OK...  so back to the Stellar 6 discussion, would the best player(s) at D2 put up similar numbers against AA competition if they are still on their D2 team and playing at that level?  I feel like that is the question that started this discussion.  Based off of some of the responses, unless the player(s) in question are good enough to carry a team, my instinct is that the answer is going to be they would not.

There are numerous good players at the D2 level putting up ungodly numbers, but that is because in general D2 teams lack the depth to field 3-4 solid lines so the top players are on the ice 75% of time time, including special teams play.  Also, some teams may roll four lines to give all players ice time which is a huge mismatch to a team rolling two lines with their best players which allows players to pad their stats.  Again, not to disparage any players on that level but IMO they would not put up similar numbers at AA or AAA PIHL level.

I haven’t paid attention to that lately, but I do remember kids joking about a particular player doing that a few years ago. But doesn’t mean that all kids do it, so to discount everyone’s assists based on the fact that some kids do it is probably not the best solution.

I never said all kids do it, but a lot of them do it.  A lot of them.

Why less weight for assists? I am familiar with high school hockey, but don’t understand your statement.

I cannot speak for @twoboys but if you watch closely after a goal is scored, you will see players get in the refs ear that they were the ones that should be awarded the assist.  it happens all of the time and I have seen players nowhere near the puck or scoring play do this in order to pad their stats.

Looks like parents in Detroit are burning their money as well. Glad @fafafohi and the crew have it figured out or what would we all do??

LOL I never told you what to do now did I?  I stated what I WOULD DO.  And I also said "to each his own."

Make your own decision - I don't really care what you do.  Preds and Icemen AAA coaches are always looking for that diamond in the rough and parents with a thick wallet, maybe you and your player fit the bill.

If you surveyed all the players and parents on these teams, I would guess almost all would say they would rather be on a Tier I team and not win (as many probably somehow believe they can win).

Preds parents from the U18 AAA 105th ranked Tier 1 team and Icemen parents from the U18AAA 120th ranked team might respond with "hold my beer."  Both teams were out of MidAms consideration by December.

No way in hell would I pay for the extra A just to say my kid played AAA on a horrible team with no shot at playing in MidAms and would rather have a realistic chance of going to MidAms and Natty's on a top AA team.  Hell, the Preds AA U18 team was ranked higher than their U18 AAA team.

    $4k tuition for a PAHL team….yikes

It is typically based on ice time and the amount of tournaments the team plays.  Typically a PAHL team plays in four tournaments - two home and two away but could be more.  Add the amount of practice ice slots and 20 PAHL games along with any independent games scheduled.  Then do the math.  If a PAHL team is playing 55+ games plus 1-2 practice slots a week it is not unreasonable for a $3,500-4K spend.  Also look to see if the practice slots are shared or full ice.

Some may say the life experiences of living with a host family in a new city, and traveling the US and Canada while developing relationships with that family, coaches, and players all while pushing oneself to succeed at the highest level of their sport might be more beneficial than attending a dance at the Burgettstown Days Inn.

    To each his own.

I heard directly from a Preds parent that they were told high school hockey wasn't an option next year.  Not sure if they were correct, telling the truth, etc (I don't even know the guy he was talking to my brother) but hopefully he's wrong that sounds insane.  Maybe they changed their mind when parents got upset.

If my kid wanted to play high school hockey and club, and the club told him he couldn't play HS then I would move on and move fast.  Granted, HS hockey is not at the level of some AA and AAA level club teams, but kids love playing in front of their school friends.  I have watched numerous Pens Cup games this year and the vibe has been nothing but outstanding.

The Preds AAA level teams are a joke anyhow - did any of them make MidAms?

Sure it counts! But there are different perspectives in sport and not one linear path. Lift up all kids and do not insult those who have produced players.

This is not a dis to the players on the Preds U18 team, but do you really think a team that was ranked 105th out of 125 teams is “producing players” when they can’t sniff MidAms, get a game with a top 40 team while their U18 AA team was ranked higher?

  10. @Spear and Magic Helmet" If PIHL can do individual stats, so can PAHL. I'm sure the complaints are happening in PIHL. There is a policy you can put in, I'm sure. I actually thought the issue was a lack of volunteers to do the manual input of stats, but it's clear that is not the reason."

Both PIHL and PAHL run on the same platform - SportsEngine so the data is there, PAHL doesn't want to share it.

Not only do PIHL stats get generated live during the game, but once the game is over those same stats appear on each player's profile on Elite Prospects.

Anything is possible if there is a willingness........the dinosaurs at PAHL have none.

I have attended a number of PIHL playoff games over the years ( only one this year ) and the atmosphere is fantastic.

And while I am complaining about the MidAm why can't they post schedules for the District tournaments?  Is it a secret?  They do NOTHING to promote the sport.  I know the schedules are out already!  Just try to find them!  At least PAHL has schedules up for playoffs!

They just posted the schedule for MidAms Tiers 1 and 2.

thank the curfew clock.  at this level there should be OT AND SHHOT OUTS BEFORE A TIES

If we need more time for the game to be completed before the curfew clock expires, how about allowing players at 16U AA and 18U AA levels to touch up on off sides and also allow them to ice the puck on the PK.  Less stoppages of play will allow more time for OT or a shootout.

That way we kill two birds with one stone.

Looks as if PAHL may be re-evaluating the Fair Play Point system.  There is info on some of the new rules proposals on their site.  PAHL Playing Rules Proposals (pahockey.com)

The proposed new rule for goalie rostering seems complicated.  It looks like they are considering limiting a goalie's ability to skate out to 25% of the games.  I suspect this is a non-issue for most of the older age groups.  For Squirts, why 25% and not 50%?

To see the dumbest rule in all of youth hockey ( and there are a lot of them ) in the fair play point system potentially going away would be a good thing.  Then they can take another look at ties as there is no OT or shootout which is a joke.

The PAHL could close the gap and seriously compete with the best Tier 2 18U AA leagues…if they evolve just a little and promote their league as a AA developmental league. Instead, the PAHL have apparently built an iron curtain around accessing any information about the member teams and players. You can find the team names and maybe the players names. But that’s where it ends. They keep any and all statistical information zipped up tight. It’s reminiscent of the Soviet Union during the Cold War. IMO, it’s myopic and has it’s whole foundation based on fear-laden principles. I fear that if it doesn’t adapt and keep up with the times…the outside influencers promising greener pastures might entice some people.

This^^^^ 100%, especially for the dinosaurs within PAHL that are wondering why the league has been on a steady downfall for years, while other similar Tier 2 leagues actually promote their players, have all-star games, post stats and are flourishing.

Below is an example of what the CSDHL does for their players.......and what PAHL does for theirs.

How is Armstrong ranked 7th in 18u tier 2

They are responsible for reporting scores for tier 2 to my hockey rankings

    Their score goes in immediately

And don't post other teams for awhile to benefit themselves

They just posted that they  beat the preds but they didn't

I'm sure it was a HONEST mistake that will take weeks to fix

They lost to the preds twice

    They tied Np/ lebo/ Allegheny / rennagades

Don't get me wrong they have played good teams but 7th in the country ?

Throw in visiting teams playing at Armstrong’s barn and getting homered by the refs goes into their ranking.  The stupid fair play point is in jeopardy for any visiting team before kids lace up the skates.  It is an absolute joke.  Too bad ballless PAHL stopped posting game stats to indicate penalty minutes for both teams.  Seems anabolic hockey parents were up in arms their kid didn’t get credited for an apple in recent games and PAHL caved.

Usually the penalty minute ratio at Belmont is 3/1 in favor of the visiting team.

The goal of the rule at the amateur level isn't spectator entertainment value, it is player development.  The D are required to handle the puck more and be more creative with their puck movement rather than just banging the puck back in the zone.  Again, I don't love the extra whistles, but I do see the players adapting and being more creative.

So for a kid that plays at the High School and U18 level, you are good with no icing on a PK for club hockey but aware that for HS hockey it is allowed?

The rule at U18 is a complete joke.

Lots of teams and leagues don’t publish statistics.  Pens Elite doesn’t.  While I think it’s cool for the players and there should be stats posted for PAHL, some are putting too much stock in it regarding  promotion to the next level. No one is getting a look from a reputable scout because of their Tier 2 points published on a website. They get a look by word of mouth on their overall play and character.

PPE stats are accessible via Elite Prospects, just not on their home webpage.  And if you think scouts are not looking at stats then you would be dead wrong.  Look with a grain of salt?  Sure, but they do look at stats.
