I was told it will come in under 30,000 for PPE, excel and NC. Travel is additional.

It has been 3 years. A lot can happen.

Mites to Squirts - Choosing Positions
twoboys replied to newhockeydad's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
I think he will quickly fall behind if he isn’t skating as often as the other kids. And I agree that the other parents will be judgmental if he can’t keep up as a skater. -
From what I heard and what you guys are talking about, it is clear that none of you know what happened. You guys are missing part of the story.

I think it if you get 10 misconduct penalties in league play then you are ineligible for playoffs. So, it seems as if the minor penalties which lead to FPP are not longer the emphasis. Instead they are focusing on the 10 minute misconducts.

They want the coach to take ownership of the "dirty" player or players. Honestly, everyone, coaches and parents, will know pretty early in the season which kids are trouble. Most of the time, coaches and parents even know this ahead of time. This rule will likely only impact, at most, a few players in each division.
-
Exactly. I think this is actually pretty lenient. We shouldn't be bending over backwards to let this player play.

I am looking forward to seeing the tournament play out. It will all depend on whether a coach plays to win or not. Some of the teams have never had the need to play to win. They could play all of their players and still win. This won't be case when they play some of the bigger guns.

USA Hockey player development camps
twoboys replied to RefHannah's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
You also have to remember that Mid Am is more than Western Pennsylvania. Columbus, Cleveland, Indy and Toledo all have talented players. You may not even realize the Toledo kids are in the Mid Am pool since those kids are usually playing for Detroit area teams. And by the time 15U rolls around you have probably forgot about some kids cause Indy only has a 16U team and some kids are playing 16U at Culver. Zero chance a top 10 kid in Mid Am doesn't make the development camp. Natty camp is a different story. They tell you that basically half the kids that make natty camp one year don't make it the next. In other words, they take different kids every year. And please don't cite stats. We all know those are flawed. A hattrick against a lousy team isn't as meaningful as a goal against a top 20 team. Don't get me started on assists. Those are the worst. -
USA Hockey player development camps
twoboys replied to RefHannah's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
What birthyears? Guessing it has to be 09 and 10. In my experience across two birth years, there is no way a top 10 player doesn't make the development camp. Natty camp is a different story. Being realistic, most top 10 players at the younger ages from Pittsburgh are with the Pens. The 08 Vengeance from last year was the exception. This will change as the kids get older. And there is no way all of the Pens kids don't make the development camp. I have heard about only one instance where this happened. -
You might be a delusional hockey parent

Thought you might find this interesting. Rink Live looked into NAHL tenders. Far more stick around than you think. https://www.therinklive.com/junior-and-prospects/nahl/analysis-of-nahl-tenders-signed-in-2022-23-shows-which-teams-follow-through-the-most -
I think you miss the point about tournaments and travel. You should do these things because kids enjoy them and it adds to the experience. If you are too lazy to take you kid to a jamboree at Armstrong or you are too cheap to take your kid to an out of town tournament in Cleveland, then hockey probably isn't for you and you should get out now.

School teams looking for coaches
twoboys replied to nemesis8679's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
If a coach is serious about winning he isn't rolling 4 lines. At the very least he is making sure to have his preferred lines go up against the other teams top line. Most to the time there is a huge difference between the first line and fourth line. -
Think you missed a few. I came up with 9 that have ties to Pittsburgh. Although, I think one is an out of town PPE kid.

My kids are older now. Some years we did Spring hockey. Some years we didn't. Some years one kid did it and not the other. Some years both did it. People clearly have an axe to grind. I think it all comes down to the fact that some parents don't want to or can't spend the money on Spring hockey. To say your kids were out having fun with their friends probably means that you didn't want your kids playing Spring hockey for whatever reason. Because I can assure you that if I asked my kids if they wanted to play Spring hockey they would respond that they would like to play. The debate about Spring and Summer hockey doesn't end when the kids get older. The events just become more frequent and more expensive ... Mid Ams, Nahl combines, USHL combines, main camps, etc. You have to pick and choose. Can't do it all but you have do some things. Oh yeah, there are the lessons. And if you kid is going to be any good he/she better be doing lessons all summer. Guessing it will be at least a couple of times a week. Oh yeah. You gotta hit the gym too. None of this means that my kids are going to play NCAA hockey. It just means that they are doing what they can to give themselves a chance. -
What will happen to the good 2009 AA PAHL teams?
twoboys replied to RJUSHL's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
If you are an involved parent of a AA player chances are you know which teams are strong. -
Exactly.

One thing is clear, Alex Thomas was correct choice for player of year. The other 5 are debatable. I think less weight needs to be given to assists. If you are at all familiar with high school hockey then I don't need to explain why.

What will happen to the good 2009 AA PAHL teams?
twoboys replied to RJUSHL's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
Because the vast majority of kids and parents don't want this. It isn't about being on the best team. It is all about having continuity, the kid having fun and being on a reasonable team. -
The early rounds had two ticket takers. One from each team. They were supposed to charge the PIHL playoff ticket price. And they had to stay for 10 minutes after the game started.
