Alpha ice live barn question
hockeyisgreat replied to GrumpyOldPucker's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Why do they feel the need to block practices? No other rink I know of does that. -
Don't you think the majority of kids playing nowadays have parents who played hockey? I'll bet it's close to 75 percent. No facts just what I see. Mom's yell the loudest! Dad's get on the Refs more. Just my opinion!
-
Interesting! Do you think those Parents, Parents were the same way when they were little? Is there any hope for this generations kids to be better sports parents or is this a self perpetuating phenomenon.

Hunt Armory Ice Rink

Well that sure sounds like a tie in! Makes more sense why the Pens are involved I guess. -
Hunt Armory Ice Rink

I believe the actual date to open is closer to December. November 26th I read somewhere. I thought I heard that Central Catholic was going to use this rink for practice. Not sure if that is true but I think Central has some tie ins to the Pens. -
HAHA that would be pretty funny!

Hunt Armory Ice Rink

Any word on this project? Is it still on schedule to be open in November? Haven't heard or seen anything! -
True but in that case you get what you pay for. Playing in PAHL is probably half the cost of the others. That's where private lessons etc kick in for kids and parents who want to aspire to higher levels. If I had it to do all over again I might start mine at PPE. But how do you know haw serious a child is going to be about hockey at 5 or 6 years old to travel to Cranberry when you can play down the street for fun.

I got you but programs who do have all those things. Who does the best at developing players? I see the big 3 North Pittsburgh, Allegheny and SCIR. Then Preds, Mt Lebo and SHAHA all in no particular order. Is there historical data as to what orgs have won the most PAHL championships?

Interesting, Who do you think are the organizations "making" players? Taking geography out of it who do you think does the best job of developing players?

Greensburg Salem High School Tournament 2021
hockeyisgreat replied to Pa Hockey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Wow, Somebody with some Hockey coverage. I couldn't find anything on line about this Tournament. Thanks for the coverage. I assume the final will be at Kirk Nevin and they have Live Barn. -
Wow, I see a lot of constructive points of view from people who have lived through it. Their points are valued by me for sure as my kid navigates through hockey in Western Pa. I give him advice and let him tryout where he wants. Has yet to make his first choice but it hasn't stopped him from trying. I know he's not going anywhere great but I hope he never loses his passion for the sport cause he sure has that.
-
So what AAA teams would you let your kid try out for? Only Pens Elite? If he's not good enough to play for them just let him play PAHL? Could be hard to get a 13 to 15 year old that has been one of the better PAHL players to understand that. Especially when he sees all the kids he grew up playing with and against playing for the so-called FAUX AAA teams. This is all so interesting. Sure not like other High School sports.
-
Does that mean you should stop them from trying? Shouldn't I let my player pursue his dream? As long as it's his dream? I don't think I should be the one to tell him he's not good enough. He needs to figure it out on his own. I would assume that's what happened to the kids whose parents are giving us advice on here. And maybe it never happened for kids like Sherry & Guetzel!

Has anyone heard of any appeals? Any appeals games on Sunday? Are Appeals Hearings automatically granted?
-
Are you saying that USPHL will take anyone willing to pay? Do you know at what age do kids age out of that league? I guess I could try to look it up. Bottom line it sounds like we are much better off to save our money (to pay for college) and let the kids play whatever PAHL team they can make. But what if the kid really wants to pursue Jr Hockey? Not the parents? How much will it cost over 4 or 5 years. Ballpark. Anyone with ideas of costs? Thanks

District Playoffs 2022 dates
hockeyisgreat replied to Jack Handey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
HAHA right up there with the worst ever. Almost seems like they try to hide the info! If it's there at all. -
Thanks for sharing your opinions and insight. I thought that is what a forum is for. To share info, experience, and opinion. This would be a really boring place if everyone agreed on everything.

From what I have heard the placement committee is very thorough in their reviews before they place teams. When in question they review all the players on a team as to previous playing experience. I would think the hardest placements are in squirt and you are pretty much left to an associations assessment of the teams. It's a big job I wouldn't want to do!
