  1. Someone will figure out this is the perfect chance to make money and host their own Nationals in place of the real ones.
  2. Since it's a major year, the advantage might be playing your normal PAHL schedule but find some out of area teams of the same birthyear who would play. Depending on skill you might find some 09s who can play with your kids next year and that won't prevent you from playing other 08 teams. I'm not sure as a major team it matters mixed vs birthyear if you are taking the best available. It matters more when you want to play birthyear but need to get kids older to compete in Pahl.
  3. To be fair, even just travel hockey itself isn't doable for "most" families. It's a problem our sport suffers from.
  4. Feel good moment of the decade on this board right here
  5. Short answer is 9 year olds up there can play against only other 9 year olds and the depth is there to set strong and competitive divisions.
  6. My impression of lebo is less about corruption (unless we are talking about how they don't have truly open elections for their board) and more about how the whole organization is set up to support one person's children.
  7. Might be a few hundred trolls on this site ?
  8. Also if Lebo Hornets were actually doing this for "the love of hockey" they might spend a little more time on all the other teams that don't have one of his kids on it.
  9. I've gotta agree on this one. Everything I've ever heard from anyone about him + the limited experiences I have had - that whole organization seems to be a one man show. It always amazes me that people pay these organizations to operate this way.
  10. We did start to go way off topic and when I read my first post, I don't want it interpreted that I don't care about girls hockey. Actually I think it's awesome they are growing the game and I think the black teams were and are a joke too begin with so good riddance. I do hope the girls teams don't detract from growing the game within PAHL but its kind of silly we are comparing older girls to boys in the level of PAHL they play.
  11. Just got an email about this tourney. If people have any doubts parents are dilusional, want to play AAA for bragging, need that pens jersey, or think Little Johnny is NHL bound at 10, look no further than this: https://www.selectshockey.com/event/the-draft/
  12. Re: another team that might pop up to fill the void, I really don't think so. I still believe many parents (and maybe their kids too) pick pens for the jersey and the bragging rights. Another team wouldn't fill that void - might as well play PAHL if you aren't a penguin.
  13. Was this just to make ice time for the new girls teams?
  14. Just to clarify, I also agree that you can be approached by folks who are preying on you for money (tryout money, practice money, faux-AAA team money, etc.) At the same time, unless you played somewhere remote where there were not the kids to play AA hockey, it's unlikely you would jump from lower than AA (maybe A major 1 in a minor birthyear) to AAA and I stand beside my argument that coaches go out and find these kids and try to recruit them even at the mite level and even at Pens Elite as ridiculous as that is.
  15. Not saying it never happens but 99% of the time if you have been around PAHL for a year or more someone would approach you (your parents) about trying out for a AAA team If you are standing out enough to look that good. Exception might be "AAA" squirt year 1. I doubt many kids show up cold turkey and make a team.
  16. They might want to fix the broken glass, the leaning boards, and the stench before a rebrand will make much of a dent in their lack of recruitment for high quality teams.
  17. Has nothing to do with Vengeance specifically. A couple reasons: 1) it looks like your kids are looking to move to AA which means unless there was something strange or your kid excelled like crazy it would be really hard to leap right onto a AAA team 2) multiple things documented on this site about the quality of AAA hockey at the younger ages, the costs and travel involved especially with multiple kids. 3). The fact that your child will likely be developed as a part of a birthyear team within PAHL but more likely to be treated like a horse to be replaced at AAA 4) The fact that, looking at the 2010 vengeance team they aren't competitive in PAHL
  18. I think you were the same guy posting in the other thread. I would look at SHAHA to see if they are putting together an A major birthyear team before you think Vengeance - for multiple reasons.
  19. I'm gonna guess ZERO because bragging about your kids playing Vengeance doesn't sound the same as telling everyone they play for the Penguins. That logo sells more than coaching ever will.
