  1. Cowbell. Another suggestion is to get a few other parents on board and submit the complaint jointly. It will have a greater impact and will lessen the effect on your personal relationship with the local coordinator. You'll also need others to support your complaint so it's not a he said she said type of thing. And by all means if something illegal (from abuse to theft) report it immediately to the local authorities. Best of luck and hope for the quickest of resolution.

  3. It's very simple. WPA DOES NOT develop hockey players. They take the money. Play lots of games and leave a bunch of kids wanting. I go to a lot of games. The fundamentals that are lacking in our kids is obvious. They can skate and shoot with the best of any one. It's how they play the game that leaves them behind. Maybe instead of kids under the age of 16 playing 60 games and having 40+ on ice practices. They should have 100 practices and 30 games. The NCAA has that sort of schedule and it doesn't seem to hurt the development of their players.
  4. What does this say about SSA. Same league but kids willing to leave the area. Yikes.
  5. Top 4 Junior league in North America. As I mentioned previously. If your kid plays there he is ineligible to play NCAA DI or DIII hockey. My advice. If your son isn't going to be a top 6 fwd or top 4 D then play USHL, NAHL, AJHL, CCHL, BCHL, or USPHL. If he's good enough for the WHL then he's good enough for those leagues. Gets to play juniors and if good enough will still get scouted and drafted by the NHL. If not good enough to get drafted, then college is still an option and can chase his pro dreams four years later with a college degree. And if he really blows up at college. He can leave and be an undrafted FA in the NHL. The Pens have done pretty good with those guys.
  6. There's the obvious 5 - Ontario, Quebec and Western leagues in Canada and the USHL and NAHL in the US. Although the first 3 players are not allowed to play NCAA hockey. The others I think are above board and do put kids at DI and DIII schools with regularity are the Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL), CCHL (Central Canadian Hockey League), BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League), the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) and USPHL. I might have missed one or two. Then you have the NE Prep Schools and the scattering of legit prep schools across the US and Canada. Most offer a post grad year (PG) to get the kids a year older before entering college. Again If you kid doesn't want to go to college and wants to play hockey. There are "junior hockey leagues" all over the place. But if you think your kid may be able to get a scholarship or look at DIII then these are the best leagues. If in doubt. Look at a league's or team's commitment list and then see how they did at their new team.
  7. Doesn't make his information wrong. The biggest thing for everyone to look at is placements. Most leagues out there have a placement that equals the PIHL/PAHL - college club hockey. Some juice it up by saying some DI or DIII school but then check the rosters and they are on the ACHA team. And take the NA3HL placement with the NAHL with a grain of salt. They are contractually obligated to take one player from the league. And that's all they take and they return almost all of them. In reality there are only about 10 leagues worth the money in North America. The rest are crap. Save your money. Play college club.
  8. In addition. Go to thejumiorhockeynews.com and read the death pool articles.
  9. I mentioned this in the previous thread but I see it more like Mystery Alaska where once a shift is over instead of returning to the bench. They skate out the Zamboni door until the next group follows them.
  10. Why Paul? I'm thrilled to see some semblance of normal with all that's going on around me. Tryout season means lunatic threads and responses. So please don't take away this. My mental health needs it.
  11. Here's the thing. Most of these players (pro and college) are just showing up which means they were exposed to it prior to arriving. Like 90 percent of the people tested have/had it. Of the ten percent that have it most don't need hospitalization and just need to be quarantined at home. The sky isn't falling. This isn't round 2.
  12. I've done literally 100 tryouts at all levels from pee wee to midget A, AA and AAA. Goalies are tough but just making more saves doesn't tell the whole story. I look at how the kid moves in the net. Does he/she sit back in the net or on top of the crease. How do they track the puck. Recovery. The higher the level the more important those things are. I had parents track saves in scrimmages or during the tryout thinking that's the be all end all. I ask him what was the percentage of saves made with kids who actually made the team vs the kids we were going to cut. I told him I had the numbers and his son finished 4th of 6th. Lying through my teeth but the guy believed me. In reality his son lack athleticism and the didn't make a save that didn't hit him. Played against him in a tournament and was lit up for 6 or 7 goals and didn't play the 3rd period.
  13. I'm actually thinking that scene from Mystery Alaska will be recreated. Once a shift is done. They skate off the ice and to the locker room and are replaced on the bench by 5 new fresh guys. I wonder if the governor is going to do the same with HS football. Only allow 22 players per team, 1 coach and 1 ref. How about the marching band? I've seen bands with 100+ members. 6ft social distancing That's 600 sq yards need to be available. Feel sorry for the schools than now have to get 5 or 6 buses instead of 2, You know. Social distancing. It really has gotten out of hand. It's either safe or not. Limiting people won't change a thing.
  14. I'm actually excited to see this. Can't wait until the first player gets a 2 and 10. Then watch 9 skaters go out at for the misconduct. I also want to see what happens if a player gets injured. Does someone run down from the stands. Maybe each organization can fathom something like the NHL has for a 2rd goalie. For every home game, they must have a designated sub in case of injury or misconduct. The U 18 and 16 levels will also be fun to watch with one ref. He/she easily can watch for penalties and off sides and pucks crossing the goal line all at once. I wouldn't play. Wonder if she is going to limit HS marching bands?
  15. I agree. What I am saying is most quality Junior A leagues recruit or draft their players from U16, Very few come from U18 rosters from the year before.
  16. Have you been to these U-18 showcases? If so. How many college and junior scouts are there? At least scouts from legitimate junior leagues not some of the crap that is out there. As for playing after HS. There are tons of places to play. Most schools have club teams. Some more than 1. But most of the kids playing on these teams did not play AAA hockey as HS seniors. Although with the growth of AAA hockey teams, I can see that changing since 90 percent of the U-18 teams will be AAA in about 5 years. Playing AAA as a senior won't improve your chances of playing at most of these programs against those playing in PAHL and of HS hockey.
  17. Hopefully it is the realization that U-18 AAA hockey is highly overrated and waste of time and money. Most Colleges have stopped recruiting this age group. They are heavily on the younger kids because that's where recruiting is now. Also, the best kids in this group are playing Junior or at elite prep schools. Some lower lever junior leagues may be there scouting but I guarantee you few if any DI coaches are. Take a look at the NHL draft rankings. Show me the kids that are playing U-18 hockey on the list.
  18. It's what the doctor puts on the first line of the death certificate. A patient may die from a heart attack but if he/she had COVID the doctor can put COVID first, heart attack 2nd and maybe hypertension 3rd. By doing this, his/her hospital gets reimbursed 20 percent more. And one more point. NY, NJ, PA and now MI had over a third of their deaths coming from nursing homes. If these patients weren't put these situations (and sorry Governors Cuomo and Wolf CDC guidelines were specific on what to do with nursing home patients who tested positive for COVID). Maybe if followed 25 - 20 percent of deaths nationwide could have been prevented.
  19. Thanks for mentioning it. I would like to add that the CDC has said no tests were needed to determine if the person died of COVID or from something else. It is important to mention that because Medicare reimburses hospitals and nursing homes at 20 percent higher. So hospitals and nursing homes have no reason to look to see if something else caused the death. And remember, a vast majority of people dying are over 75 and/or have other pre existing conditions.
  20. I also forgot to mention something that is also important and you can decide what significance you want to put on it. They are counting Covid patients a little weird. Say I went in for a knee replacement. I get tested and it is determined I have Covid. That confirm case is attributed to being hospitalized since the hospital was the place it was determined I had the virus.
  21. Partially true. What has stayed pretty much consistent, even in states that have seen a "spike" is the percentage of people tested that have it. It's been hovering around 4.5 percent. The more people tested. The more people are determine to have it. But like before, most are asymptomatic or a feeling off for a couple of days. As for reports of hospitals filling up. That is partially true. Because hospitals were basically shut down except for emergencies or life threatening treatments for 3 months. That backlogs are starting to fill beds. As you can imagine. There are more elective surgeries or things like hip and knee replacements than normal because they are 3 months behind. Also more people are out which means an increase in accidents. Whereas a few weeks ago ICUs were primarily Covid patients. They are being used as normal. Those are the main reasons why some hospitals are being crowded. There has been a slight uptick in the number of people who need ICU because of the virus but it is not too significant.
  22. This is awesome news. Now WPA can have it's own AAA league like in Detroit. Our kids won't have to travel 16 of 18 weekends and hundreds of players from around the country (and in Esmark's case the world) will come here to experience the joy and privilege of playing AAA hockey, a level they were born to play. The 40 -80 AAA players from WPA no longer have to leave the area to find their rightful place on AAA rosters instead of A Black. And with the higher class means better coaching, better use of resources and much better product so the parents won't feel bad about shelling out a few extra thousands for this happen. Glorious day. Never thought I would live long enough to see this happen. Just hope Corona doesn't get me before the season starts.
  23. This is what I was told by league officials except I go to a ton of basketball games and heard 2 F Bombs in the past 5 or 6 years. Guess what happened? Both times the kids were assessed a T and the coach put their ass on the bench. I think. But I am not sure. I think HS basketball players are the same age as high school hockey players. When I coached. I had the same policy. If I heard curse words. The player was on the bench. Guess what? My teams didn't swear. Why did I impose this rule? Because my team is represents me. I stressed this in the pre season meeting so there wasn't any gray area. Trust me. I got calls from irate parents. I read them the USA Standard Code of conduct that their kid signed. One parent didn't want to hear it until I said I would be happy to discuss my benching with him, the kid and the school's AD and they can explain why telling a player to F off is not worthy of a benching. That was the last time a parent or kid complained about my team rule for the next 4 years. As for the parents. Same thing. If the league would tell the sheriffs to eject anyone who swears. Guess it will happen a couple of times. But it will stop. But I am old and I guess you like the atmosphere of everyone cursing. I am sure you are thrilled when it happens in front of you pre teen kid or grandchild.
  24. https://tribhssn.triblive.com/foul-language-physical-contact-will-earn-2-game-suspension-under-new-piaa-rule/ Took my grandson to a Plum game a few years ago because his best friend's brother played for them. Left 10 minutes in to the game because the F bombs by the coaches, players and fans was probably over 20 and that's not an overstatement. Talked to a couple of PIHL people and refs later and said they need to do something. Was told nothing could be done. I reminded them everyone signs USA Code of Conduct which states foul language will not be tolerated.
