That’s a great story. But, you are out of touch with how top tier youth hockey and advancement to real juniors and NCAA works these days. USAHockey is even working against you now. They are planning a a nationwide 17u league for the best teams in the country to compete in, and be recruited from. I don’t know if players in that Preds team will advance to higher levels, but they are No. 10 in the country, and playing against the best in North America. So, I’m sure that’s the aspiration. If so, high school hockey is unfortunately in the rearview. Some will regret it, some won’t. I wish things could go back to the way you describe, but the reality is the path of the tremendous players you mentioned no longer exists. You conveniently skipped mentioning a whole generation of more recent local players that are playing juniors, NCAA, and Pro that left high school hockey behind. -

If you are playing on a Top 10 team, high school hockey is not part of the equation. You wouldn’t know though! -
Just keep putting up 20+ goals a game. Eventually everyone in your division will be pissed and something will have to be done.

Sounds like an easy fix if PAHL can give it a half hour of attention, common sense, and actually care. Otherwise, this will be another team that eventually goes independent and their cost will increase yet again. A request to move a team up should be less scrutinized by PAHL. Make it the decision of the org and coaches. Then they have to deal with the aftermath if their egos were bigger than the team’s ability. I’ve seen this plenty of times, usually when dad coach/director want to brag to family and friends that his kid plays AA (result 1-19-1 record) 🙄 Moving a team down is where it gets tricky, to avoid sandbagging. The same dad coaches/directors that I mention above have usually tried this too. 😂

And all our membership fees will go up to support it! -
No local club hockey players are getting NIL money or athletic scholarship. Also, please don’t pick a WPA college/university based on club hockey programs!

….. parents shouldn’t be involved! College clubs are to be run by students. That’s part of the education and learning that if you really want something, you have to take ownership and be a leader.

PIHL Division Alignment 2025-26

Twoboys literally made this point 2 pages ago and your response was to promote those teams that require long distance travel. Which is it with you? And please save the cut and paste bold and red text 🙄 -
Oh I’ve seen that there. They were likely posted up in the same parking spaces they used for tailgating the previous 10 years at Renegades.

Any parent involved in their kid’s college club hockey team needs therapy.

Amen! Surprised he didn’t throw an ad in for one of his tournaments too.

They all think they are playing Jr next season 😉

MidAm Selections.....accurate?

In the last couple years I’ve seen teams picked that aren’t as strong as they could be seemingly to avoid bias, and spread the selections around the district -
MidAm Selections.....accurate?

People actually do that? -
Actually, it looks like 13O division for nationals is only 12 team format, so I guess they are are out 😬
-
They’re over it since they will still qualify for nationals.

Knowing when to parts ways with coach/team
stickboy replied to Macky85's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
The other posts are spot on, but I’d move on just to get away from the O bench coach if he is as you described. And I believe you as I’ve seen it many times! They typically don’t change, or go easily. So it’s not worth the headache for another season. He doesn’t get it (it’s PAHL A)! And his decisions are partly to blame for your team’s lack of success. The other players aren’t invested, especially later in the game, because they know what’s going to happen (Sonny gets the call). -
No. Pens don’t let you play high school hockey (most other top level amateur teams don’t either), and none of the other local teams that do are competitive enough to get a schedule that is scouted by those levels. I can only think of one player in recent years that played PIHL freshmen year, then left and was drafted to USHL and committed D1. There are other local kids drafted and committed but didn’t play PIHL for reasons above or other.

Me too, but with me it’s OCD
