  1. …Because a kid who was the backup last year as a junior quit. Forgot about that? Also, 8 seniors on Montour this season. Last season QV played the entire season with 1 goalie who was a freshman.
  2. This is simply not the way it works, anywhere for any sport. There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is school tax revenue created by single family households. This is actually part of the reason that Aliquippa has had to play “up” in football… too many students moving into the district. Let’s remember that Montour got moved down to “A” BEFORE this player was on the roster and probably used the “our goalie graduated” as one of the reasons for their case to move down.
  3. Parent: “hey coach, did you know that a player from Ohio is billeting with a family in our district and playing AAA hockey. We should get him to play on our varsity team” Coach: “well, that would be great, but it is against the rules, and for good reason. If it were allowed, schools and teams would be able to essentially roster players from anywhere, as long as they were billeting. For example, imagine if every AAA player who billets was also able to roster on a high school team. That would create unfair competition, especially at the A level, and especially since the divisions are determined by the previous season result and roster information submitted by each school.” parent: “ok, thanks for clarifying that. It makes sense” Open…shut.
  4. QV didnt face those kind of roster issues: ended the season with 14 skaters (grades 9 through 12, 6 of whom were freshmen). No JV.
  5. Wait a second… the other goalie… .836 save percentage gave up 4 goals each time he started vs Wheeling Park (who won zero total games) played the majority of his games vs the bottom teams Lost to QV 4-1 in his only start vs a team that made the playoffs so, um, not really “pretty solid”
  6. Who has lived in the district his whole life. Apples, rotten oranges
  7. So now that it is Districts and such, since he was just “playing for fun”, he won’t be the goalie for them in the PIHL playoffs. You know, since he just did it for fun, right?
  8. PPE coaches for all boys AND girls teams for 2023-24: 100% male 100% white “Hockey is for everyone (except anyone else but white guys if you want to coach here)”
  9. But current USA hockey registrations of kids age 8-12 has little correlation. What were the district participation trends over the past decade? That would be a better stat to compare
  10. I am not sure how kids born in 2009-2014 (half of the counted registrations) has anything to do with college freshman. What if this chart was based on USA hockey registrations from when these current freshmen were 8U? Wouldn’t that show more of an accurate record of development? I realize that it’s impossible to track kids moving from district to district as they age, but this chart is an oversimplification.
  11. Like a youth hockey small scale version of this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_Football_Group
  12. They also sometimes have to worry about coaching back to back to back to back games during a showcase weekend, or even show up right as games start because of a previous game of the other team they are coaching. SO professional.
  13. I think you meant to say “Kathy Pippy makes double the money and gets double Marriott points on their travel”
  14. What does that even mean? Look around the country and see what happens when sports are opened up to all socio-economic groups (football, basketball, and now soccer): white athletes become less and less successful. golf, tennis, lacrosse, hockey: rich white people sports.
  15. The secret that no one talks about with hockey and lacrosse: rich white people like it how it is because they know that if there was equal opportunity from a young age and all the way up, their nominally athletic kids would get replaced by black kids. Soccer in our nation at the highest level is finally improving on the world stage bc our best players are finally diverse (mainly non-white).
  16. It would be interesting to see the MHR of teams that made it out of Pool Play at Nationals in the past few years.
  17. Name a girl FROM Pittsburgh that has had a SUCCESSFUL Division 1 hockey career WITHOUT one of the following: - Selects Academy - Shadyside Academy - participating in a Spring/Summer tour with Pippy - spent time at another hockey boarding school Pens Elite Girls take credit for girls that got rostered, played for a year wearing the jersey, and never once stepped foot into UPMC for “training”.
  18. “what PPE, and some of the original influences in the girls side from Pittsburgh, has done for girls hockey is something we can be proud of. ” Thats a joke, right?
  19. Erie - 2100 in grades 9-12 Norwin - 1600 in grades 9-12 Single A???
  20. Only 1 Pens Elite team, U14, won. Is this the least number of Pens Elite teams to win Mid Ams? Must be.
  21. After this weekend they will drop outside of top 10. If you look at rankings , historically, midget teams ranked 11-15 are NOT guaranteed an at-large
  22. Even though they just beat Barons, and Pens lost to Barons.
