  1. Given the uncertain economic status of the times, I would think that a good bit of parents won't be able to afford two teams this season. I could see a decline in middle school players in pihl, and could see second year bantams and midgets opting to play on the school team if given an ultimatum. The lack of older pahl teams may end up opening up more ice for the school teams.

So, since it's sort of an added cost to play I just posted here in lieu of starting another thread. It was nice to see an email yesterday that in the midst of all of this you could count on Posey to make sure that you knew he and PIA were still open to accept your money for his tune-up camps. Damn the Covid-19, full speed ahead.

How else is your elite squirt gonna make the big show?

The Excel kids attend NC on an abbreviated schedule, not unlike kids at public school who go to Vo-tech, if you think about it. I doubt the students really care if they are “acknowledged for the success of the players that attend their school“. NC has many other sports to be proud of including their current PIHL team. What the Excel kids do probably isn’t even on their radar.

..... and believe it or not, it's a good school, hence kids that have quit Excel stick around. It's not pihl hockey keeping them there, it's a quality education with a lot to offer. As far as sports at the school, Football does and always will reign supreme.

NC has 575 total students; let's assume half are boys and round to 300 to be conservative. You're saying a school with 300 boys has 18-20 18U AAA/Prep-level hockey players without the help of Excel and/or Pens Elite recruiting them? Seems like a long shot. Also, if that were the case, NC wouldn't be playing PIHL A hockey.

What are you talking about? That's not at all what I said. Did you even read what I said?  @twoboys understood it.

By that logic, Excel should have sent the school team down the tubes from the get go...it didn’t.  It’s growing.

People seem to have a difficult time grasping the concept that there are actually a good number of hockey players in this school, good hockey players, that aren't in Excel, and have been in the program before Excel ever existed. It's a school just like any other school. Neither Excel or the Pittsburgh Penguins define North Catholic Ice Hockey. If Vincention or Eden Christian Academy were a mile and a half away from the rink instead, you can bet they would be the ones hosting Excel, and North Catholic would still have a hockey program.

You are confusing all of us with your responses.

Anyway you look at it, the most talented players will still play for the PPE and Esmark.    The others will apparently have a choice.  Play for the new team, prep, if that’s what they are going to call it.  Or, play for the NC high school Varsity or JV.  Those three+ (plus because people still have a choice to not play for any team related to NC or Excel) teams are made up of 70+ players.  Are there 70 ice hockey players that attend NC?  Not sure where all these players are coming from.  Plus, again, the talent just isn’t there.  Not when you subtract the elite players off the list. A major at best.  Give it 6-8 years and maybe it will evolve into a hockey power house.

@RegDunlop7 your last paragraph is what will happen.  However, I do disagree with how good you think St Ignatius is.  They may not schedule with the best teams, as they should, but they are a pretty darn good team.  Excel Prep will be scheduling games with the same Pihl A teams that NC is playing now.  Not Prep!!!

Just to set the record straight, North Catholic Ice Hockey and Excel Academy are two completely different entities.  One is run by the school and a board of parent volunteers, the other is run by the Pittsburgh Penguins. If any Excel kids wish to play for the school team, they are welcome to do so, as long as they can clear pihl's requirements.

It's laughable to even think that a Pens Elite team is going to schedule games against local pihl teams, especially pihl A teams.
