Midam/USA hockey decision on hockey
Saucey replied to Wes's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Not that I want to get into the middle of this, but his point was that not everyone is currently voting by party line. You may be right, that may yet come. I'm tired of people voting strictly by party. Our two-system-you-suck-if-you -aren't -for-me attitude of our politicians and Facebook memes are not moving our country forward. Need to work together. That used to happen. Not gonna happen any time soon. -
Vengeance/SCIR - where do you draw the line?
Saucey replied to Jack Handey's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I've asked this question before too, because I didn't think it was permissable but it's not a no no until there is Tier 1 at 14u is how it was explained to me. (There is no true AAA until 14u as others have said, when you compete at Nationals.) I have no ax to grind then or now, just didn't understand it and agree it is confusing. (Why can't you play independent games under your PAHL team name? ?♂️) I think the dual thing made it difficult for them sometimes, I know the Vengeance younger teams had trouble getting into some tournaments, directors questioning their ability to hang because they played PAHL. Also, you know if you play those crap PAHL teams it drags down your my hockey rankings.... -
Midam/USA hockey decision on hockey

Mid Am and USA Hockey have said your game has to be compliant with your local regs. That is why people are calling and petitioning their legislatures. Ohio is operating under different rules. It's still not entirely normal there either. -

The Allegheny County Health Department is a bit closer. The rink is going to get the most backlash. Maybe it slides if there is no outbreak. But do you really think that is not going to happen? I hope. -

This is what everyone keeps missing. USA Hockey and MidAm are the enforcers, not PIHL and PAHL. And I don't suggest everyone lies about how many kids are on the ice, as @hockeyisgreat seems to suggest everyone should do. Dear lord, this small hockey town can't keep anything a secret, let alone expect that level of cooperation. Bad idea. No one is really able to play a full game at any level in any nearby state, except in Ohio. This insistence that you can in Pa is crazy. -
90 More Days in the Hole!

The legislature is made up of the House and the Senate. The bill passed the House committee. Then it goes to the Senate for a vote. The 2/3 is needed to avoid a veto by the Governor. This bill was in committee. There are lots of committees. It takes time to make laws. It's the legislative process. This bill only applies to school districts, to let them decide whether to have sports. -

We know, but it is entertaining. And also....people are so wacky, there is a slight thought in my head that someone would. Be more believable in a Squirt parent, because across the board, they get nuttier and nuttier it seems each year. -

Nah, gold helmet rejects are forever too good for PAHL or school hockey. They go to Icemen. I have to say, it's much more entertaining to go back to the regularly scheduled agenda of PE bashing than more COVID talk. -
Quinlan2020 is obviously doing a lot of hand wringing, but I don't think it's fair to say that kids just not dying is the only concern. I agree, playing seems to have been largely unproblematic so far. Hope it continues as kids return to school. This is the most mingling that we will have seen since March of any population.

PPE - no games this season???
Saucey replied to dazedandconfused's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I don't know what the Pens told their parents, but there shouldn't be a single one of us writing any check to any organization who wasn't aware that there is a huge risk that your kid might not get games this season. So I am sure their parents were aware, regardless of what you might have been told and were still willing to risk it. They told their kids they couldn't play school sports, however, due to Covid. That I would be pretty mad about. If they can get some games in, let them. -

Not a good look, the holier than thou. Not that I disagree that this isn't annoying, but it's common knowledge that there were elite teams playing at Alpha while we were shut down. They might not have been doing it under the Pens' banner, but I find it hard to believe that didn't get back to them. So I wouldn't be so superior. Angry, ok, but there are plenty of people rule avoiding, including within the Pens Elite program. -
Not in Pa, it's not. Playing five on five with your full roster is not a choice in PA. Everyone insisting that they can, you are going to get the rinks shut down. Why can't you be a little patient? Why is it that rules are no longer real things? I get you don't like them. I want my kids playing too. The few gonna ruin it for everyone.
-
Uh oh h. I sincerely doubt they got insurance. Who is going to write that policy? I hope the rinks all follow the rules. It is really, really an incredibly bad look for the sport when people are trying to get the law changed and you have a decent segment of that population demonstrating they can't follow the rules as they are. Going to get us all shut down you jag offs.

Yes, I was responding to someone who mentioned using the pod concept adopted by football. -

Or just time entry and exit so everyone is out before letting in people for the next game. Or use a different exit/entry. Most rinks have lots of ways to get in and out. That could work. -

Things are confusing right now (since the pandemic, right?) because there is a 25 person indoor rule for PA, but not all rinks are following it. Or interpreting it very loosely. The Atlantic division put the 25 in place. I think Mid Am is expected to come out with something similar. USA hockey has published detailed return to hockey guidelines, but also footnotes it with you have to follow your state rules. We will hear soon I hope, impossible to try and plan a season otherwise. -

A rule being in place and people following that rule are two different things. -
PPE - no games this season???
Saucey replied to dazedandconfused's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I get tired of the PPE bashing too and question the truth of this. But if you are a parent upset about games not being scheduled, then you are kind of not very bright. Any AAA or 'independent' organization is in the same boat this year. Tier II as well for tournaments. Before teams were set, it was pretty clear that out of state travel was going to be up in the air. Quarantine lists, Canada's closed borders....duh. I can't imagine trying to put a multi state schedule together right now. All of our rinks have different rules just around here, then add in different states' rules ... it's a nightmare. -
If we get to play, it's just going to be weird and hard. We can expect these rolling quarantine black outs like SF, particularly with back to school. Rescheduling games is going to be interesting. Think about it.... that's potentially four games if a team had to quarantine. And then if it is one of those independent teams that schedules 4 PAHL games in a weekend....bleh. It will be interesting to see if a season can be completed.
-
I think people are really hoping for a vaccine.
-
Yes, I heard that is possible. Too many smaller organizations haven't had their tryouts yet due to lack of ice. If we get a season, it may be very different than we are used to.
-
Kids are going to be kids. I had to remind them to keep their masks up at practice. Shame on parents, tho.
-
People are getting better from what I've seen. More mask wearing. My rink has really cracked down.

The lack of good local D1 hockey in WPA
Saucey replied to Wes's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
There isn't enough ice. Teams could choose not to play all those games, however. Chasing My Hockey rankings with Ws is not the same as development.
