Can't move up in the PIHL.  They are a co-op team with players from multiple schools who can't field a team on their own.  The PIAA lets schools co-op and qualify for the State tournaments. I guess it is a SWPA thing and there is no complimentary division in the east.  It is great that close to 300 kids play in D-2 that otherwise wouldn't get a chance to play High School Hockey.  No Amateur team can duplicate the High School fan atmosphere!  Even if it is coming from 5 different schools.

PIHL has made teams go straight without caring if they had enough kids to field a JV/V team.

    Open Teams play 1A

Once again you just don't sign up

    Next year things will change

    Where you at nationals expert?

Just go to the Nationals website and read the USA hockey rule book for High School Nationals. Prep, Tier 1, Tier 2 and Girls are the ONLY divisions they have and the only qualifications are to APPLY. If you want BC to get more recognition then tell their coach to move them up a division. 3 losses in 3yrs should help them out with that process but judging by the way you brag about volunteering for Nationals every year and 3 losses in 3yrs they won't ask to move up because they like stats over Chips.

2 teams from here can go to nationals

    1 in the open division

    1 in the regular division

The best team from the open division is rewarded by the league and the commissioner to go to nationals

So no you don't just sign up

If PIHL would move the playoffs up 1 week States would be over and one team from 1A 2A or 3A would be able to go

There is not an open and regular division. It is Prep, Tier 1 and Tier 2.

Yes, you do just sign up. Any school can apply. If the 1A, 2A or 3A teams cared about Nationals I am sure they would complain to PIHL.

That coach s terrible he should sit his seniors in the 3rd period in there last year of high school hockey or have them pass 5 times before shooting you must watch CNBC!

3 loses in 3 years and went to Nationals 3 years in a row

Who would want there kid to experience that

You do know that they volunteer to go to Nationals, they are not picked for it. Again it's the house league of Nationals. You have Tier 1 18u, 16u, 15o, 14u and 13o and Tier 2 18u, 16u and 14u. Then you have High School which has 4 different divisions Prep, Tier 1, Tier 2 and Girl's. BC plays in the 2nd lowest division (out of 12) just above the girls division.

I don't want to make a case for the D2 kids because I haven't seen them in person, but it appears the Stellar 6 Player from the A Blue division also got nearly half of his points against some really awful bottom 5 teams. And quite honestly the other half of his points came against the playoff teams in that blue division. And if the playoffs showed us anything it's that other that CV, the rest of that division was also pretty bad. Is he a good player? Maybe. But he probably only gets a fraction of those stats if he played against the likes of QV, Shaler, Indiana, GB, Meadville, NC all season. Not taking anything away from the young man, he led the team to the Pens Cup, Undefeated Season, Freshman and all that, but it's the same situation.

This doesn't make a case for the D2 player at all. 1 is a Freshman playing a division higher and the other is a Senior playing a division lower. 1 took his team to States and the other disappeared and fizzled out in the 2nd round. Weak division or not CV swept the playoffs playing 3 team from the so called "better " division.

Where does D-2 get plenty of publicity? Has there ever been a D-2 player recognized in your Stellar 6?  You didn't even include them in your rankings and Keith Barnes didn't include them in his previews or articles on the championship previews.  Where is there any mention of D-2 in your history of PA high school hockey book?

And didn't I say that was a wonderful list.  Why don't you congratulate the player that led all of the PIHL in scoring?  He can't make your Stellar 6?  Whats the criteria for inclusion?

Congrats, you lead what's the equivalent of house league in western PA High School Hockey. The state doesn't even recognize D-2, that's why there isn't a state championship for it. He is a good player but beating up on a bunch of low level kids doesn't make him "Stellar". Seems like he disappears in big/close games.  1 goal per game (which is still nice) in 9 games that they lost or won by 3 or less. Then  43 in 11 games he played where they beat teams by 4 or more goals.

So they take a guy with known alcohol problems and legal issues who has embarrassed himself and his team publicly...and put him in charge of 12 year olds.  Seems like sound logic.

Yes, he is the general manager, head of player development and director of hockey operations 😃. Can't wait to see when 1 of the special needs kids makes him mad, then again he will probably have Livebarn turned off like he usually does.

So are you including Vengeance in the faux AAA category?  Is this why there isn’t much discussion about them?  I really haven’t seen much negativity around them, but again, I can’t find much discussion at all.

They had 1 team that was really good for 2yrs and then the whole team blew up. They are average and fall in line with the other AAA teams. Supposedly their prices are going up this season after taking over another organization and kicking everyone else out of their arena. For your kid depending on what you expect the best would be to go to your closest rink and work your way out as you get  feel for said organization.

Exactly. For a strong BY like 2009 the number should be three. Pittsburgh could have three top 40 teams. The six 09 AAA teams we’ll have next year is absolutely excessive.

There will be more 09 AAA teams than 09 AA teams. Crazy.

Blame it on the parents. To many parents want their kid to be the SUPERSTAR of the team and don't want a another kid to threaten that or they may not get seen by scouts. Then you have the pare5that won't let their kid play with another kid because they don't like that kids parents. Then comes in the parents that refuse to let their kid play for a parent coach.

At all age groups if the best kids played together Pittsburgh would have 2 or 3 strong AAA teams and some really good AA teams.

This whole 15U argument reminds me of Miracle. "If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them." Except the underdog still lost this game.

And you can all thank My Hockey Ratings for this argument. Winning isn't good enough anymore, if you don't exceed the "expected goal differential" Even a 2-0 SHUT OUT in a championship game wasn't good enough because they "should" have won by 5.

If you don't key into one single game but look at the course of the season, PPE beat Esmark back to back at MidAms 9-4, and 2-0. Beat them In two regular season games, 7-0, 8-0. That's a 26-4 aggregate score, +22 spread over those 4 games.  Almost exactly the " average expected goal differential"

Plus, that expected spread is based on an entire season of data.  Knowing Esmark, their roster for the first month of the season probably differed from their roster the last month of the season. It doesn't take that into account.  It doesn't take into account injured players in the game, or long term injuries, doesn't take into account starting goalies. It's simply a number that compares past results and theoretically tells you what to expect a match up to look like. And over the course of the season it does a pretty remarkable job.

One nice thing about PIHL games is nobody talks about these theoretical spreads. "Sure you beat BP, but you should have done it by 3 more goals." Sounds laughable right???

And going back to what I said about At large bids to nationals being good for instances where a deserving team is upset in a playoff game. Look at PIHL AA we could have a PT 7-9 team going to the state final, instead of a 17-1 SF team. And I'm not knocking PT, awesome for them, I'm rooting for them! But which team would likely give us a better chance against Philly?

At the end of the day Kansas City is the super bowl champion. Nobody cares that they needed overtime to do it or if they beat the spread or not. They won, the other team lost.

Calm down buddy, you got off topic with the PIHL and super bowl thing. Lol

The post was how MHR were pretty accurate and things went the way they were supposed to go at Midams.

We get it, your kid plays at Pens, why else would you make all the excuses for them. No one singled out the 15o group until you just did. There probably was injuries ON BOTH SIDES.  I am pretty sure the Pens added kids throughout the year also, not just Esmark if they did. If you go and look at the game sheets and standings the Pens struggled in 3 of their 4 games. The 9-4 didn't matter to Esmark because they already clinched a spot in the championship game before the Pens did. Looks like Esmark even played their backup G. The 2-0 in the finals was pretty close until the empty net goal scored with 24 seconds left.

You would make the same excuses if the Pens lost.

    https://www.midamhockey.com/

In case you want to look it up.

In the end the Pens won every division they were favored and lost the 1 they were not. MHR spread or not got everything right.

FYI, its “too” not “to”.  Hard to take you serious with bad grammar.

Enjoy the break.  You seem to take all of this too <- (proper use of too) serious with your MHR math and penny saved here, penny saved there argument.  Life is short.  Enjoy your son at whatever level he plays and root for the teams that advanced on to Nationals.

Maybe, lay off the Pittsburgh hockey scene and go troll the Shattuck St. Mary’s organization and disparage their kids.  Their program is 60k.  Thats over $1600 a win.

I plan on rooting for the Pittsburgh teams at nationals. My kids have a lot of friends on those teams and it's always nice to see a Pittsburgh team do well on the big stage. The numbers were good for every age group except 1, seems pretty accurate to me.

@nemesis8679 this is a common thread in all the cases you hear about. They often involve well-known coaches or organizations who parents think can help their kids go somewhere.

This is not only horrifying but also unbelievable. You'd think that with all that has gone on in recent years in hockey across the country - and the media visibility of the big cases - at least the pro organizations would insist on proper responses to these things. I mean you'd think they'd do the right thing in these cases for human reasons, but certainly they have substantial incentives to do the right things for business reasons.

Just like in Pittsburgh the pro organization really has nothing to do with the Jr teams besides letting them use their names, colors and logos. It's considered a non profit and used as a write-off.

Good for your son.  You should go to Play it Again Sports & use some of that $$ you saved to buy him a yellow bucket to level him up with with those overindulged Pens kids with delusional parents all wasting money to get hotel rooms at USA Hockey Nationals.

Will do and while I'm at it I will pick you up some more tin foil for your hat.

  15. You must be one of the delusional parents that drink the PPE Kool aid. It's PPE or nothing roar. Your kid must suck of he doesn't have a yellow helmet. You don't have a pro logo on your warm-ups, ha peasant. You don't have DICKS scrolling across your head, you are sooo jealous.

My kid has what those kids have just at a fraction of the price. He goes to a great public school without paying extra, he gets great skills/skating without paying extra and has gotten a ton of recognition without being pushed ahead of other kids because of his yellow helmet. There is 00.00 jealousy going on. There are other options besides PPE to be seen in Pittsburgh, you just have to stop drinking the Kool aid.

Those parents pay that much money to win and that's what they did. Good for them. They did what they were supposed to do.

The jealousy is so palpable that you can smell it.  Sounds to me like another parent whose kid just couldn’t quite make the team.  Sad really…

Jealous because I don't HAVE to spend $30,000 a year plus $$ on an advisor for my kid to get recognized. Guilty ✋🏻✋🏻🤣🤣

So what are you alluding to?   All but one of National eligible PPE teams are qualified…  Maybe I’m missing your point?

Let me rephrase it for you since my wording was a little off.

This is why the parents pay $30,000 a year, to win!

The 6th seeds at the 15u and 16u divisions both made it to the finals on the backs of heroic goaltending.   Both of these teams faced 50 shots against per game but their goalies were nearly perfect and they mustered up enough offense to get to the final.  It's nearly impossible to rely on that over the course of a season especially with a 2 goalie rotation, but in a 3 game round robin, an elite goaltender can make all the difference.

It's only fair that USA hockey awards a few at large bids to account for these sorts of situations.  You could have a wagon of a team get knocked off in a district playoff game and miss out on nationals and a 50 or 60th ranked team be the lone representative of the district.

The 18u division was won by a goalie that only gave up a total of 3 goals over the course of 4 games. Several teams had legitimate chances to win that division but were on the wrong side of close 1 goal games.

13u and 14u were each won by the superior team and faced very little adversity.

While most of this is true, If you are 1 of the top teams in the country and can not take care of a 50th/60th ranked team handedly (no matter how good the goalie is) maybe USA hockey should reevaluate that at large bid, if it were to have come down to that.

Now that midams are over, any surprises?  Looks like pens crushed it at every level except 18U where Culver won.  How about Tier 2?

Isn't that why the parents pay over $30,000 a year, to win?

13u  1st seed (7th overall) supposed to win by 3, they did vs 2nd seed (24th overall)

14u 1st seed (4th overall) supposed to win by 3, they did vs 2nd seed (28th overall)

15u 1st seed (4th overall) supposed to win by 6, won by 2 with an empty net vs 6th seed (60th overall)

16u 1st seed (17th overall) supposed to win by 3, won by 4 vs 6th seed (41st overall)

18u 2nd seed (17th overall) supposed to lose by 2, lost by 2 to the 1st seed (7th overall)

PAHL wants to charge the money and do the least work possible. Basically they run an organized in-house league that travels to play. I can see it getting to where they're being challenged with a competitor now and will probably end up rolling over and giving up as they continue to lose players and teams.

However, I'll add that the AHF/THF groups on Facebook have an awful lot of complaining about "my kid faced 60 shots but the scoresheet only said 58", "they totally missed my kid's secondary assists 3 time this weekend", or any different incarnations of that you can think of. So I can see where PAHL doesn't want hounded week in and week out with those kind of complaints.

This is the problem with having score sheets, the parents have to ruin it once again. Goalie parents are the WORST by far and most of them don't know what a REAL shit on goal is and want everything thrown near their kid listed as a shot. They yell at the coaches, refs and score keepers if their kids don't get their assist or shots right. I know parents that have actually called and Emailed the teams, leagues and companies running a tournament because they keep their own stats and even send video clips of their kids not getting a 2nd assist or a shot went off their kid and someone else got the goal. Parents ruin everything in youth sports.
