  1. How many coaches? I guess 2? and one referee to make it 25 people on the ice?
  2. Did you see Paul Zeise's piece on this? Nothing's going to be different in January. In fact, it will be worse since it will be peak flu and cold season. No way there will be college football then. https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/paul-zeise/2020/08/11/Spring-college-football-is-the-latest-idiotic-idea-in-a-year-of-idiocy/stories/202008110125?cid=search
  3. Big problem Pitt has with hockey is it's seen as competition for NCAA basketball. Way back when the Petersen Events Center was built, there was some noise about the Penguins paying for it to have ice capacity, possibly as a temporary home while a new arena was being built, and the idea was shot down. No one was more upset than the Pitt athletic department when the Penguins did not move to Kansas City or where ever they were going to end up. They are probably right too, attendance at 'the Pete' is not nearly as good when the basketball team isn't winning.
  4. I have heard several districts in the South Hills - Bethel Park, Peters, Char Valley, Keystone Oaks among them - are planning on in person instruction, 5 days a week this fall. I think they may just be waiting for the governor to shut them down so they can say they aren't the bad guys though.
  5. I got emails from the Ice Castle and Baierl to remind me to wear a mask. I have not been in either rink lately, but have been in rinks in the early part of June and not seen a whole lot of adherence to the signs posted about mask wearing and whatnot. It is possible those rules are being enforced a bit more now.
  6. Just got a message stating ice castle is closed until July 10. Anyone else hear this?
  7. Which rinks, if I may ask? Assuming one is Alpha, probably one is Castle of Ice, what's the third? Is there ice at the YMCA in Bethel?
  8. My experience wasn't as good. In my opinion, this was a thing way back when most rinks were closed in the summer and there weren't spring teams and tryouts in the spring as well as summer practices. Now that hockey is more or less year-round, the time and expense for a 3 game tournament is a relic of days past. Other sports in the Keystone State Games allow team entry, probably just a matter of time before hockey does so as well.
  9. Just saw something interesting - the May 13th update states that the Mt. Lebanon rink will be melting their ice (unclear if they had ice at this point) and it will be down until at least August 1. I thought I saw another post somewhere (and memory might be failing me here) saying Southpointe/Printscape Arena also has no ice. Any other rinks melt their ice? http://www.mtlebanon.org/3460/Coronavirus-COVID-19
  10. Anyone else been around long enough to remember when tryouts every year were Aug/September?
