Likely better to have a solid management team owning the rink going forward who can better handle large capital expenditures.

LOL. And that wasn't even the worst think about that rink.
please do tell us what was wrong with that rink. For those of us who never went there... ?

You must have never experienced the old Neville Ice Arena on the South Side. Legitimately, had fans and players pass out from the fumes there. There's a reason why it isn't there anymore.
our kids never played there. Which PAHL or PIHL teams used that?

Air quality....... start off by purchasing a NEW battery powered ice resurfacer. IIRC, the Zamboni's have been am issue for as long as I can remember.
We were there for a PIHL playoff game ~7-8 years ago, and literally I had to stand at the top of the rink with half my body outside the door, the exhaust stench was so bad from the zamboni used at the time. Never smelled a worse condition inside a rink than that.

Yes, after all the stuff we all heard that it was a done deal, it turns out that the Devil is in the details. I've heard that some of the repairs required are prohibitively expensive, including a rumor I heard that air quality is an issue.
Not that I am an expert on negotiation, but I do find it interesting that the new owners want some things done before completing the deal, instead of getting them quoted out and deducting those from the amount of the sale.
No idea how complex fixing the air quality problem is but It's likely to be costly. There aren't any ventilation pipes or openings in the crest of the rebuilt structure, so this is going to be an interesting upgrade to complete while the ice is present. lots of lift rentals.

Players in the CSDHL (Central States Region) are only allowed to move once up to 16U. They get one more move at 16U. Keeps some players from jumping around every year in Tier 2.
I'd be in favor of a system like this. That way you go where you want but you can't hop all the time.

Any news on Rostraver? Haven't heard anything in the last few weeks.

You can do that, but I think what he wants is to look at, say, Baierl, and see what's scheduled for that day. Baierl came to mind because they do publish their ice schedule, though I don't know if it would tell you who is playing whom, it might just say who scheduled the ice.
https://member.daysmartrecreation.com/#/online/baierl/calendar?location=1&start=2022-10-01&end=2022-10-01Yes, that is what I was looking for, what games are at which rink during a particular day.

Thanks for your replies!

Is there any listing on a website that you can look up and find out what PAHL or PIHL games are at a particular rink on a particular day?
I'd like to go to a few random games at a few rinks near me but I don't know how to find out game times...??

Thoughts: 16 & 18 divisions look down in # of teams from just a few years ago. Huge amount of teams at 14 and 12. Girls 19u also half the # of teams from just a few years back.

My experience with BB operations in the East is that they do not rush in to update the rink. Unless there is some kind of emergency, don't get your hopes up for any updates this season. Maybe next year.
Well that sucks.

If this is "100% true" I am hopeful that BB will make some BADLY needed short term repairs...
Nothing but best wishes for Jim. He deserves a nice relaxing retirement. He's worked so hard on this place for many years.

I talked to someone I consider absolutely reliable tonight. Apparently Rostraver management met with Black Bear representatives last week out at Delmont and signed the papers. As far as I can tell this is a done deal at this point, quite literally.
Hmmm....

Puck possession/keep away is more of a d*ck move/embarrassment than running up the score.
Everyone has their own opinion here but I've been in games where the score got north of 10-0 and it worked just fine to get the game over without making the other team look for a brawl.

Waste of time and very pointless. Also not sure why the Brooks coach didn't just go to puck possession to wind the clock instead of running up the score and show a LITTLE bit of class.

Thanks for providing the links to each showcase - navigating on the website is what I would call "challenging."

That place should be designated a historical landmark. I don’t know of any older rink in Pittsburgh area.
Nevin is pretty old too, and Armstrong.

Rumor going around today that Rostraver is/was sold to Black Bear?
anyone else hear this?

They offered us a deal at 15,500 for excell and north catholic, im thinking another 7 k for team tuition, so 23k before we touch the ice . Im not knocking the organization because I think they are all what you make them , but thats a lot of cash for “non-profit.
Holy Smokes! More than we're paying for college right now. Yikes.
Around 2015 one of my kids who were playing for PPE was asked to go to SSA. Toured and loved it, but the "discounted" rate was still around $20k.

Not to defend PHA at all, but It seems to me like the # of players is perhaps declining from a peak around by2000. At 2002 we had fewer players and this just might be a continuation of that. But what do I know.

Just looked at the ICEMEN website, there's no 18u Team. At least that saves about 20 parents considerable $$.
