I applaud Alpha for letting the games be played with regular rosters. I think we all know, by now, that there isn’t going to be much of a difference, in terms of risk, with regular rosters. On the other hand... I also think Alpha is incompetent for letting parents in. Especially with people coming in from outside the state. Turn live barn on and keep the parents out. Nobody cares what is going on at Alpha, nobody is interested in watching Vengeance practices. Seemingly every rink in Pittsburgh has the cameras on, there’s nothing revolutionary going on - on Alpha’s ice pads. Turn the cameras on and let parents get their fix that way. Please stop letting all of these people in your rink, and potentially ruining it for everyone.

The O line a D grappling in football, receivers and D. A batter being at the plate for 2-3 minutes at times. Or a runner on 1st for 4-5 minutes. Hockey, especially now days is usually 1-3 seconds of random contact with another player. The game is just too fast.

Trying to be as unbiased as possible. A basketball court is significantly smaller than an ice rink, the “zones” are significantly smaller than that of hockey. There fore you have significantly less space available, and more players crammed in to one area. Basketball is also a stop and go game. A player will stop with the ball for 10 seconds if he wants, while a defender gets in close trying to disrupt the play... all the while, everyone else on the court is following everyone else around as closely as possible. Hockey has its moments of close contact, but they’re are largely brief. It’s mostly quick movement in and out of another players atmosphere, save for net front battles and tying up along the boards. These two games are not comparable in risk, if we are talking about contact and exposure to another person. Basketball parents becoming upset under a scenario where hockey can be played, and basketball cannot isn’t worth their time. Actually, in terms of “Limited exposure time”... hockey may rank a head of every team sport. Football, baseball, basketball are all close contact for significant amounts of time.

Just do line changes from the emergency exits.. honestly. Set up a little plastic tunnel leading to a tent on the outside , throw a warmer in there and get on with it. This would work at most rinks. 10 on the ice, 2 goalies, 2 refs, 2 coaches and the next line up waits on bench or at the closest rink door.

It may be time for someone to start thinking about building a few outdoor pads similar to the multiple outdoor facilities in Buffalo. Especially being there is no end in sight, and some saying this could go on for a few years (virus situation). You could throw up a covered outdoor rink in what, a month and a half? Level the lot, build 1/4 a warehouse (steel pillars and roof) then pour the concrete.

- I don’t know if they “worry much” or not about pre-bantam players. If they admit that, they deserve credit. Because no prep school, junior program, college organization, semi-pro team, or pro team ever gave the slightest minuscule shit what a player can do or did in squirt and Pee-Wee hockey. Squirt and Pee-Wee hockey is roller hockey on ice skates. I wouldn’t go as far to say it “doesn’t matter” but it’s certainly not the game the older kids and pros are playing, not by any stretch. - There is 1 birth year there who had a few pens kids come over. And it’s not fair to anyone to discuss the intimate details of that so we’ll leave it at that. The talent pool here isn’t large enough to fill out rosters with kids who are at the top of their age groups at the moment. Neither the Pens, nor the Vengeance are able to do this. - In regards to parents complaining at PPE. Yes, probably. Everyone’s kid is a superstar. With that said, let’s not pretend like these conversations aren’t going on in every rink in America, at every organization in America. Excel is usually the topic du jor, and it’s a valid topic. Not every parent has the resources or time to place their kid(s) in this program and some fear it might work against their kid. Whether that’s valid or not, I cannot say. - I haven’t heard of anyone buying a spot at the Vengeance. I just think there are birth years there that have parents of certain players crossing boundaries. Yet the Vengeance let it happen so they keep the kid, and the cliques by proxy. The Pens losing a few kids to the Vengeance is not that significant to the Pens, honestly, they’ll just recruit out of town and bring in kids. The Vengeance losing a few kids to the Pens is a different story. - I have no direct knowledge of anyone working at the Penguins and being run out, of that actually happened, or if it’s nonsense. What I can say is that the Pens have a sharp staff up there, who aren’t running side gigs, and are invested in their respective teams. As far as being buddies, again I don’t know those dynamics, but who really gives a shit as long as the service they are providing is of value? - The director of operations up there is about as solid and fair of an individual you’re going to find in not only youth hockey, but youth sports. Again, I don’t care if he used to ride the school bus with Crosby, if he’s doing right by Pens kids then who really cares where, why, what or how? To my knowledge, he’s the longest tenured director up there to date, must be doing something right. - It is not the Pens, nor Vengeance, nor any youth programs job to “get kids to the NHL”. Their responsibility lies with giving kids the opportunity to improve themselves as hockey players, so that they are in a position to get interest from junior teams, prep schools etc. The Pens aren’t their to wave a magic wand and turn your kid into Bryan Rust.

Going to end this debate before it takes up 19 pages. The Pens do an overall great job with these kids. However you can visit any program in America and find parents who have gripes. Like being a human on this earth, not everyone is going to like you based upon how they perceive reality. It’s a fact of life. What I will say is the Vengeance folks should really just focus on their program instead of the near constant obsession and attempts at “one upping” what goes on in Cranberry. There are a few people who come here and stir the pot about the Pens, to which I say, there is a a treasure trove of things we could talk about with SOME of the Vengeance people and SOME of the birth years down there... Yet I never see Pens parents, Pens employees or anyone else for that matter.. looking to air laundry on here or in general conversation around rinks. It’s always the Vengeance pens complex that gets the conversations started. And people, even those of us who may have had kids at Pens, kids at Pens currently, or kids never even involved with Pens are tired of hearing it. If you want to talk about it though, some of us are willing to get into some finite detail of what goes on at the Vengeance regarding some of their processes for creating teams and SOME of the parents having influence. disclaimer: there are some great hockey people involved at Vengeance. No blanket statements above. With that said, nobody cares about NHL players coaching. You cannot say the Pens are selling dreams, and in the same vein, tout that the Vengeance have NHL players for coaches. I don’t have any experience with the former players there, but if you really want to talk about who’s selling dreams.. The Vengeance are practically taking out billboards advertising this. Whether or not these NHL’rs are good coaches isn’t for me to say, I certainly hope they are and that them being a “great coach” benefits the Vengeance kids. Playing in the NHL doesn’t automatically equate to teaching youth players skills and game play though, so again, if you want to talk about selling dreams...

This is all absolute horse shit. The Pens are practicing per usual, and have been. If I was a betting man, I would bet you’re one of the Veng’ and friends (Vengeance). With your throbbing raging hard ons you have for the Penguins and their staff. You nerds sit around and concoct fictional detail after fictional detail about everything and anything relating to the folks in Cranberry. Meanwhile you guys are down there letting parents create rosters and call shots. Everyone in Pittsburgh is sick of your Pens Complex. Even people outside the pens.

Some of these districts took parental “surveys” to see if they should open or not. Talk about stupid. This country is just one train wreck after another anymore. It’s not only politics (both sides). It’s the every day, vanity and self serving culture of society. Every single one of us knows this school situation is going to end up slamming in to an ice burg... cracking in half and sinking. Half the ship has given up and doesn’t care, the other half is pretending the ice burg doesn’t exist.

I would venture to guess that every single pre-caution schools are taking in their buildings will be negated by the buses. If the buses are to operate as normal, and I don’t see how they could operate any different. Opening schools is quite possibly the dumbest thing this country could do. I realize the effects it has on people’s work situations... but this is what it is. We are managing the situation well enough right now. Cases are there but the majority of us are able to get on with life, albeit different. Think about it, how many different people are you coming into close contact with daily. Probably not that many for the majority of us. Yet, we are going to send kids into a building with hundreds, sometimes thousands of other kids/humans daily/bi-daily and expect it to work? Why even attempt this? We all know what is going to happen. It’s going to turn into a shit show. Covid will pop up in the school, parents are going to freak out and keep kids home etc. Yes we all understand that kids for the large part, do not suffer the same consequences as adults. The issue, that the nay sayers cannot wrap their heads around is the fact that kids get it, maybe don’t have down time from it, but still spread it. Opening schools will not be looked at favorably in the history books. This is a collective stupidity though, and it’s going to take a district or two getting hammered by the virus for people to get it unfortunately.

Are you wrong for thinking this is a bunch of non-sense? Maybe not? We don’t have enough data to make that determination yet. Data meaning real, vital, data... not the data conjured up from Tucker Carlson’s producer. BUT can’t we all just do the simple ass things that are being asked... so we, and most importantly, the kids can fly under the radar? or are we so fucking egocentric that we can’t help ourselves. We just have to let everyone know where we stand?

Taking the governors feelings out of the equation. Sports could easily happen and probably go largely unscathed in regards to virus spread. The problem remains, for every coach and organization that is just doing the right thing, following guidelines. You have 5 other shit heads who are letting their personal beliefs and “muh freedoms” get in the way of common sense. The parents and the freedom fighters are the problem. Make no mistake. If Tom Wolf knew that there wouldn’t be an orgy of parents at high school football games, or youth hockey games, I promise you sports wouldn’t even be on the states radar. I digress, once again, the freedom fighters, the “patriots”, the coaches, the parents who are looking to “make a point” over what is best for the players are the sole reason why sports is at risk. As always, you can have your beliefs, you may even be right about them. Who knows? The FACT of the matter is the governing AUTHORITY feels a certain way about the situation and they are calling the shots. So you can either check your ego and do the strenuous, time consuming, death grappling task of wearing a mask, social distancing, not letting parents conduct their orgies... NOT DRAW ATTENTION TO THE YOUTH SPORT ATMOSPHERE. Or we can all continue to run around ignoring the states demand, grunting “merica”... and see what happens.

I do not understand how anyone could “cancel” youth/school sports... when they will be cramming 200-2k kids into a building for school. How does 80 or so kids, 10 coaches and 4 refs standing on a football field outdoors even scrape the surface of risk... compared to sardines in a can (school classrooms and hallways). Without bias, the risk with 25 people indoors is minuscule compared to 2k teenagers in a high school. So if we are going to go all out and open schools, cancelling sports just seems like some kind of PR move. At the very least, teams should be able to do intra squad activities until there’s a better window to play real games.

This is precisely why youth sports is at risk. Because there is a large segment of society who are not intelligent enough to “do the small stuff” (I.e. wear a mask, social distance, look like you are trying). Wherever you stand on the issue, your personal belief is your personal belief. However, you are a gigantic douche nozzle if you are a football coach, or any other coach, and you are not following protocol. This is equivalent to resisting the police. We all know the power trip some of those guys get on. So you play it cool and follow along, don’t escalate the situation with Officer Beatsmywife. Same premise. I digress, there are just too many low IQ delinquents out there to not draw attention to youth sports. They do not step back and think, if we stay out of the limelight and follow protocol... we could fair a lot better than running around the AstroTurf making out with each other every time someone catches the ball. Parents can’t help themselves. They see Joe and Mitch partying in the parking lot... we’ll we are going to be cool too. No way, these coaches need to be bad asses. And they’re going to show everyone how badass they are. Resisting the government, getting youth sports cancelled for the direction of this and by proxy turning our kids into a bunch of video game e-sports stars.

Oh, forgive me for not knowing the ECHL is nicknamed the jungle. My kids haven’t made it that far yet, when they do, I’ll make sure they don’t end up scouring youth hockey forums for details about people’s children.. Is that common in the jungle? Frequenting youth hockey forums? Update: And this guy is full of it... no 17 year old is playing in the ECHL. He’s absolutely referring to some 18th tier Junior league in Canada, which he didn’t even play in. Final conclusion: 1&done, who turned out to be about 250&done, at our expense, is officially done. And even if at some point, a relevant league was nicknamed “the jungle”. Your try hard attempt at referencing it as such is all we need to know in regards to the fact that you never played in it. Or the desert. Or the Tundra. You’re most likely some never was been selling snake oil to mite parents. That or a momo, on here trying to find information about people’s children.
