Ethics in youth sports? The lessons that some parents teach their kids these days is awful. Not all, but enough. Don’t blame the kids, it’s the parents that disappoint the most.

All the years traveling with my oldest around the country, my experience - the majority of parents yelling at refs & other parents were drinking. Heck, a parent I was very friendly with who never said much - one game he had a few beers. Embarrassed his own kid and got tossed. I’m not saying this is the case for every parent causing problems during a game, just in my experience alcohol seemed to be a major contributor.

Most of the rinks block school hockey practice sessions, too. The programs are allowed to ask them to. I have noticed that it pays to wait for games at Alpha. For games that start between half hours, like 9:10 PM, for instance, it's not at all uncommon for it to still be locked at 9:00 but unlock a minute or two before game time, or even shortly after the game starts. It's frustrating but if you keep trying you'll often get in to watch the games after all.
