Take a 2 man system for the example since it is by far the most common. Ref 1 and Ref 2 each get paid X for their time and effort. The customer, in this case let's use PIHL since they cover all of those games, and in turn the player families are charged Y for Ref 1 and Ref 2. You can rest assured that Y = X + $15-$30 (per game/per ref). So for each game that they schedule referees to show up, they are taking $30-$60 for themselves.
That, Ref33, is a surcharge.
-
If you are looking for an underlying cause for the cost of local hockey rising faster than it should, PIHO is a good place to start. This is especially true in the PIHL where they are the only provider of services. Their "surcharges" per game are out of control. They also will send anyone with a pulse to JV and MS games. The aforementioned "evaluations" provide zero credibility because the refs themselves ask for an evaluation and then it scheduled so that they know when it is. A "true" evaluation would occur if the officials have no idea that they are being watched and critiqued.

Maybe Excel should be renamed Extortion Academy?

I can't beleive the Pens/Excel will have anything to do with this rink or with CC.
Believe it.
Did you look at the drawing? The Pens ARE involved!!! And so too will be CCHS.
For the same reason that North Catholic is.

Not trying to make a joke. You can bank on it.

Pitt will be Division 1 one day and the Pete was build to flip to ice.
ACC will have a D 1 Hockey Conference to go with their TV Network like the Big 10.
WVU the same.
RMU is raising money to build a rink next to the new Basketball Arena when’s that happens don’t know.
Other than the RMU portion, this post is one of the most ludicrous posts I've seen in a long time. Do you how much time and effort Joe Battista spent trying to get a D1 program at Penn State? He built that club team from the ground up into a Perennial National power and still only got the D1 program done by an unexpected meeting with Terry Pegula.
The chances of this happening at Pitt are slim, WVU slimmer and the whole ACC..........? Not a chance in hell.

Different entities, different players. Zero crossover. Period. How hard is it to understand that the Prep players are there to live the dream and line the pockets. The school players are there to get an education and be student athletes. Why is this so difficult to comprehend?

The Excel kids attend NC on an abbreviated schedule, not unlike kids at public school who go to Vo-tech, if you think about it
The difference being that a Vo-Tech program actually prepares young people with a means with which to support themselves whereas the drinking the kool-aid simply provides them with................... well, nothing more than how to suckle on the teat of their parents into their mid-20's or longer

I'll bet it makes for a great social atmosphere at the school. The kids who attend the school by choice and the kids who are mandated to attend. And I would be willing to wager that if an in depth audit were ever performed, you would find that ones whom are mandated to attend are paying less than those going by choice. Just my opinion but..........

This is getting nauseating.
The Prep team players will NOT have anything to do with the NC Varsity team. Two completely different entities comprised of completely different entities. Zero crossover.

AAA Hornets 15 beat the Indy Fuel and Erie Jr. Otters handily at the MLHA Classic this weekend. They lost by a goal to Preds u15 AAA as well. The 14AAs beat the Houston Wild and I believe there are some of the same players rostered. I’d say check out the games in this classic. AAA and AA . Final day is tomorrow.
The Indy Fuel and the Erie Otters? That's a couple of Juggernauts there. And the Houston Wild? Now there's a hockey hotbed.
The MLHA thing is just another 3-5 year "one-off" deals, or in this instance a two-off deal. Just like the Icemen was all about one person's kid, so too is this all about one person's two kids.
It will fade away and other than the PPE, Esmark and the Preds(somehow) will still be standing.
The Vengeance thing is an interesting case study. They abolished the low-level Midget teams (and yet still get crucified) but if the idea is to grow the youth teams into 14U/16U/18U that's a slippery slope to try to sustain teams for that many years. I guess only time will tell.

That is what you call detailed, compelling and well written. I also made a point to copy and save it before someone forces it to be removed. Great job FTC.

It's all part of the master plan of the world's worst hockey parent. I was also told, this is second hand and only hearsay, that attending the Excel will be required next season for all age groups applicable. Now, everyone knows it's already a requirement but this person alleges that it will be in writing and not just telepathically communicated. Stay tuned as the tryout carousel is about to be fired up for 2020.

Wow, I didn't realize he was Scotty Bowman. That's the last Head Coach I've heard of that didn't go on the ice. Of course, that's because every player despised him.

Ohhhh 16U I didn’t forget about you! The crown jewel for the predators! Recruited a few legit tier 1 players, cut fee’s, yet this team is now 6th in the district and in danger of not making the tournament. With all that talent what happened you may ask ? Well King Ralph is the coach. I’m not even sure this guy can skate! I’m sure everyone has heard why a few kids were recently kicked off the team. The inmates are running the asylum!
He's the Coach? I just assumed it was his kid.
-
Well then, perhaps they should have been playing at a more competitive level than single A?

The internet is such a wonderful resource. Enjoy the show.

Oh, right. That's the team where the coach threw all the sticks on the ice in the 1st period of the 1st game because he didn't agree with a couple of the referee's calls. All the parents could be heard on the Livebarn feed complaining and yelling at the refs and the players went over the edge as well.
It's funny how things stay the same even when the coach is different. This season the same team was recently involved in a melee at an away tournament where I believe 6 of their players were suspended. Then they attempted to circumvent the suspensions by scheduling "a game" against their 05 team on a weeknight so the players could participate the next weekend.

As I stated earlier in this thread, it is based upon who wants to go and awarded on a first to apply basis. There is no merit system used by PAHL. Again, one of the PAHL's warts.
-
At the 14U level I think it's Allegheny, North Pitt and the Foxes (maybe). Apparently, the PAHL used the simple yet not so well received method of first to apply to go, first to get to go. This is supposed to showcase the top teams from East and West. Remember the warts that were mentioned in the mis-placement thread? Consider this a wart.

Just looked up the U18 team and they lost a couple of close ones this weekend to Shadyside, 13-2 and 5-1. Good job Ralph, Gary and the rest of the gang lining their pockets. Good thing there is plenty of $$$ over there in Bethel, USC and especially Peters.

Come on............... the Yeti's? The DAWGS have been a PAHL institution for many years. If I'm not mistaken, that's where Brandon Saad began his journey to the NHL. Imagine that, making it to the NHL without playing in the Elite Mites.
