The minimum headcount for real hockey
Wes replied to Jack Handey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I think that's something we're looking into and hope to get more clarification... -
A WORD TO THE WISE - DO NOT SPEED DOWN Route 22 FROM MURRYSVILLE. IT IS A SPEED TRAP!! Police routinely do speed monitoring on 22 all the way from Murrysville to Delmont. Many people have got tickets in that stretch.

I hope the Pahl just holds status quo and waits to see what happens between now and Oct. 1, but knowing some of the leadership there doesn’t make me have much faith in that.

@Quinlan2020 my son who’s in his last year of eligibility wants to play very badly, as he wants to build his resume to get on a good acha team next fall. So it is very important to him. He’s also practical in that if hockey is cancelled till 1/1, he’s going to work, play roller and dek hockey and do college courses. He will find other things to occupy his time. However he’d much rather be playing with his hockey buddies that he’s known for years. Cancelling hockey will hurt these aspiring college players, everyday kids who just enjoy the sport, Coaches and volunteers like me who enjoy getting out of the house and helping, and really hurt the rink owners.

The minimum headcount for real hockey

50 people in a 35 degree, 20,000 square foot building Equals a lot of social distancing.... -
Can we get the exact time for this? Thank you

Let's hear your predictions on what will happen to Western PA hockey if the PAHL does either if it's dumb proposed moves. 1) teams will play outside the PAHL, either locally or in WV or OH. I am highly interested in going this route. More on this later after the PAHL decision. 2) if cancelling till 1/1/21, kids will quit because they don't want to wait. Some kids will go to teams that opt to play outside the PAHL and do an independent schedule. Some will quit and play video games, work or play another sport. Some will quit entirely. My prediction is a significant #of players won't wait around till 1/1/21. 3) if going to 9 at a time on each side. Player losses as well here, not sure to the extend but I can see players leaving PAHL teams for other local teams who opt to play outside the PAHL. My guess is that Darcee and the rest of the PAHL board are way underestimating the effect that changing off of regular hockey will have on rosters across the PAHL.
-
What are teams outside of PGH in PA doing? What's going on in the Philly area? Has anyone from the PAHL even reached out to see what they're doing in different areas or is the PAHL going at this on it's own? Seems like the first course of action BEFORE changing to 1/1/21 or going to the silly 9 on 9 is trying to get all the hockey orgs onboard to request a change/exemption to 50-60 people inside a 17,000-20,000 square foot building just like the PIAA worked on. I'd rather delay a month and get this worked out than either Plan A or B. How do viruses spread at 40 degrees temperature anyways???

Agreed
-
Unfortunately our Gov. has seen to it that we the parents cannot make that decision this fall.
-
Any NP / Foxes families on here? Anyone happy about what their own orgs are proposing???
-
Another tip is that in addition to NP spearheading this movement, the Foxes/RMU are thought aligned with NP/Baierl and are driving this bus. When are some of the larger orgs going to stand up to this proposed fiasco? We have got to get our ORG Presidents to rebuke these idiotic proposals. I agree with the above poster, if this silly "9 at a time" thing is enacted, you will lose players off rosters quickly and that will damage hockey badly... 9 at a time is merely an attempt to MAKE MONEY for the rinks and orgs instead of shutting things down. It is NOT hockey. I don't know what it is, but how are you going to count mite like games as regular games??
-
Apparently nobody paid any attention to that. Our game was full team vs full team and no crowd limits in Westmoreland County.
-
Someone will have to address that... an anonymous tip came to me that NP due to Baierl limits is complaining the loudest that they have a 25 limit and therefore so should everyone else thereby pushing their views on everyone else. So why is it that ONE out of all the orgs bitches and moans and the PAHL acquiesces to them and makes everyone suffer??? If someone who is more a direct party to this all would post more details, that would be great.
-
Here are the docs from today's conference call. What I am hearing is that the NP Wildcats and Baierl rink are causing most of the problems and the push towards this stupidity, because they have limits at their rink. As far as I'm concerned they can FO and play their games somewhere else or not at all. Not sure how we're going to proceed this fall. This may cause a lot of kids to quit as not sure the money is worth it. What do you do, put your worst bunch out first and the best bunch out for the second half? Am I a little hot over this? You bet I am. One more year of this BS and I'm done with the PAHL!!!!! RULES 2021 PAHL_Game Play_25 max_DRAFT.pdf RULES 2021 PAHL_Proposals due to Covid-19_Voting.pdf

It would be nice if we the parents could make the decision on behalf of our family. This virus is no worse than any other one that mankind has faced, I will agree with that.
-
And so I must ask again, why the hell is DICKtator Wolf giving youth sports a problem when .001 percent of that age group are getting COVID? That’s less of a chance than getting the annual flu, cold, strep throat, etc. This is all such BS at the expense of our youth not getting a good education or physical activity, and all in the name of politics.
-
Had our game today. Zero restrictions at the rink (in Westmoreland county). Full teams on the benches. Ref on the ice and several parents in the stands. Nobody from the rink cracked down on anything.
-
Agree with all your replies but supposedly this is something new. I will try to find a written statement on this. we have a game today at 3pm so I guess we will see how that goes
-
Supposedly there is now a 25 person limit inside any rink. That ought to just about kill hockey for the time being.
-
Word has it that midam and USA hockey will be making a “ruling” this evening on the status of hockey this weekend and perhaps in the near future. I’m usually very optimistic but I don’t expect this to go well.

Gilmour Academy ~ handful of area kids
Wes replied to whatever's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Two former AAA girls that I have ties to (both female) were accepted to SSA to play on their prep girls team, but the "aid" package still would have cost both >$18k a year including boarding. Neither accepted as it was too expensive. Both were subsequently cut from PPE. The other 2-3 girls who were on their PPE team and accepted the SSA spot were kept on the PPE team. (At the time the head coach of PPE girls was also the head coach of SSA girls). -

I get what you're saying but 1 kid a year from the PGH area on the mens team? and about 0.5 girls a year locally on the Women's team is ridiculous.
