We all know people don't own rinks because they are profit centers, they do it because they love the sport. I'd prefer the ice be the best it can be above and beyond anything else. Canada is full of literal barns and the kids are just happy to play and the parents are happy to be able to watch their kids play this wonderful sport.
Off subject, and not directed to you or any individual...if everyone just took a step back from their keyboards and anger for one reason or another, and looked at their players, who most can care less about half (all) of what is bitched about on this board, everyone would smile, as who can't smile watching their kid do what they love? And if you can't, it's time for some reflection.
Thanks, Dean.

with money to market it
That's their specialty. Marketing.
Zero substance which is magnified by their lack of Coaches listed before tryouts and still to this day.
How do you advertise for teams for which you have zero preparation as far as Coaching candidates?

How long is Frozen Pond down for repairs? I was told that they are saying at least through the 4th of July Holiday, Anyone have any confirmation? Their website is no help whatsoever.

Most times that is a group of delusional parents of players who are NOT AA level but the parents will never accept. An organization will eventually agree to host their tryouts and when all is said and done, they are either placed in A Major where they belong or get into AA and have an awful season.
Some orgs will always have AA teams at all levels that matter and some will be facilitators of the delusion.

Allegheny
SCIR
Preds
Southpointe
Foxes
Most others are a year to year crap shoot

Gotta love the post-tryout/pre-season my d$ck is bigger than yours enthusiasm.
Everyone is so excited about their new teams and the expectations are so high I'm getting a contact buzz.
Good luck to all the greener pasture dwellers, may all of your expectations be met.
One thing I do know for 100% certainty is that the higher the expectations, the harder that pre-Thanksgiving crash into reality hits.

Esmark may have actually folded their hand at 09.
-
Based upon the picture above it looks like it will be spectator's nightmare to find a good spot or two?
Hopefully something is in the works to improve that.

There was quid pro quo with a former Pens/PPE employee who was recently relieved of their duties. The list of cuts for a guaranteed spot for said exec's kids at Esmark.

I would put the onus more likely upon the Coach at Esmark.
C.J. Stelliesalotte.
Think about that a "B team" to Esmark's previously 96 ranked "A team"
What next?

That was as a Sophomore and he was also playing High level AAA hockey.

The only positive thing is that daddy at least condemned his actions. Most guys in that position would try to spin it or clam up completely.

What do the pens do for high school hockey
Let's take this one step further and ask this.
What do they do for local hockey? And the answer is still nothing.
The Foundation gives the PPE over 200K per year and yet the fees are still astronomical and certainly don't correlate to the results of most players.
Ask your club team (Amateur or School) to propose a plan for consideration and you'll get the Heisman faster than OJ in a Hertz Commercial. Well then everyone would start asking for their share.......... Right!! Because most of the money into that fund comes from the 50/50 and that is supported roughly what..... 90% by locals? Maybe as low as 80%. But it sure ain't funded by the mommies and daddies of the out of state/country players.
Each year the program becomes less and less connected to local players in their most important years and solely dependent upon them from 5-12 to fill the bean jars.

Let's dissect a few things here.
First 16U - the 2006BY wasn't the first to bring in out of state/country players in an effort to make more money..... err I mean to improve the team but they have proven a few things. Here are the facts.
They either cut or chased away enough local players that they were able to form what some have referred to as the Pittsburgh Barons who are the Midam rep at Nationals. In addition to this the top 3 teams in 16U were Pittsburgh based or roster heavy while the Money machine was 6 of 6 with 18 out of town, state, country players and 2 locals.
Next is the 14U
And this is probably most significant as there have been calls by many for the younger age groups to fight the urge to drink the kool-aid of the Trevor Edwards 6 and 7 year old recruiting machine. I think the 08 Vengeance showed that this is an option that can and did work quite well. Ironically, this group that stood their ground was the sole impetus for the founding of the Elite Mites at PPE (think about that) and the nonsensical ass-kissing of parents of 6 and 7 year old hockey players.

Lost to Esmark 4-2. After losing to the 5 and 6 seed I would say an at large is unlikely, but we'll see.
You are factually correct, but never underestimate the sycophants of Midam and USA Hockey and their endless desire to suck up to the Penguins.

Is it any wonder that soon there will be no Coaches, refs or administrators? There will however, never ever be a shortage of ahole parents who manage to ruin things for their own kids.

But it's not fair to the other players.........
My HS team had 4 Seniors and I was the only one that played Ice hockey prior to 9th grade. The other 3 started either in 9th or 10th. We weren't very good, but we were a team and we had fun. Imagine that.

So.... here we go again with the PPE Girls teams and their never-ending issues.
The 14, 16 and 18U teams have been scrubbed from the site. They've already sent one set of Coaches packing this season and it sounds like the replacement ones are already out as well.
