  1. Now remember what these teams were proposed to be and in case you've forgotten, here it is.

    NHAHA's Tier II Hockey Program

The Pittsburgh Viper Stars Tier II select hockey program provides a fun, healthy and competitive atmosphere in which players can strive to be their best. As part of the North Hills Amateur Hockey Association, and in conjunction with the program’s Pittsburgh Vipers and Esmark Stars Tier I AAA Hockey program, the Viper Stars will bridge the gap between elite Tier I hockey and house/rec hockey.

The Viper Stars program will offer Tier I level training opportunities currently not provided to most Tier II players and programs. We look to achieve these goals by providing experienced coaching, innovative training and the appropriate practice to game ratio. The focus of the Viper Stars program will be to develop elite athletes that compete at the Tier II level from the regular season to the National Championships

    Results thus far:

U18 - PAHL A Major - winless and last place

U16 - defunct in August leaving 10-12 players searching for a home with no prior warning

    U14 - PAHL AA Major - 2-6-1 with 24 GF and 45 GA

    U13 - Independent - 6th out of 6 Ranked Tier 2 2005 teams in Pittsburgh - https://www.myhockeyrankings.com/rank.php?s=PA&y=2018&a=3&v=125

    U12 - PAHL AA - last place

    U11 - PAHL A Major - 12th place/ 16 teams

So the name changed but the product is basically the same as the Selects.

  2. It's not a season until the Squirts get their panties in a bunch but in all seriousness, doesn't the USA Hockey ADM LTAD (long term athlete development) use multiple sports as one of their guiding principles? And by the way, the BEST 07 is clear cut and playing on the 06 team and is pretty dominant at that age group so you can all lay that argument to rest right now.

  3. So we've put two months plus of the season behind us so the rankings are theoretically starting to find their level. With all of the hoopla about the PPE including best players, best coaching, excel academy and blah, blah, blah why aren't these teams ranked higher across the board? U18 is behind Esmark. U16 is the team built for the Golden child and Coached by the Golden Coach yet can't break the top 10. 15's have crept into top 10 so that's a plus. 14's brought in half of a new team from all over the world and are below .500. 05's just cracked the top 20. 06 Quebec Team looks solid. 07's are a mess. 08's are below another local team and 09's are meaningless. Then you look at the AA teams and whoah, what the hell are people spending all the money for? I guess just the ability to brag to their friends.

Leave it to the PAHL to screw up about the only "good" thing that they had on their crappy website.  The online scoresheets were FANTASTIC. Now, we're back in the stone ages and we can't even see game-by-game scores for a given team.  What a total joke.  Why is this information "confidential"???  Ridiculous.

The PAHL is a member driven organization. If the associations agree/vote to have all the information available online then it has to be released. I agree that in this day and age there is no reason to keep the information hidden but I can provide you with the reason that it is. Parents, period. That's it. You can only imagine how many emails will be sent complaining that their kid didn't get his assist. If you want this information available, you need to ask your local association to bring it to the table at the next league meeting.

  5. Big weekend of hockey at the AAA level. Multiple events for all age groups in Michigan along with weekend #2 of travel to Minnesota for the NAPHL teams. Wednesday's rankings should begin to provide a more accurate account of local teams and it will be very interesting to see how this weekend plays out. Good luck to all the local teams traveling to these events.

  6. Here's a bone to chew on. Apparently the NA Varsity Coach, still stewing about the drubbing his team took at the hands of Pine Richland in the Saint Margaret's Championship game challenged PR to a "rematch" since they won't play each other again this season. Using the premise that he was simply rolling lines in the Championship Game (brilliant strategy) being what lead to the defeat, he wanted an opportunity to "play to win". Bad idea. Result was one goal worse. Second time 8-3 instead of 7-3. What a toolbag.

At 12u, in order to get those games, the Pens Elite has a team this year playing under Artic Foxes' banner in the boys division. A Major Gold. Are those parents paying for PAHL and Pens? That is a lot.

Oh boy, isn't that interesting? And I'll bet the RMU D1 Coach has a kid on that Foxes team. And what does the 12U Black team get? Thanks for your money girls?

  8. That's because they take every player that can skate at those age groups. They have 2 teams that are filled with players, eat up all of the unwanted ice time, struggle to find teams to play against and best of all THEY help pay the electricity bill and the salaries of the out of town boys coaches.

  9. I'll look at the other side of the coin.

18U - one additional team - this season is 00's and 01's while last season was 99's and 00's. I believe that 99 was a much smaller year of players in this area than 01's and 01 is definitely a strong year for skilled players

16U - last season teams did whatever they could to avoid being placed in AA so they didn't have to get their asses kicked 3 times each by Armstrong and Vipers

14U - they added a AA minor division so one would assume that the teams would roughly double

  10. Everyone knows how it works so if you don't like it, don't try out or play there.

I'm sure some of the players actually belong on teams and others might be the Pens and friends method but everyone has the ability to choose whether or not they try out there and/or accept a position on a team.

  11. Are you referring to the previous Commissioner or the current one when you say he resigned?

In any event, assuming Craig Barnett is still the PIHL Commissioner and has also assumed the same role with the ACHA couldn't that be considered a good thing for HS players aspiring to continue to play in college?
