I think we sort of have a split on how we view things.  Some people want to open a bit more and flatten the curve with hopes of moving toward "herd immunity".  Their thinking is that for the most part if you are relatively young you should be ok if you get covid.  On the other hand, some people want it to keep the restrictions in place and wait for a vaccine or better treatment.  Frankly, both options suck.

Which leads be back to what exactly is the end state goal?  Flatten the curve?  Suppress the curve?  Eliminate the curve?  Because pinning our hopes on a theoretical vaccine is like planning ones retirement based on hitting the lottery.

    THIS GUY GETS IT.  100%.

Side note- Here in TX, rinks are pretty much wide open and I know of 3 teams that have had COVID outbreaks already and a 29 yr old 16UAA coach died from a drug OD trying to fight it on his own.  Got an email yesterday that one of the teams my son played against this past weekend now has positive tests.  If things continue like this, hockey will get shut down here, believe me.  When one of these kids' grandmother dies, it's going to be really sad.  So, our Republican Gov. is opening shit up and believe me, our hospitalization numbers and our daily death count are way higher than PA.

Does that mean I think a 25 person cap, regardless of Sq Ft. is reasonable? Of course not.  You should totally fight that. My kid played this past weekend, despite the risks I'm well aware of.  But, don't assume that the legislators just have it out for you.  The reason you don't know of many cases up there is likely BECAUSE of the restrictions.  To say "nobody is even getting it, why all the rules?" is actually backwards in this case.

Two interesting paragraphs from the article:

“If the charge is, that there are things that don’t make sense, I’m guilty,” Wolf said. “What we’ve done is work with organizations…to see if we can figure out what is a more sensible policy. Sometimes we disagree, but that sounds like one that is, in fact, inconsistent.”

Wolf said his administration would continue working with organizations to try and make sure “that we are consistent and doing the right thing.”

Check out the “Let Hockey Play” movement on the Atlantic district’s website: https://www.atlantic-district.org

So now I’m going to be blunt. WHERE IN THE HELL IS MIDAM? WHY ARE WE SEEING NO EFFORT BY OUR PA MIDAM REPS TO WORK WITH AND EDUCATE OUR LEGISLATURE? Thankfully the affiliate representing the eastern part of the state is actually trying to get this situation fixed and we will benefit if that happens!

Guess what, we pay USA Hockey and affiliate fees so situations like this are addressed. I hope that I’m wrong, but it looks like MIDAM has failed us up to this point.

He told the DVHL he wouldn’t meet with them so...

I think most people are realizing this.   The pens black teams dying are a good sign of the times.

Here’s the winning scenario. Take that 10k a year and use it on hell, even private lessons.  Have your kid obliterate PIHL and be the BMOC. Watch as he shares the ice in ACHA with some kid who played “AAA” since squirts.

Yeah but they are going to say the same thing even if it was sanctioned.   What if a kid snaps his neck in a non-covid world?  Same rules apply.

Very true. But...it is still scaring the shit out of people thinking somehow they’d be held liable.

If nothing else comes of this, maybe a growth of AAU etc to knock down the USA hockey monopoly.

In doing some research these talking points have been circulating amongst a group of friends of mine.  They should be included on any correspondence you send to your legislators regarding #2832.  We are dealing with people that have zero hockey sense nor perspective on rink size, player interaction, etc. so some points  are common sense to us but will help getting those not connected to the sport to understand the challenges we face.

An ice hockey rink is 200- by 85-feet: that's 17,000 square feet of space just in the playing surface, with the overall averaging 25,000 Square feet.  Most facilities with two sheets of ice are over 65,000 square feet!

Under current restrictions in PA, NJ and DE, other more riskier sports are able to fully resume, in much smaller buildings.

50 people in a rink means 500 square feet per person. This is WAY more than restaurants, gyms, entertainment facilities, tattoo parlors, and more. This is also way more space per person than all other sports.

The National Federation of State High School Associations classifies ice hockey as "Moderate Risk" along with basketball, volleyball, soccer, field hockey, girls lacrosse, and 7-on-7 football.

Hockey players never share equipment, do not touch the puck, and there is no skin-to-skin contact.

Research from Eastern Michigan University shows that during a typical hockey game player-to-player close proximity is limited to 3 seconds.

Exempt Team Personnel and Game Officials from the overall number of people allowed in an ice rink at once.

Keep emailing your legislators regardless of political party. There is also a Facebook group entitled “# Let Them Play In PA” with over 20,000 that have joined.

    Keep the pressure on!!

Good numbers. They frustrate me though, because they show the arbitrary nature of this whole debacle.

I hope this works out. I’m just have 0 faith in it happening with the current Governor.

Seriously buddy, at this point nobody around here takes you serious, I think everyone has you on mute.  Stay in your home. Do you personally know anyone that got covid ? I know 4 people in pa to date that tested positive. All four are around my age (mid 50s), two never knew they had it, never sick just a slight fever. The other two are heavy smokers - one guy missed a day of work with what he thought was a stomach virus, the other guy had what he described as the flu for 3 days.

i am not saying covid is a hoax, it’s real. I wear my mask, I social distance. What I am saying - the people covid is killing are the same people the season flu would kill. If this was not an election year, this madness would not be going on, it would similar to the swine flu in 2009. We did not shut everything down for that.

back on topic - was there a vote today ?

Delayed. Can kicked down the road.

Quinlan2020 is obviously doing a lot of hand wringing, but I don't think it's fair to say that kids just not dying is the only concern. I agree, playing seems to have been largely unproblematic so far. Hope it continues as kids return to school. This is the most mingling that we will have seen since March of any population.

He doesn’t care. His kids have been on the ice with SCIR for months now.

I turned on ESPN last night and saw they were broadcasting a high school football game. Two teams from Alabama were playing. After that game ended, they broadcasted a high school football game from Utah. Both games had fans in the stands including student sections. Cheerleaders were on the sidelines and there were marching bands. I wondered how these 2 states were able to live semi-normally but PA can't. Then I searched the internet to see who their governors were. Now I know.

    I miss Alabama
