I'm not sure if, on this WPA hockey forum, we want to open the box that the issues behind this postponement represent. There is already more than enough non-hockey talk here due to covid. No matter your view on this, it is my understanding the games on Saturday and moving forward will be played.

Really? Must be great to be you. My life sucks because of it. Me out of work since April and my wife cut back to 15 hours a week. My world has been shut down. I stopped posting for the last few months cause I had to cancel my internet and I am at my sisters house now looking for work. I have to be honest, I have been able to tolerate a lot of people on this site over the years, but the past few months reading what you have posted you are one of the few that makes me sick to my stomach
Really sorry to read this. I don’t know you from Adam, but I sincerely hope you and your family are able to bounce back from this, and that your kids (if still playing) are able to get back on the ice this fall.

I complied the list of western PA reps that have opposed this bill. The rest are all in Eastern PA and probably 8-10 are in Montgomery County alone.
I hope this helps make it easier to reach out and contact these folks.

Esmarks Facebook page live streamed the event tonight. Looked like there may have been a couple of news cameras there?

That’s all I have they form the committee to research it will have something this week vote next week
If it’s 4 on 4 full games then I would suggest to schedule double the amount of games and essentially split the rosters into Squad A and Squad B. That way the kids are pretty much getting the same amount of ice time. Even schedule the games one after another so the traveling org is still making the same amount of trips. I don’t know. Desperate times call for desperate measures! Trying to think creatively....

PAHL looking at 4 on 4 model not delaying the season no vote yet. They form a committee to look at the impact at each level.
Meeting next week.
4 on 4 as a full 3 period game with 9 skaters? Or 4 on 4 two halves and switch players?

I was told that the ice surface and the stands are considered two different pods therefore in theory if its raised to 50, that should be enough to accommodate tier 1 clubs effectively. Not sure what "pod" that frank zamboni and the EMTs fall into though.

It still doesn't make sense as to why its 25 indoor and 250 outdoor. Those numbers just seem completely arbitrary to me. Let's just throw some shit at the wall and see what sticks. When you have a neighboring state like Ohio where the number of cases and deaths are very close to the numbers here, and yet their indoor limit is 300 it just makes you really think...
Change it to 50, or better yet 100 and we all shut up and get back to hockey talk. Some will be happy (the majority of this board) and some will complain and want to stay home and that's completely their choice to do so.

I believe the answer is rinks can be open at 50% capacity for recreational activities (open skate, maybe stick time) but cannot be for sports activities (hockey games or practices).
Oh yeah ya know because that makes perfect sense! Wow....

Love the added reactions...we should all get some good use out of them I'm sure!

Not at all! Please do. I look forward to reading your article on it.

We should be allowed to speed if we choose. It's a choice that me and my family should be able to make. If you're afraid of speeders, then stay home.
Speed limits are federal and state laws, they are not suggested guidelines from a local governor. Freedom of choice does not give you the right to break laws because you feel like it. Nice try with that ridiculous point though.

This person seems like someone who definitely has an axe to grind. Just appears the other day and now is trying to cause a shit storm on a public forum instead of just doing what any normal person would do and that's file the report. If in fact there is actually a report to file.
His kids coach probably showed up to practice smelling like weed and he absolutely wont tolerate that nonsense!

Just a thought . Can we maybe get a email about upping rink occupancy to 50 written up to get out to all orgs . Just something everyone can copy and past and send to state representatives. If it's easy everyone will be more inclined to do it.
This is a fantastic idea.

I guess I am struggling to understand where the arbitrary 25 person limit even came from? Isn't it 300 indoor and 1500 outdoor in Ohio?
Just step back and think about this for a second. If the limit for indoor sports in PA was even 40 people none of us would have anything to bitch about because it would essentially be business as "usual".

Little Johnny died? I thought it was like the flu.
Re-read my posts. Did I personally say or imply at all that this was like the flu? No, I did not.
I was commenting on the fact as to why rinks have you sign a waiver and provided a hypothetical scenario in which Karen sues a hockey rink.

Just now, Quinlan2020 said:
But how could they sue? What would the damages be if Covid-19 is so overblown?
"i came to your establishment under the pretense that it was being properly cleaned and social distancing guidelines and mask protocols were being followed. After leaving your facility, my little johnny started feeling ill and tested positive for covid. Little johnny died. Now I am suing you for exposing him to the virus and killing him. Give me $5 million dollars because that's what my lawyer has deemed his life is worth."
People will sue for anything in this country. Therefore the rinks pretty much have to cover their ass by saying "you coming here is YOUR choice and we are doing our best to follow the cleaning protocols"

Why haven't we been asked to sign flu waivers? Why is it just for Covid-19? You seem to be implying that they are very similar.
Because the flu has a vaccine and has been around forever and nobody (pre-covid) would try to sue a hockey rink for giving their kid the flu.
But because the media has made covid a giant issue, these rinks have to be smart and cover their ass as certain people would be chomping at the bit to sue them for improper cleaning procedures resulting in their child getting it.

Any NP / Foxes families on here? Anyone happy about what their own orgs are proposing???
Not a parent of either org but I would think that RMU has to toe the line put in place by the governor because they could stand to lose a lot more than other rinks simply because they are tied to the college. Therefore because the Foxes don’t want to lose their home rink, they too will fall in line.

Here is a thought - between the piaa & wpial what are their plans for basketball this season ? like hockey, the sport is played 5 on 5. Like hockey there is physical play, no hitting but lots of bodies rubbing off each other. the argument can probably be made covid exposure would be higher for basketball. Similar amount of players on the bench as hockey. Score keeper, refs. It’s has to be very close to the same numbers as a hockey game.
I would absolutely think the risk of exposure would be MUCH higher for basketball. Tons of skin to skin contact, all touching the same ball with their bare hands etc...

Or just time entry and exit so everyone is out before letting in people for the next game. Or use a different exit/entry. Most rinks have lots of ways to get in and out. That could work.
But even with that, if its 25 per sheet that doesn't solve any problems with the game being played as normal.
-
If the benches and ice surface just were considered two separate pods then this wouldn't be an issue at all. If they are able to do football sidelines and field as separate pods, why can't they use the same reasoning for hockey? Because of it being indoors?
I have absolutely seen more than 25 people at different restaurants in Allegheny county as recent as last week. A BBQ place in Robinson. 10 workers behind the counter, and 14 tables of 3-6 people at each table. Yes, masks were worn by the workers and the tables were spaced out, but at least 60 people in the same building at the same time.

@Scooby Doo anyway you can share what the Foxes suggested? It was referenced a couple of times on that page. I'd love to see it.

Seems like there's a handful of orgs that are echoing NP. Happy to see that the org my kid plays for shares my point of view of wanting this to go as "normal" as possible. Also I really LOVED what the rep from the Aviators wrote. That just makes so much sense to me.
