  1. It must be a shame to go through life being an ignorant @sshole. Player should be banned the rest of the season and next. Sadly, that does nothing to change the mind of a racist, sexist, or homophobe... but at least it's some kind of accountability.
  2. Shut the entire program down? You're nuts. That accomplishes nothing that just suspending the kids who threw punches does. I'll go further and say kids trying to break it up? They should get no punishment.
  3. I would say that if the league suspended your player a game for merely telling the ref to "end the damn game", that's enough- and seems like a bit much, honestly. The org taking it upon itself to add another game to it seems unnecessary. And if they haven't done that to every person who has gotten a game misconduct that's sending the wrong message. If they have rules like that, then they should be consistent. Otherwise, they may as well not even have them.
  4. Somebody claimed a player punched a shaler coach, then quit the team. Do you know if that's true?
  5. Who made the decision for the organization to give their own suspension? The MS coach? Varsity coach? Athletic Director? So they do that at MS level, but let Varsity do whatever they want? Sounds unorganized.
  6. Was this caught on livebarn? I'd love to see it. Who won? The game, not the fights.
  7. Not true. Any time we play Foxes or Indiana or Altoona... the atmosphere is totally different than when playing those teams I mentioned. It carries over to the school teams, too. Get enough players and parents from those teams I mentioned on the same school teams, and they act the same way. Obviously it's not every single parent or player- just enough to make those teams miserable. And who said anything about banning organizations or canceling youth hockey? Only you did. Get a grip.
  8. It's the parents/culture there (and a few other teams), and they start that way while they're young. I hate playing SHAHA, Allegheny, Predatators, and Erie teams- they're just like that. Couple that with the fact that Yetis/Icemen is a landing pad for the disgruntled, and you had a recipe for disaster.
  9. So I agree with what you're saying. That said, at that age, some kids don't listen well. Some kids are slow (physically slow but putting out effort is one thing, lack of effort is another), or not good shots, or make bad decisions. After all reasonable coaching efforts are made to improve that player, ice time is the next motivator. If you can't put in maximum effort and getting beat to the puck constantly or trying to skate through as many opposing players as you can before turning the puck over or you continue to be out of position or take too long of shifts or blindly throw the puck around- you shouldn't be taking ice time from those that are not doing these things. If so-and-so knows coach will put them out just the same as the kid who's blocking shots, racing to pucks, making hard passes, and they can continue to not play to maximum ability, there is no incentive to do any different. Yeah, that kid should be sitting more of the game than the kid who's working hard. Anything different is not fair to the kids who are busting their asses. It's okay to just want to play hockey and have a good time without getting too serious and getting the same ice time as everyone else- that's why there's in-house leagues. And to clarify, I'm not talking about players who just aren't as gifted as others, I'm talking players who aren't putting effort in. If maximum effort is being used, then that's a completely different story.
  10. This is what the Pavel Barbers' of YouTube and tik tok have brought upon us. Now I'm not blasting the guy or saying the entertainment that kind of stuff gives is worthless... but in a real game of hockey, it is practically worthless. Excessive value put on individual carnival skills. Translates into over-stick handling, weaving in and out of the opposing players until the puck inevitably gets turned over, and pretty much no focus on puck support. On of the 14u teams my kid plays for has the most excruciatingly boring practices you'll ever see. But they're all in position during their games, and have a winning record so far largely because of it. Oh, and how much practice time to you ever see given to faceoffs, and who is to do what depending on what happens whether it's won or lost? How much practice time is given to utilizing the points in the offensive zone? Probably close to zero on both. Probably literally zero, actually, on the faceoffs.
  11. I'm starting to wonder if USA Hockey has taken management classes from the catholic church? A player abuses a billet child, and you remove him from the home and that's all? They say they spoke to both sets of parents, but no accusations were made? Well then what led to speaking to both sets of parents?? Yet, you and I need a background check and safes port training to work the penalty box in public? https://www.google.com/amp/s/ca.sports.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/nhl-reid-boucher-pleads-guilty-to-sex-crime-involving-12-year-old-girl-021631438.html
  12. Thanks for posting. That was a nice write-up. He sounds like a really great guy.
  13. Sorry if I misunderstood you. Mostly we're on the same page.
  14. You're right. They're all perfect. Even the ones who stood by while a female child was sexually harassed during a game. Neat.
  15. It has nothing to do with me keeping "wanting to complain" about officiating. If you noticed, I noted there are a lot of great refs and perfectly officiated games. They're making 50-some bucks a game, just do the job. I've seen everything from putting the wrong player in the box, to faceoffs in the wrong place on the ice. A lot of them could do much better. And by the same token some of them go above and beyond to do a good job and not let their own ego get in the way. And as mentioned above, yeah, parents are obnoxious sometimes. They should be warned, then tossed.

  17. Yeah I've been unsure myself, and a study I saw said it didn't make a huge difference with some of them. BUT that was a few years ago, and now with newer materials and technology, I think it does make a difference. Pretty sure the study was just mostly the fabric velcro type, not the newer kind with the bibs and materials that harden on impact. And I think either way the make a difference at lower ages where they strength, size, and weight aren't as much.
  18. I don't know. The quote from the police was that he did "as a result of the injury". It's not out of the realm of possibility that it was emergency trauma surgery as a last-ditch effort and just too much blood loss?
  19. If there was a yell, "hey ref you suck", I guarantee they'd be thrown out. I've seen it many times. So I don't buy any excuses from the refs. And while I'm on that: the refs have a hard job. But I'm tired of hearing, "we have such a hard time getting refs because they're abused". Sorry, it's part of the job. You can choose to control it, or ignore it. How hard is that? Oh, and a lot of the "abuse" is legit criticism for frankly some terrible officiating and total lack of controlling a game. Some of it is out of line and obviously unacceptable. Nobody's perfect and calls are going to be missed and bad calls made. But I've seen more abusive language hurled at the players than the refs, who I remind everyone, are children. Again, no one should be name-calling or threatening refs or anybody else. But lately in my observation this is just becoming an excuse to permit bad officiating. That said, I've seen many games that were called perfectly. Usually when I see who the refs are I know how it will go. And I agree, that guard shouldn't work a game ever again.
  20. This wasn't local, but its an important reminder to stress wearing a throat guard. I don't know if he had one or not, or if he was wearing one and it failed, or if it wouldn't have mattered either way. But all the same, it's a grim reminder to be as safe as you possibly can out there. What a nightmare. My heart goes out to his family, teammates, and friends. https://www.newstimes.com/news/article/St-Luke-s-identifies-Teddy-Balkind-as-student-16757105.php?cmpid=fbsocialflow
