You should probably say Most parents I know that have student athletes want their kids to play sports this fall. I would say most parents that do not have student athletes do not want it to happen.

That could very well be the case, but high school football will bring people together physically. That's a guarantee. You know people will be streaming the games and having neighborhood watch parties. The adults will be more likely to mess things up for youth sports than the kids. At least hockey isn't quite as popular so that stuff won't go on as much.

We actually do not want people to come together. We want them to stay apart. Especially those from separate communities. What he should have said: High school sports are a very important to these kids. They provide life lessons and physical & mental well-being...yada...yada. We are also committed to providing a safe environment for these athletes and protecting the community against the spread of Covid-19. We are willing to work with county health officials to put the proper protocols in place to make this happen.

To me "wrongdoing" translates to illegal and the police should be involved. It sounds like it's either related to stealing or abuse. The only other issue would be unfair bias toward a particular kids placement/ playing time. That would just fall under the the umbrella of typical youth sports politics as opposed to "wrongdoing". It goes on in every organization and we just have to deal with it the best we can.

I just don't understand the "This is good news" part. I say maybe it is but maybe it's not. To me... So many of these decisions are just a guess as far as the common citizen is concerned. Freedom is fantastic and I have always been so happy to live in a country that has more of it than any other country. I just feel that so many of us think that there is no way any government official should ever tell us what to do. In other words... Govern. Getting back to the subject of whether hockey will be postponed... I don't know if it will be & I don't know if it should be. It's hardly a black & white issue. It's complicated. I respect arguments on both sides, but I'm sick of the "better not take away any of my freedoms" stance. We have had many a crisis where we had to give up things. We had wars where we made our young people not just give up their favorite activity... But forced them to fight and risk & give up their lives to save us all as a nation. I like hearing what people think will happen and hear input on possible solutions but can we just get past this hard-line freedom to take whatever risks we want stance?

I was told that those Bantam cuts were made because they didn't have enough for the same amount of teams as they had last year. There were 5 or 6 players that were the odd men out.

Do you mean any organization that decided not to play? I have not heard of any local organization/team changing their plans, but participation is down. Last I heard it was down about 20% for one major organization. I am curious to know the exact numbers. I wish I had inside info on how many parents have decided to opt out.

My main argument is that we all want to live life as normal as possible. Your life and my life will not be that way until the virus is under control. We were getting to a better place (at least in Western PA) back in Mid-June. Then came the Green Phase. It was downhill from there because bars opened & people decided that partying was OK again. We wouldn't be having much of a debate about schools & sports now if the Green Phase had not gone so poorly. Things are getting better now, but still not great. It's very tenuous as we try to open schools and anticipate more indoor gatherings when the weather turns cold. It seems that youth sports are not much of a source for an outbreak originating, but could serve as a vector for more transmission as long as there is significant community spread. Most experts say that there is too much community spread until the test positivity rate is below 5% for a two week period. A little more hard work should get us below that number. Things seem to be moving in that direction and possibly get us there if the school re-openings go smoothly. Do I think that they will go smoothly? Probably not, but I am a pessimist. You want to jump in right now. I understand the impatience, It just seems like a case of pay now or pay more later. I would rather pay now. Obviously many people disagree as they have running credit card balances at a 20% interest rate,

I agree. I could see coaches just telling kids/parents to just lay low and not come to practice if feeling sick because testing positive could get their program shut down. These kids may never get tested but still have it. I doubt this situation would be common but it probably goes on a little. Also...Contact tracing isn't that reliable. There have been various news reports of people not cooperating with contact tracers. Some reports say that half the people won't give up locations/contacts. Obviously, these tactics won't work if there is a major outbreak, but it could be keeping these small clusters of 2 - 4 people from reaching the news. The problem is that these 2 - 4 people could be spreading to the community and never be traced back to the source.

That's true if Peter the Puck is making that stuff up. I am leaning toward thinking that it may be false info considering how poorly worded the post was. It would be disappointing but somewhat predictable if CV (or any other school) would try to cover up positive Covid-19 tests. I have heard a few stories of things like this happening in other organizations. None of them have been proven to be true so just rumors. I won't mention any of these organizations until the rumors are proven to be fact. I heard from a kid that the mask policy isn't really being enforced at one rink. They just wear them when they enter and take them off as they head to the locker room and swap germs in there before practice.

They don't need any guns. Governor said they can do what they want. Everything could work out well or they could end up on the wrong side of history. I think it's about a 50% chance of going either way. They just need to be willing to face the music if things turn out bad. That may include law suits if an outbreak gets traced to a sports program.

OK. I know we'll never totally agree on this stuff. I respect that and your point-of-view. You also can't convince people not to be scared. Life will never get back to normal as long as so many people are (perhaps unjustifiably) afraid. They are not going to get over their fears because you tell them to. Less people will be afraid when cases/deaths decrease. We need to find the best plan to make that happen as quickly as possible or you will continue to deal with strict rules about playing sports or any other aspect of life.

I hear what you are saying, but it's too early to just give up. Europe got the infection rate down so no reason we can't. We can buy some more time until we get better treatments and better testing or even a vaccine. Perhaps those things will never come, but I think that they will in the near future. I know that people are running out of patience. I understand that. It's hard, but most things that are rewarding are hard to accomplish. Let's not give up so fast. It's only been 5 months. Talk to me in March and I may agree that we just can't go on like this anymore.

Well, we can't simply accept that we will have 1,000 people per day die of this in this country. Many will say this it's mostly old people, so who cares. There are still a lot of people that do care. Life would not be nearly as good without all the old people in my life.

That makes sense. I give them credit for being cautious. My whole worry around letting these teams play is that the people in charge with throw caution to the wind. A lot of the rules/precautions seem sensible, but there is just so much rhetoric referring to how overblown & hyped the pandemic is.

Schools will be opening and more people will gather indoors as weather turns colder. There will be other common viruses circulating as well adding more confusion to the mix. I understand what you mean about avoiding panic, but recent history shows that slow reactions lead to major outbreaks. It's a fine line that I am not sure I trust many of those people involved to walk.

Just kicking the can down the road holding out slim hope that everyone can get their act together by then. The Fall season is going to be more of a challenge to avoid problems than the Summer has been.

You're just making the case stronger for those that would like to see the season be cancelled. I would like to see some form of a season with strict rules followed, but it's hard to convince myself that everyone will be on board with these rules. As a result, I would rather have the season to be, at least, delayed until January and see if there is any glimmer of hope at that point.

And you know there will be those that don't follow rules. That's the problem. That's also why it's so hard to get back to something close to normal. Almost nothing would need to be closed with masks, social distancing, hygiene & no parties. I applaud you for calling out the idiots. I just fear that those idiots will feel that you are getting in the way of their "freedom" and will be willing to fight for it.

I always kind of laugh at the temperature checks. I would really like to know how many people with fevers are actually trying to go anywhere at this point. Shame on them if they are. Temperature checks can't hurt, but it's a very weak layer of safety.

You're right, but I just don't see how their attorneys would advise them to keep going based on the states recommendation to stop. What would happen if there is an outbreak that gets linked to a serious illness or death? There will be legal ramifications. There will be more of a chance for outbreaks once schools start opening and people start gathering more indoors during colder weather. Things have been pretty quiet so far, but the fall will likely be different.
