  1. Not a good look, the holier than thou. Not that I disagree that this isn't annoying, but it's common knowledge that there were elite teams playing at Alpha while we were shut down. They might not have been doing it under the Pens' banner, but I find it hard to believe that didn't get back to them. So I wouldn't be so superior. Angry, ok, but there are plenty of people rule avoiding, including within the Pens Elite program.
  2. Not in Pa, it's not. Playing five on five with your full roster is not a choice in PA. Everyone insisting that they can, you are going to get the rinks shut down. Why can't you be a little patient? Why is it that rules are no longer real things? I get you don't like them. I want my kids playing too. The few gonna ruin it for everyone.
  3. Uh oh h. I sincerely doubt they got insurance. Who is going to write that policy? I hope the rinks all follow the rules. It is really, really an incredibly bad look for the sport when people are trying to get the law changed and you have a decent segment of that population demonstrating they can't follow the rules as they are. Going to get us all shut down you jag offs.
  4. Yes, I was responding to someone who mentioned using the pod concept adopted by football.
  5. Or just time entry and exit so everyone is out before letting in people for the next game. Or use a different exit/entry. Most rinks have lots of ways to get in and out. That could work.
  6. Things are confusing right now (since the pandemic, right?) because there is a 25 person indoor rule for PA, but not all rinks are following it. Or interpreting it very loosely. The Atlantic division put the 25 in place. I think Mid Am is expected to come out with something similar. USA hockey has published detailed return to hockey guidelines, but also footnotes it with you have to follow your state rules. We will hear soon I hope, impossible to try and plan a season otherwise.
  7. A rule being in place and people following that rule are two different things.
  8. I get tired of the PPE bashing too and question the truth of this. But if you are a parent upset about games not being scheduled, then you are kind of not very bright. Any AAA or 'independent' organization is in the same boat this year. Tier II as well for tournaments. Before teams were set, it was pretty clear that out of state travel was going to be up in the air. Quarantine lists, Canada's closed borders....duh. I can't imagine trying to put a multi state schedule together right now. All of our rinks have different rules just around here, then add in different states' rules ... it's a nightmare.
  9. If we get to play, it's just going to be weird and hard. We can expect these rolling quarantine black outs like SF, particularly with back to school. Rescheduling games is going to be interesting. Think about it.... that's potentially four games if a team had to quarantine. And then if it is one of those independent teams that schedules 4 PAHL games in a weekend....bleh. It will be interesting to see if a season can be completed.
  10. I think people are really hoping for a vaccine.
  11. Yes, I heard that is possible. Too many smaller organizations haven't had their tryouts yet due to lack of ice. If we get a season, it may be very different than we are used to.
  12. Kids are going to be kids. I had to remind them to keep their masks up at practice. Shame on parents, tho.
  13. People are getting better from what I've seen. More mask wearing. My rink has really cracked down.
  14. There isn't enough ice. Teams could choose not to play all those games, however. Chasing My Hockey rankings with Ws is not the same as development.
  15. Do other D1 programs have local kids on the roster? I've always been told that statistically your kids' chance of playing D1 is slim because you are competing with the world of hockey players for a spot. Wouldn't make much sense for RMU to do that only to get slaughtered by all the other D1 teams who recruit from the world's pool and don't limit themselves to local players.
  16. I disagree with this a little. My family struggles to go to anything extra during the hockey season because we are .... playing hockey. I would love to catch more of those things but we can only be in one place at a time. Maybe marketing should be broader than the hockey community. The RMU games are so much fun, but really....when do I have time? I would love to go to the Three Rivers Classic but someone is always in a tournament. We are lucky to catch one Wheelers or Phantoms game a season and a few Pens games.
  17. I make a distinction between sports and gyms. I didn't see sports listed.
  18. As others said, the people playing on these teams don't want a local option. They want lots of travel for 'better' competition.
  19. I don't know. You may be right, but people are happy to have it. Games can be watched later, too. My kid is doing all kinds of weird things to play football (or rather, not really play football) but he has 0 complaints. He is happy to see his friends and get something normalish. So much is really out of everyone's hands right now. Whether people agree or not I hope everyone complies, because if we get outbreaks and it is learned there was widespread non-compliance it will be shut down. And life is so much better with my kids able to be active and social a little.
  20. No one has a definite answer on that. There is not a single thing that you can do right now that doesn't have more risk than usual attached to it. I will probably look into travel insurance. I used it once when my kid sustained an injury in soccer one season to get back league fees. The organization wasn't out my money, which they use to operate, and I got my money back. The bigger risk is going to a tournament I think. A lot of those for profit companies are shady in good times. Add in constantly changing quarantine rules, and you won't know when you might be asked to stay home.
  21. That is pretty awful, offensive and has nothing to do with hockey. Can't people go talk politics and COVID somewhere else? This board sucks more than usual. I can't believe it, but I miss histrionics over Pens Elite cutting little Johnny.
  22. How is this thread related to hockey? Let's move the virus talk elsewhere. Lots of other places to discuss.
  23. There is no point in arguing and attacking each other. This is what a highly contagious virus does. With kids hopping rinks, trying out everywhere and doing skills, stick times all over....you got a kid on the ice, you are somehow connected to everyone in the hockey community. We aren't playing six degrees of Kevin Bacon anymore...it's six degrees of who tested positive for Covid. ? Only a matter of time, particularly with the amount of science deniers out there. I want hockey. My house is happier with skates on again. Mood, exercise, socializing. But it is hard to see how this can work, particularly because we have so many people unwilling to do the smallest things to prevent spread.
  24. Sometimes. Mostly they are hard to find amidst the pats on the back, the ranting and s%&-ing on people who disagree with him.
  25. I think a lot of families use a tryout this way. It isn't always easy to keep their feet moving before the program that they want tries out.
