  1. Extra special team that parents will pay a premium for Duh.
  2. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/barbara-kay-on-covid-19-we-have-to-get-the-kids-back-to-playing-sports-again?video_autoplay=true
  3. Don't have to wait for Wolf. Just look at the FAQ sheets. That's basically how he answered all the questions at Friday's press conference. Great to have our leader so on top of things he can't recite basic information.
  4. All school activities are canceled through the remainder of the school year. So the teams are technically not allowed to practice until after the school year. And since the school year is over, the seniors graduated which means they have to change the bylaws to allow graduated seniors to play. Not sure when the USA Hockey registration ends but I believe the new year begins Aug 1. If it is July 1 they have to re roster the teams and players. Which mean USA Hockey has to change their bylaws to allow graduated players on current HS rosters. Then there's the pesky state requirement of having no groups of more than 25 as part of being in the yellow stage for the next 37 days. So each team is limited to 10 players and 1 coach. The remaining 3 are clock operator, referee and EMT. I can respect their attempts to give the kids a chance to finish. But just give it up.
  5. Not a typo https://tribhssn.triblive.com/pihl-still-hoping-to-play-last-6-playoff-games-crown-champions/
  6. Those are junior programs. What players developed in the U16 level that moved on? Almost all the USPHL and NCDC players came from USA Sanction programs. Just pull up 8 or 9 of the rosters. I'm done. Take your kid to AAU and enjoy the multiple benefits and tremendous experience it offers.
  7. Please name AAU players currently in USHL or college. Thank you
  8. So when USA Hockey proposed to limit the number of AAA teams 20 years ago. Everyone was happy and it passed. Thank god. If it didn't we have 400 AAA teams. USA Hockey wanted to eliminate Middle School hockey (it happens no where but here and that's why there's problem with the check/no check rule). Complete waste of resources but a fundraiser for each organization. I know. I was on the board and our MS team made money and subsidized the other teams. USA Hockey told the PIHL it's bad for the sport and shut it down. Wait didn't happen either. USA Hockey, just like all similar organizations respond to its members. Now I am not an idiot. USA Staff stay at 5 star hotels and probably have a $500 per day per diem and take fact finder tours all over the place. Waste is a problem and we all end up paying for it.
  9. If it is so bad. Twenty, 30, ,40, 50 more would have booked by now. Not too hard get so many of these fed up organizations in a room to leave for AAU. The reason is USA Hockey isn't as bad as people think. The real problem with USA Hockey is idiot parents screw things up. Case in point. About 20 years ago they tried to put the skids on the proliferation of AAA teams. Their solution was to "award" each area with a cap on AAA teams. People screamed even though the real AAA players on teams that would have been eliminated would easily have found a new home. But what was good for the game and especially the families playing revolted. So instead of having 60 0r 70 AAA team we are approaching 200. WPA was awarded 2 teams - AM Pens and the Hornets. The Stars (prior to esmark) and Phantoms were told to drop down to AA. People revolted. What do we have now? And guess what. I've seen a bunch of these AAA teams and WPA only have enough AAA players to field 2 teams. But 5 organizations and SSA (who has to resort to recruiting players outside of the region) and a ton of AA/AAA hybrid programs. So about 60 percent of these people are being sold a bill of goods, spending thousands for that extra A. Costing their kids an opportunity to enjoy their HS years instead of sitting in hotel rooms most weekends. Before blaming USA Hockey. Think about what you want to change and see if you think it would be changed. Basically. USA Hockey is exactly what its membership wants it to be,
  10. T The question you must ask yourself is why after all these years AAU is not an alternative. My personal experience is because they are only about money and have no interest in growing the sport or care about its players. Again. It existed for years and in Michigan people see it as a complete joke.
  11. Not at all. How many independent teams have started over here the last several seasons? Were they trapped in PAHL. No. Primarily they were started as money grabs prying on parents' egos. Plain and simple. The most AAU teams are in Michigan. Michganders are way more knowledgeable about how hockey should be run. If AAU even presented an alternative, People will flock there But they have no growth because people know it is a joke.
  12. Oh, And please no AAU hockey. There's a reason why it hasn't taken off. Some teams in MI but it is horribly run, has no concern about the players or even the sport. It is nothing more than a money maker. You can rail on USA Hockey and some of it is justified but I promise you it is 1000 times better than AAU.
  13. Experts are starting to come out and say it is not as bad as people think it is. https://www.stress.org/stanford-professor-data-indicates-were-severely-overreacting-to-coronavirus https://www.pennlive.com/news/2020/04/umpc-argues-covid-19-not-as-deadly-as-feared-says-its-hospitals-will-shift-back-to-normal.html It is very deadly for a certain populace and need to be protected but it can be done with minimal disruption to our everyday lives. If you live with or have contact with a high risk person be very careful. My wife is over 60 and battled breast cancer several years ago, Her immune system still isn't 100 percent and during that time I took a lot of precautions. Most what we are experiencing today. I coached two teams ranging from Pee Wees and high school during this time. I used wipes almost to an obsession. I made other coaches handle the water bottles. I kept my time in a locker room to a minimum. Fist pumped players in the handshake line (and quickly used wipes on my hands once it was over). And for about 3 years I never had a cold which was a regular occurance during hockey season because my players were typhoid mary's. When we are allowed out full time. I will be wearing a mask and continue to do what I started several years earlier. As long as you regularly and properly wash you hands and limit handshakes and hope people learn to sneeze properly then 99 percent of the population will be fine. So grandparents don't go to games any more until a vaccine/treatment is developed. Small trade off. But with LiveBarn they can still watch in real time. Same with people in the at risk category. Parents may have to miss attending games. It stinks but as a parent I know I would rather my kids play sports without me being there than not at all (insert your own helicopter parent comment here). Be safe and smart everyone.
  14. Try building and maintaining a successful program at a place like Shaler. NA, PR MTL Peters and USC have the financial resources and should be successful every year. Shaler compares to Baldwin, Gateway, FR, Greensburg Salem and show me a run that they had compared to Shaler.
  15. I agree with most. HS hockey boards are clueless. None have the long term interest in their program as a priority. It's what's best for their kids. And those in leadership are usually parents with JRs and SRs. So their self-interest is for one or two years. Where I disagree with you is the head V coach should be the GM. Just like all the other HS head V coaches. They run and influence their program through the middle schools. At least the successful ones. A really successful V football coach makes sure his school's FR team uses the same terminology and runs about 10 - 12 of their core plays. So a FR could miss the first six weeks of practice and games and still not be lost if he goes to a V practice. HS hockey boards should be like the football boosters. Raise money, support the team as needed by providing resources.
  16. I probably should have gotten more info. The previous head coach was coaching his kid (although Steve is a dam good coach) and I thought he quit since his son graduated. I didn't realize they dumped him. Clown show. I feel sorry for the kids because they are going to be part of a program that dumped a pretty dam good coaching staff and will be coached by a guy who doesn't care. To me that means they will get someone so far down on the desirability list Shaler is the only job he can get. Or someone who never coached HS before and has no clue how much harder and different it is than amateurs.
  17. Shaler used to be a class program and should be a warning to other programs. The fall is quick and could long time. As for the Shaler fans and parents. I realized how far the program had fallen was a couple of years ago. At a game, the students had a blow up sex doll in the stands. Their parents thought how it was the funniest thing. Then went out and got about 40 minutes in penalties. I guess I answered my question why Steedle doesn't want to be involved in the program.
  18. Did they ask him to come back as the head coach? If they did and he turned them down then it really says a lot about the people running Shaler. Or if they didn't ask him it also says the same thing.
  19. I found out Steedle was dumped. That's all you need to know about the program and who is running it. I'm sure they'll hire someone willing to put in 20+ hours a week needed to build a program. But they'll get someone who will put in the minimum and collect a paycheck and be gone in 2 years. And Dazed. Every program has crazy parents trying ruin their program, They just know or care how much damage they are causing. That's why HS has taken a huge step back in the past 10 years.
  20. Three coaches in 4 years. I guess this means Steedle has finally retired. Or if he doesn't want the job there are some major problems.
  21. Eddie. You are one of the good guys here so I hope you don't think I am argumentative. One thing I don't know is did they take the ice down before this? I think it is the temperature of the building not the ice is needed.
  22. All I am saying is do they need it now? Rinks have trouble turning a profit during high usage times. To run the coolers for days or weeks with zero dollars coming in has to be a complete waste of money. Especially if they can get the conditions they need in a matter of days.
  23. One nursing home is wrecked with the virus but even in the worst case scenario there still is enough resources available to handle it. Especially if family members keep claiming the bodies. There are burials just no funeral masses. And if they are overwhelmed they can utilize a freezer truck until the rink is prepped because it would only take a couple of days. Complete waste of financial resources.
  24. Not sure why they are doing it now. Can't take more than a few days to get it ready to be used. So far no need. Their morgue isn't full. They have a back up morgue available and a refrigerator truck for 20 bodies. Fill at least two of those first before prepping the rink
