division and parents will throw their wallets at it.  The AA/AAA local teams could play a tournament every season if they wanted too. It would be good competitive hockey. Which is great for the sport and kids who will play beer league where they are playing AAA/AA now or the very high division of independent. Parents and Coaches worry to much about hockey rankings. Drop the puck and play.

At least you have it figured out. I could care less about ppe or any other team. It is just funny to watch people travel 5 hours when there is a team they could play in their area. Hard to be with impressed with 2 in ten years. High schools up North have put more in the nhl  then that

The problem is you go 5 hours away and end up playing those local teams away from home. Good AAA teams never want to come to Pittsburgh because they have quality opponents in their area.

I think part of it lies in the differences between their older (think U-16) team and especially a couple of the teams immediately preceding it and the younger teams.  First, two levels exist at the younger teams and the lower of the two is absolutely a joke.  Even at the higher level you get a lot of A chasers and it seems like it isn't til the older levels that it becomes seriously that much better than AA hockey.

I stated several years ago on the old forum site that western PA AAA hockey was the new AA hockey. This is the result of the onset of the gold and black PPE teams. There was always only enough talent to ice one legit AAA team in Pittsburgh. With the politics and nepotism involved at PPE the result was other programs taking advantage of the desire for AAA. And now this is what we have, a bunch of AA teams playing AAA

For 06's, the Barons are 2-0-2 against PPE, they've played twice as many games yet they are ranked lower.  And if PPE doesn't win Mid-ams they are still likely to get an at-large bid.  What does that say?

Just be ready. If your non PPE player is invited to Mid-am team USA camp tryouts, the non partisan evaluators will most likely be PPE employees. Good luck

well since no top 10 teams will play anyone outside of the top 10, its pretty hard to play those teams, or move the rankings in a season.. so yeah if you don't report your scores vs outside of top 10, win or lose,  you don't fall out of top 10 and you get to all play each other and stay all cozy happy in the top 10 reporting all those scores cause they don't hurt you.... its all a hokes.. the rankings are a joke..the sooner everyone realizes this the better off youth hockey will be.. but that will never happen cause of ego trip parents.. congrats on showing just how ridiculous peewee hockey is thread after thread after thread..

That's why PPE 16U created their own league last year so they could pick what teams they play. Never a chance of dropping in the rankings

Because they can't let down the curtain and show their parents what other options are out there.

There should absolutely be a Pittsburgh AAA tournament every year. PPE, Vengeance, Preds, etc. Put it all out there and let the games do the talking. There is NO way PPE would ever agree to do that though unfortunately.

PPE has always refrained from playing local teams. Can't take the chance of even winning a game by less than 7 goals to local "faux" AAA teams. God forbid if they were to lose. MidAm tournament is the closest thing you'll get at higher ages,  Determines who goes to nationals. This is why MyHockey rankings hurt local hockey. Rankings do serve a purpose for scheduling competitive games but it also causes a lot of problems. Local programs want your $$$ and they need a selling point. "look at us, we were in the top whatever the last few years". Top competition is what matters most for your players. Pick a team that plays against good teams. A highly skilled player on an average team will get noticed when they play against top teams. Better that than a fourth liner on "elite" AAA teams. That is what I have witnessed over the years.

Time to end this discussion.  I will try to state my point one last time.  Hopefully you can refrain from responding like a toddler.

The rankings are skewed as a result of teams not including their full slate of games.  I assume you can see/agree here?  I know for fact that this vengeance team has games left off at the request of the opposing teams.  Unfortunately for this V team, some of those wins and close losses, were against the teams I’ve mentioned many times before.  Moj has also mentioned this, so maybe that will help this sink in.

Since PPE has come into this, even though you say your kid doesn’t play here, my point to their schedule is they play lower ranked teams, beat them soundly, which equates to a better rating, and ranking.  Unfortunately for PPE, they have not played anyone ranked higher than 15th all year.  They went 0-1-1 against that 15th ranked team.

With that said, this is the point I’m trying to suggest, the V team has played a very different schedule from PPE, which suggests the difference of 0.24 rating between them is horribly skewed.

FYI. Anyone can submit scores to My Hockey as long as there is a website to confirm scores. Comparing 08's to the former Pittsburgh Hornets program is asinine. 16u and above is all that matters,

  7. Yesterday at Alpha Ice after a 16U AA game a couple of players started mixing it up. One of the refs skated in to separate the two and one player fell over. Parent called the police.

The police came to the rink and after the first period of the next game they opened up the doors behind the goal and had a lengthy discussion with the ref. This is what the world of youth hockey is today. They ref was clearly shaken after this. It took him a few minutes to get back up to speed.  Total bullshit. No win situations anymore for refs.
