  1. Thanks Danner, it's a never ending battle.
  2. Vinnie doing too good as the Fog Whisperer. And that team you were talking about lost in the PA Championship game in 19-20. Vinnie, a former Plum player coached that team. And they have the right coach running the program now.
  3. Yes, and I was there for 15 seasons or so and we were good. But sometimes teams go thru a dry spell. Let's face it, sometimes the talent isn't there so you build from the ground up. Not many people want to take on that situation . I did watch Plum beat Fox Chapel using a strategy of icing the puck every time they could. Fox Chapel was all over them; outshot them like 65-15. But the strategy worked. Wait till they have more talented kids. And there is no shame in not having a winning season if you gave it your all every nite for a good coach. That's life. Small disappointments in sports are a great way to learn to deal with disappointment sure to come your way as you get older. It's part of what makes sports great.
  4. Can't resist! I coached the HC in high school, he worked for me and he coached with his two high school coaches at Pitt including myself. He left Pitt to coach Plum. He was absolutely the right coach to take over a struggling program. Maybe that's the reason the parents aren't happy about it. It's hard to win when the talent is in the young teams and harder to find a coach to take on the program knowing they'll be growing pains. My bet is a parent in the younger teams that does coach, thinks he can do a better job. This is just stupid. Unless there is something I don't know and I doubt it. I just hope this isn't political. Just one old man's opinion. And Danner, u should be able to figure who I am now. Not a Pitt parent.
  5. #23 IUP plays #15 Illinois St on 3/16 @ 4:45. IUP defeated Duquesne 3-2 in OT in semis and RMU 6-2 in CHMA finals. It's been a great season for the boys and I wish them luck at Nationals. #12 Pitt plays #5 Liberty on 3/18 @ 10:15. PITT won the ESCHL regular season championship to secure auto bid and beat #18 Stonybrook 4-2 in semis and #10 Niagara 8-2 in finals of ESCHL playoffs. An example of the problem with awarding the auto bid to a leagues playoff winner is #58 Buffalo having a magical weekend and winning the auto bid in the NECHL. You're not getting the best team from your league representing your conference. Nationals are in Marlborough, Mass.
  6. Just when I thought I was out; Danner, you pulled me back in. A few facts regarding your comments about ACHA and Pitt. 1. PITT won the CHMA regular season championship 4 out of the last 5 years Pitt was in the league. After the 1st 2 years, the league decided to give the automatic bid to the playoff winner rather than the regular season champ. The handwriting was on the wall as Pitt went 26-1-1 in league the last 2 years. 2. ACHACHA M1-semantics, why does it bother you? 3. There is not a player on the Pitt roster that came to Pitt just to play hockey. They came to get a good education AND play hockey. 4. The cost to play hockey at Pitt this year was completely funded by sponsors and fundraising. Includes jerseys, shells, gloves, helmets, equipment bags, warm up windsuits, travel, hotels and food on the road, sticks, etc. 5. If a game in the ACHA is tied after regulation it goes into the computer as a tie. Has always been that way 6. There is no political or parental interference at Pitt. Well there Danner, I fixed it for you. Know the facts b4 you criticize a program that people have worked hard to build. You can fact check any of this.
  7. Two teams in Western PA becoming top ACHA programs are IUP (ranked 19th and 8-0 in the CHMA) and Pitt. ( ranked 9th and 7-0-1 in the ESCHL) So there are some programs that a
  8. I'm pretty sure it's the job of the home team in the CHMA and the CHE to forward game sheets to the ACHA. I might be wrong....
  9. So what do you all consider an elite ACHA team. Top 5? 10? 15? And most people playing or coaching will tell you that they play ACHA D1 club. Noone understands M1. Stigma attached to D1 club doesn't realize that some club teams practice 3 days/week, give up weekends and partying on Thursday and Friday cause they're serious about playing. And really; who cares if a kid plays juniors a year to make a BETTER club team that takes hockey seriously. So he retires at 66 instead of 65. By the time these kids turn 65, they may not be able to retire anyways the way things are going.
  10. I think you have alot of knowledge to pass on but you are so negative about it. Everyone has to learn for themselves. One other thing; I can guarantee you that there isn't and hasn't been any parental interference at Pitt. It's college for crying out loud, kids would be pissed and embarrassed if their parents interfered. And they would be gone! That is 100% wrong. Take that as the gospel. Danner, parents are looking for guidance; people like us can help them w/o squashing their hopes.
  11. "Good but not good enough" so freaking what? Jeez, didn't u get hugged enough as a kid. You might be the most negative person I've ever come across. And you're right, I am a parent; of a 41 yr old. I am pretty sure I know who you are and part of the reason I started this post is because last spring when I posted about Pitt going to Nationals your comments were " they play in a weak conference, can't compete with the big boys, etc. So I knew when I posted about this u would have something negative to say and u never disappoint. People, do what u think is best for your kids, please don't listen to the negative stuff on here. Make your own decisions, spend YOUR $ how u want. Enjoy traveling with your kids and enjoy watching them play. Keep in mind that there are more neurosurgeons in the US then proffesional hockey players. And if your son plays ACHA in college hope that he plays at a local college so u can watch him/her play the game they love no matter if it's M1,2 or 3. Geez Danner, don't poison these people with your negative , know everything BS. BTW, why don't you tell us how your son's career ended. Lighten up bud!
  12. With Pitt joining the ESCHL there will be 5 teams that were ranked in the top 25 at the end of last season and Drexel had a down year. In the CHMA there was one: Pitt. Also, the CHMA is the only conference in D1 that sends its playoff winner to Nationals. Pitt was 26-1-1 in the regular season the last 2 years they played.
  13. Pitt has left the CHMA to go the ESCHL. 24 of Pitt's 30 games this season will be against teams that were ranked in the top 25 at some point last year or qualified for Nationals including defending champ Lindenwood and perennial powerhouse's Adrian and Stonybrook.
  14. My bad, didn't mean to re-post that. Yea, I haven't seen any top D3 teams play but Grand Valley State lost 4-3 to eventual runner up Michigan in round of 8 and they have a D1 team that was ranked 41st behind JCU, IUP, RMU. and Pitt. Have to believe that's their top team but who knows
  15. Danner? To be clear; you think that the final 8 teams in M3 are better than M1 #13 Pitt? I respect your knowledge about hockey but have you even seen any of the top CHMA teams play lately? Just wondering.
  16. Danner? To be clear; you think that the final 8 teams in M3 are better than M1 #13 Pitt? I respect your knowledge about hockey but have you even seen any of the top CHMA teams play lately? Just wondering.
  17. All info, teams, date & times, and brackets can be found on ACHA D1 twitter.
  18. In some local good news, Pitt was selected as an at large team and is seeded 13th at Nationals and will lay Navy in the first round. Pitt beat Navy twice during the regular season. 13th is the highest a CHMA team has ever been seeded in a year not affected by Covid. 15 of Pitts top 16 scorers, 4 of top 6 D, and one of three goalies are all Pittsburgh born. Nice accomplishment. JCU is seeded 19th and will play Maryville.
  19. Spear, not entirely true about all local ACHAM1 teams. PITT is ranked 14th in M1 and finished ranked 20th 2 years ago. Didn't play last year. Think you would be surprised if you went to watch them.
