Lol....pretty butthurt for having no affiliation.  So you're saying the Pond doesn't have brown water to drink?  I believe 100+ kids would agree with me.  It's not an insult when it's true.  But keep believing there's not a thing wrong with that place.

Or maybe ask the kids that had a ceiling tile fall on them during practice.

I mean, I have no idea...was your kid cut from a team, in the penalty box for something you thought was a good hit, lost a game....no kid talks about water, so clearly your ego was butt hurt at some point. Get over it, your kid probably just loves playing the game and your ego is making your player one of those kids associations avoid due to the sperm who gave him life.

100 kids, your lies, exaggerations and flat out ridiculousness makes you irrelevant.

Well that's unfortunate then.  You guys could use the help.  Brown drinking water does nobody good.

I don't own the rink. I just know when idiots are talking out their asses and try to feel important and big by throwing insults and rumors around. Isn't there another sport and board you can ruin with your negativity and stupidity? For loving hockey, seems silly you would insult places giving people the ability to play. Good work.

It amazes me how people come on these message boards and trash people by name while offering no solutions nor raising their hand to offer their “expertise” (because they could obviously do it better) all while hiding behind an anonymous account name.  Carry on.

I'm not sure what exactly you are referencing, but I mean, maybe, based on recent comments, the solution is doing their jobs?

My buddy told me that Esmark is still not in the clear of this whole Viper/Husky fiasco.  LGP13 above sounds like they are hitting the nail on the head.  High probability Esmark is playing at some other rink next year.

Assuming that is true, and perhaps they do move to Printscape....does that change the whole landscape of hockey in the south?

Remember, Esmark needs a team to roster under, one with a AAA charter.

Lots of chatter here….no solutions and few facts.
Why can’t we understand Officials are leaving the sport because of behavior like this from Coach’s and Parents?!?!

It’s a simple solution, this kind of action is Zero Tolerance = done for the year!

Regardless of this coaches position off the bench or whatever company they work with.  Do we need to go into each occupation for each coach that gets tossed!?!?  Or Parent that gets tossed?!?   No, I would agree this Coach, now knowing what he does off the bench, should have had a cooler head.  No doubt!
Anyone remember Bobby Knight did this all the time!!  As a fan, glad to see no one was injured, and the officials handled everything by the book!

I think his occupation is 100% part of the conversation. He is abusing the refs he is supposed to be protecting. Seems like he is the root of the problem.

SV certainly has the top goalie in HS. They probably lack in coaching more than anything, but they are packed with tons of good young skaters and a top end goalie so its been working out.

Curious, why would you think they lack in coaching? I'd think history and the fact they are indeed putting up points and W's with a lot of young players would lead to the opposite statement. Kids, particularly young kids don't coach themselves, and we all know parents "car and couch" coaching doesn't lead to winning teams.

I said SV has a nice squad, not denigrating them at all. I agree about PT. Since they do have an excellent coach, can't count them out. Not denigrating anyone, actually.

I haven't seen PR play recently but looks like they are improving for sure per recent scores. That's an impressive W against PT. PT also struggles with goaltending, so if teams are figuring out how to get shots on net and contain the studs, there you go. But you can't argue that PT's coach is excellent, so I would not count them out based only on recent losses. I think that team moves the puck really well.

This is an odd year, with all the talent that graduated last year and low birth years, any given team could figure things out. I think anything could still happen. Season is fun from that standpoint. Subsequent seasons, hopefully we see even better hockey from lots of teams, since there should be experience returning. People look down on PIHL, but I really enjoy it. Maybe because I know so many of the players on many of the teams at this point, so it's just fun for me.

People who look down on PIHL most likely never played a school sport. Regardless of it being a club sport, wearing your school colors and playing on a team with other classmates is a different experience that no club team can give you. I honestly feel bad for kids who either can't play due to their amateur club or think it's below them. It is something they can't get back and in 10 or so years, they may look back and regret it.

And agree. So much talent graduated last year. It is a statistical minded persons heaven breaking down the numbers. Ha!

From what I understand, PT's SHAHA studs weren't there in that game against SV, thus explaining the lop sided score. No denying SV has a nice squad this year. NA is struggling to put the pieces together, taking a stupid number of penalities, which is unusual for that program.

Not to take anything away from SV, but the fact that a squad so heavy with freshman is doing so well shows....just how depleted in talent PIHL is. This is what hockey looks like with two low number birth years playing at the same time. (2005 and 2007). Thank goodness for 2006.

Still half a season to go.

I may be wrong, but, the SV vs PT score was 4-3. And "the studs" played and combined for 6 points unless the PIHL site is incorrect.

The Pine Richland score of 6-3 two nights ago... Were "the studs" not there? Pretty sure they were with 3 points.

PT's weakness is just that, team who relies on "the studs".  If they can be coached beyond that, they have a real solid team.

Guilty as charged for sure picking PT! SV has been fantastic for sure. I still stick with original thoughts nobody touching PT this year. SV definitely matches up with them the best & has the best chance to challenge them but at the end of the day it will be a tough task. I also feel SV has one of the best coaching staffs if not the best in AAA.

All depends on what team, for all of them, show up when it counts. SV has great coaches at every level/team, that is undeniable.

  10. Just throwing it out there...all of this talk of Peter's and NA (and the NAHL kid)....

Last 2 days.. PR (arguably having a rough year) beat Peter's handily. And Seneca beat NA (and at no moment did it appear close...and NAHL experience seemed less than impressive than SV freshman play)... But crickets ...seemed like this would be a conversation? SV is a clear contender (arguably a leader beating Peter's and NA) this season, but no mention at all? Thoughts?

I played!  I know how it works.  I also know several of the local coaches.  Again, if you have the talent to be in the top half of the team it doesn't matter.  I have also played against MANY guys that have played tier 3 juniors over the years and no difference between them and good AA players.  They usually make pretty solid upper c men's league players.  Sure, their crazy parents will try to brag that they played "juniors".  THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD I WOULD TELL SOMEONE TO WASTE THERE MONEY ON TIER 3 JUNIORS SO THEY CAN PLAY ACHA HOCKEY (even ACHA ELITE).  I FORFIET.  THIS IS INSANE!!  If you have money to waste and would enjoy it then fine.  To do it to further your hockey career is insane unless you can't crack tier one or tier two and you would be a top tier 3 play hoping to later crack tier two.  Not to go play ACHA ELITE (Hahahaha)

Sorry won't beat this dead horse anymore.  This has been painful.

I may not be as connected. But from what I see...I agree. Players who are in the "top" of their teams. Be it pihl or AAA (regardless of how you idiots define faux or not) can make an ACHA team in college). The ones who don't think they can head to juniors for the extra year in hopes of making that happen. If they want to spend the extra $15k+ to make an acha team. Let them make that decision. To each their own.

  12. 45 minutes ago, Carl Racki said:

Again, please tell me what local ACHA teams are telling kids to go play Mickey mouse, pay to play juniors, before coming to their programs????   None.  Not Duquesne, RMU, Pitt, Slippery Rock, IUP, ......  All local ACHA teams.   I can't believe people actually think this.  Sadly I have heard parents say that they are playing on these faux AAA teams so hopefully they make a faux (tier 3) junior team and then can play ACHA.  That is absolutely hilarious!  Again, if you are in the top half they don't care if you only played highschool.

By the way I have never heard of the Ohio Bobcats.  They are actually ACHA ELITE not just ACHA.

If acha junior teams are telling your player they have to play juniors to make the team, the hypothesis is easy to come to...they are currently just not going to make the team as all of the players who drank the Kool aid and payed to play juniors are now going to acha teams for an education....it's a vicious money making circle....

This is a great thread that should get some current leaders starting to think.  Mt. Lebanon is municipal as well, so no concern there.  I would agree on Butler Valley and Baierl and even Alpha for that matter are not for sale at moment as well, but keep in mind these owners or rink managers and others involved keep getting older every year.  I am certainly not saying they are old or anything now, but just wondering how long they will keep going with it.  Perhaps it will be method to keep their kids all involved down the road, similar to Ice Castle and they will be able to keep in family for awhile.

My biggest concern is that when current generation of Penguins finally throw in the towel we will see hockey lose some steam in the area and so there will not be the same demand for ice time.  Black Bear will be there to step in as needed.  I believe Blackbeard is diversified in several different markets that they can weather some downturn.  They also control all aspects of the process, so have a lot more income than just from the ice time.  I know several of the regional rinks are community owned, but I see other commercial ones as potential targets as well and PAHL counts on a lot of those teams for membership as well.

I agree that those rinks won't sell to Black Bear. But PAHL needs to realize it's time to make some change...regardless of ownership, Black Bear is offering a season outside of playing the same teams...year after year...as well as visibility outside of the "pahl' region. End of the day, Black Bear sees what the end consumer is craving/wanting (regardless of how anyone feels about it) and PAHL simply is disregarding what the consumer (ie player/parents) needs/wants... It is what it is.

This is such a conceited point of view. Not sure which practices you've been watching but most legit PAHL AA teams are better than Pittsburgh-area AAA teams, excluding the Pens Elite and a few one-off BYs at other organizations. It's been said countless times on this forum, but there's no reason the top AA and faux AAA teams in Pittsburgh can't play in a competitive PAHL division (20 games) and use the remaining 20-30 games on their schedules to travel for tournaments/non-league games.

I'll disagree. After 2 years of PAHL my kid wanted to quit. He was at practices with 8 kids who half were goofing off, messing around in the locker room...missing games and practices to go to movies or high school football games or play playstation. He wanted something more serious. He wanted accountability to himself and his teammates. That is not every PAHL team. We found it outside of PAHL.

If the world revolved around your thinking Walmart would be the only store in the world to keep prices down and eliminate other options.

Because there is community value in PAHL and good economies too.  When my AA team buys in to PAHL but your AA(A) team doesn't, what happens?  Hockey gets more expensive for everyone.  In PAHL we might both pay $2k for our kids to play.  But to be independent/AAA, you pay $5k-$6k for your additional A.  Next year, because there aren't enough PAHL teams, now I have to shop for that additional A too.  So where we were once paying a combined $4k, now we pay a combined $10k.  Aaaand since we are too proud to play each other, both teams need to go out of town to play when they could just as easily have played here.  More $$$ flushed away.  Bad for us as community because we live in the same town, hold common interests, yet unable to share them.  Bad for us financially because we pay a premium on something that could have been had for 50% the price.

So because some families prefer to pay a little extra to have coaches that hold their child responsible and give them accountability (the extra A) you feel it's making you pay more? 90% of players in AAA play because most PAHL teams have zero accountability. Practices with 10 kids, goofing off, coaches who volunteer, which I give them all the credit, but are not hockey coaches. It's all what your player wants and if people want to spend the extra money for a team who is held accountable and committed, so be it. Why again should you care? Shall everyone change their values and what they want for your wallet? And I don't know about your kid, but my kid and us love to travel. See new cities. Meet new people and friends. All things AAA gives you and PAHL does not. No different than AAU basketball, elite travel soccer teams, etc...you sound self serving and selfish.

Still hanging out at the rinks watching my niece play from time to time. so yes,  I get to catch other forms of youth hockey.

instead of flooding this board with a new topic, I brought up tryouts this spring on a thread already related to the battle of the suck. Western Pa’s bottom of the bottom faux tier 1 hockey.

    I think I found a dreaming predator’s  mom.

All I see is an old man whose kids don't play youth hockey creeping on a youth hockey board. What the heck do you see? You pull up incidents that happened months ago. Do you go hang out at rinks and watch teams play?  Don't you have your own kids to go watch do something?  Since they are adults now, maybe you can learn something from them because no one here is learning from you, with exception of bad behavior and negativity. Wonder why hockey is like it is ???

  18. @Danner27 you really just need something to do as everything you post is to get some drama and comment thread going. You are like the people hanging out gossiping in the aisles at Giant Eagle.

It was not the entire team. It was the goalie, a player and a drunk dad. Most of the team and parents were embarrassed by the actions of the few. And it was months ago...good lord...

Why do you always have to tell kids they suck? It kind of seems like you suck. I'd rather kids be playing a sport they love vs hanging out at house parties. Who cares where they play? What do you care where they play? Maybe they just want more responsibility and life lessons than PAHL can provide? Maybe they want structure... playing on most AAA teams regardless of what you think of them carries more responsibility for the player, hence life learnings. Cheaper than prep school.

PE and Esmark are not for everyone...nor is PAHL... But maybe you are that guy who knows every parent/player and why they make their decisions...

Maybe the moderators can make a worthless gossip and attention forum for you, or try Facebook, WPXI post are always a great place to let loose in the comment section.

Damned right! If the goalie could hear it, everyone there could hear it.
What amazes me is that NO ADULT,, let me say it again, NO ADULT, did anything to stop this. I’m sorry, but no person, minor or adult male or female, should have to deal with what was yelled at her. “You’re a whore” and “Suck my @#$&” what the hell is wrong with these people. What if someone started yelling this at their wife, daughter, mother, I bet they would react then.

    This right here! ALL ADULTS!

The Mars President was quoted in a paper saying "“As much as I wanted to push back right during the game, that might have escalated things and made it worse,” “You never know what might happen in today’s society. … I’m so displeased that no one from Armstrong, not a parent or board member, spoke up to say to those students, ‘You’re going over your boundaries.’”

I mean if he was worried about escalation (ie afraid) - can you imagine how that goalie felt?  My son plays Varsity Hockey.  I can assure you, if this was his goalie, not one player on the team, not one coach on the bench & not one parent in the stands would have been quiet & let this continue beyond the first derogatory chant.
