I've been to Baierl many times over the last few months.  NP has been following the Baierl guidelines which is what the current state regulations are - 25 person max per sheet.

As a parent, I could care less if I get to attend a game.  I just want the kids to play normal hockey.

I’m the opposite but respect your viewpoint when it comes to watching them play. If that continues to be the case I really can’t justify playing.

Sports are our family time and bonding time. It’ll be more baseball and something else to fill the void.

“It’s a community event. It’s more than a sporting event. It’s more than football. It’s really where the communities come together. There’s a lot of pride — a lot of tradition,” says North Allegheny athletic director Bob Bozutto.

Uhh... You're making the case for those that do not want it to happen. We actually do not want people to come together. We want them to stay apart. Especially those from separate communities.

    What he should have said:

High school sports are a very important to these kids. They provide life lessons and physical & mental well-being...yada...yada. We are also committed to providing a safe environment for these athletes and protecting the community against the spread of Covid-19. We are willing to work with county health officials to put the proper protocols in place to make this happen.

What case is there to making with the people who don’t want it to happen?  Their stance is pretty well set.

I just don't understand the "This is good news" part. I say maybe it is but maybe it's not. To me... So many of these decisions are just a guess as far as the common citizen is concerned. Freedom is fantastic and I have always been so happy to live in a country that has more of it than any other country. I just feel that so many of us think that there is no way any government official should ever tell us what to do. In other words... Govern. Getting back to the subject of whether hockey will be postponed... I don't know if it will be & I don't know if it should be. It's hardly a black & white issue. It's complicated. I respect arguments on both sides, but I'm sick of the "better not take away any of my freedoms" stance. We have had many  a crisis where we had to give up things. We had wars where we made our young people not just give up their favorite activity... But forced them to fight and risk & give up their lives to save us all as a nation. I like hearing what people think will happen and hear input on possible solutions but can we just get past this hard-line freedom to take whatever risks we want stance?

There is never a reason to give up one’s freedoms.

Wow I'm so confused. I can understand if a school or PIAA shut down all fall sports. It sounds like you folks are saying that they will shut down only hockey.  Doesn't make sense as at best the hockey program gets a small amount of money from the school.  Am I missing the ulterior motive?

Trust me, there are some districts and private schools that get more than a small amount of money from the schools.

No they don't understand the risks.  If they did, they wouldn't sue because they stuck a knife in the toaster and electrocuted themselves, or spilled their hot coffee on themselves in the McDonalds drive through, and the don't understand the difference between walking past someone with Covid in the grocery store vs. sitting near them in restaurant for an hour and a half.

If you think it’s too dangerous, don’t do it ??‍♂️

This is precisely why youth sports is at risk.

Because there is a large segment of society who are not intelligent enough to “do the small stuff” (I.e. wear a mask, social distance, look like you are trying).

Wherever you stand on the issue, your personal belief is your personal belief. However, you are a gigantic douche nozzle if you are a football coach, or any other coach, and you are not following protocol.

This is equivalent to resisting the police. We all know the power trip some of those guys get on. So you play it cool and follow along, don’t escalate the situation with Officer Beatsmywife. Same premise.

I digress, there are just too many low IQ delinquents out there to not draw attention to youth sports. They do not step back and think, if we stay out of the limelight and follow protocol... we could fair a lot better than running around the AstroTurf making out with each other every time someone catches the ball.

Parents can’t help themselves. They see Joe and Mitch partying in the parking lot... we’ll we are going to be cool too.

No way, these coaches need to be bad asses. And they’re going to show everyone how badass they are. Resisting the government, getting youth sports cancelled for the direction of this and by proxy turning our kids into a bunch of video game e-sports stars.

August 24th will be the day when PIAA votes to decides  Wolf recommendation to move sports to first of the year.

With Wolf recommendation I can’t see how the School Boards allowing Fall sports there is  to much liability and High School Hockey will fall under this even though it’s PIHL.

Yeah you’re absolutely right. Even though school’s usually heisman their hockey teams, they’ll include them in something like this.

  8. I having a feeling this along with PSU’s stance on no fans for football will pretty much knock the State College market out of hockey this year.

Government owned/funded facilities like Kirk Nevin, Ebensburg, Beaver, Hess, Indiana, Johnstown etc immediately come into jeopardy (given the response given to uncooperative officials in Lebanon county).

Just my guesses.  I’m a lot more pessimistic than optimistic right now.

  9. I hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see it happening start to finish for a variety of reasons. The least of which is that with the large portion of PAHL, PIHL and various tier teams coming from Allegheny county, I can definitely see them being on the chopping block for color code retrograding.  Even if that doesn’t happen and rinks remain open, it’s going to be an uphill battle.

....Im going to try to make this post as my theory as to why as possible, not what I want or support happening....

Second, I’m not sure either league (as an entity) will be very bold in their stances along with Mid-Am and USA Hockey.  We’re hours away from August, no further ahead than we were 6 months ago with these agencies.

Third, although PIHL is club, many of the schools still have influence on their hockey teams and will either put rules into place that will outright ban competition if their district chooses to or make it extremely challenging to both comply with and compete.

Further, it’s bound to happen where a team gets “decimated” by Covid/Corona/Chicom etc.  Real, Imagined, Cooked Numbers whatever.  There was an article on here earlier about a team. Once that happens.  I can really see a lot of knee jerk reactions happening.

I think...the Tier I programs will probably be the safest to make it happen, between financial resources and the drive to get through it.  They might have to play an all road all the time schedule to do it. But they’re the mostly likely to imho.

Scholastic programs are probably the greatest at risk.  I guess we can only wait and see at this point.
