Fair enough - you learn something new every day.

I only know that because I went there haha. There’s a big plaque that talks about it. Back when I was there our mascot was a kid in traditional Native American attire and would run around the field/court banging a hand drum and chanting.....A LOT has changed since then.

I wonder which direction they will take with the logo. My guess is just dropping the NA head altogether and going with the SV.

So, no delayed offsides at 18U and 16U even though these kids may also be playing high school and have delayed offsides?

Makes about as much sense as checking allowed in PAHL at 14U but not in MS PIHL play.... let's just keep adding more confusing elements for these players to keep track of.

Maybe it's me, but I have never associated the "Raiders" mascot with Native Americans so I never got the correlation with the two or why SV used NA imagery in the first place.

Because the school is literally built on land gifted to them by the Seneca tribe.

  4. So their solution is to have kids learn this facet of the game only IF they make it to Juniors/College/Pro. Um....what?

Also, can someone clarify the icing on the PK rule for me, does the shorthanded team have to gain the red line to dump the puck? Or is it this subjective "they have to make a play to get it out of the zone" rule?

I wouldn't be shocked. Look at that dump.

Yeah wouldn’t be surprised at all, but where in the south hills? Definitely wouldn’t be Ice Castle because there’s no way the Preds would allow that. Bethel? Would they want to play out of a YMCA? Mt. Lebo is community owned so I’d be surprised if they end up there, doesn’t make sense to me. Where else is there except south pointe? Which I could see happening but I wouldn’t consider that the “south hills”

Yeah, that's kind of what I was going for lol.    I helped with the rebrand and we had to stay with the same colors.  ?

Hey I don't hate it at all. I just hope the socks match the jerseys now. That always bugged the sh*t out of me about the rink rats haha. I see a lot of board member changes too, which I can only imagine is going to be a good thing. I live 8 minutes from the rink and choose to play elsewhere based on the experiences I have had in the past.

  7. I'm okay with off topic posts because let's be honest, this forum isn't nearly as active as it has been in the past, but you posted this in the youth hockey section and not the "Open Forum" section which is what that is for....

Regardless, I'm sorry your boys lost and yes PPE does still suck.

Not to mention calling an underage player out in all but name. That's pretty shameful, in my view.

Totally agree, those posts should probably be looked at by @Paul Baxter,  but it does a raise a valid point about favoritism and the extra curricular stuff that goes on when fielding teams. Players shouldn't be picked simply because of their parents involvement in the organization.

Yes! Crazy, he is so bad, slow, weak, and plays with his head down but yet because his mom is sniffing the, well you know what body part, of the management the kid will get picked no matter what.   I can understand if he was even an ok player including the politics but that is not the case.

Does he get a lot of playing time too?

I would use the word legit very loosely.  The teams they played may have been registered aaa but are far from aaa caliber teams.  Out of 103 ranked teams in U15 tier 1 they were 93.  I think this paints the picture.

Okay yeah I totally see your point now. Looking at the rankings they either marginally beat or got beaten by teams ranked 80 or lower. Didn't even play a top 40 ranked team.

People are still drinking their kool-aid.  Somehow they found enough AAA talent to not only field one U16 team but they are fielding two.   I guess people do not do research to see how awful that U15 team was last year, traveling the country to get beat by mediocre AA teams....

Looking at their myhockey rankings page it looks like they only lost to two AA teams and they were close games. The rest of their schedule was against legit AAA teams. Not trying to defend them at all as I have no affiliation, but just pointing that out. Maybe their myhockey page doesn't tell the whole story?

  12. I really don't see a problem with this approach. A lot of AA PAHL teams play independent schedules on top of their PAHL schedule already. If this league makes it easier for them to schedule games/tournaments I say go for it. Play some teams you wouldn't normally play, get some more ice time, travel to places you typically wouldn't.

Maybe this approach will start to curve the "faux AAA" teams?....

  13. If they would have just outfitted the new UPMC center on campus for hockey when they were building it, they could have had their cake and ate it too. More fans, more money, better facility attracts better prospects, which could equal more winning, more exposure, more donor money etc...

NOT TO MENTION they still could have went and sold the island sports center to whomever and made enough money to build the dumb "diversity center" that they wanted too. But again, when these plans for the new UPMC center were being purposed they didn't even once consider their hockey teams involvement. The bottom line is Howard DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HOCKEY and will be happy that its one less thing he has to worry about.

It seriously pisses me off how poorly this whole situation was handled. They could have had it all. That place would have been rocking on a Friday night with hockey fans. Might even put some of the others smaller D1 programs to shame.

Any idea what will happen to the RMU Island Sports Center then?   If they don't want to pay for the facility upgrades, I'd imagine they would sell it at some point.   The FB page says they aren't going anywhere... but with the way the D1 hockey announcement was conducted, I wouldn't be surprised to hear anything now in the guise of saving money.

Their FB says they aren't going anywhere because they don't want all their families pulling out thinking their kids wont have a place to play in the fall. I am fairly certain we can expect an announcement in coming weeks about the sale to someone like Black Bear. No idea what that will mean for the programs there. I hope for everyone's sake its business as usual.

Black Bear tweeted they are ready to buy the Island and will commit to keep the programs.

Yeah he has a good plan and the right intentions but there is a zero percent chance that RMU reinstates the programs unless the powers at be at RMU are out of a job soon. Apparently there’s more to this whole story than meets the eye.

  16. Even if the rink is bought, even if the change.org petitions reaches tens of thousands of signatures, even if they can somehow raise a significant amount of money for the programs, the university will not reinstate the programs. Where was all this support when the teams were playing? Seems like a little too little, a little too late now.
