  1. So what is the "hitting" this person was talking about, I wonder?
  2. NOTE TO EVERYONE HERE Just to let everyone know that my post above from yesterday did not cause Brooks Orpik to retire today. This is not my fault. Best wishes Brooks!
  3. Word I got was that it will be a rule at the start of the 2019 season. My guess is some butt-hurt parents complained to USA Hockey about how little Johnny got so upset when he got laid out while dangling with his head down and all the mean kids on the other team celebrated by banging on the boards. So, instead of telling him to keep his head up, we will just create this new declaration, which is all about eliminating physical play in the new "modern game". I would love to know what USA Hockey views as the new "modern game" of hockey. My guess is the goal is to create more Conner McDavids, Austin Matthews and Nikita Kucherovs. Gone will be the Scotty Stevens, Brooks Orpiks, Tom Wilsons and Ryan Reeves (although I always hated Reeves).
  4. I have to go with King on this one as well. His post was spot on. While it is nice that one person credited USA Hockey, it is still just one. I am so glad that my kid is now out of this mess. For me it started when they moved checking from Peewees to Bantams. They younger you get them playing contact, the earlier you can teach them the right was and the responsible way to initiate contact. For me it was a bad move. Now with this years resolution there are even more useless rules.
  5. Don't think it's about misconduct or abuse of Officials. Below is a link to the video from Pat Kelleher, where he explains it toward the end. It is geared towards when players on the bench cheer on a teammate for making a body check (even if it is a legal body check per the Declaration of Safety Fair Play and Respect). They have deemed it "disrespectful" to bang on the boards to applaud this going forward. This is the exact wording from the declaration: UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT A bench minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct shall be assessed to any team whose players or team officials commit the following actions while on the players’ bench: (5) Banging the boards with a stick or other object, including skates or arms, at any time, including after a body check regardless as to whether the check is being penalized.
  6. So, the banging of the boards after the playing of the National Anthem, and when an injured player is helped off the ice is annoying?
  7. What about after the National Anthem? Right after the anthem, players usually bang their sticks to cheer. That would be an interesting one! A team gets a penalty for banging the boards after the anthem and gets a penalty due to a USA Hockey rule. How ironic would that be!
  8. Sadday and dropthepuck. I agree on both. This is where I was going with the question. The goalie makes a great save during a shootout, everyone bangs the boards. Ref blows the whistle and assess a penalty. He didn't call it a penalty during the game, now during the shootout it is one. The last thing we need is the refs to have more input on the outcome of a game.
  9. Agreed. Now, it does say anytime. So, what about after a goal? What about after a teams 10th goal (during a blow-out)? Now, let's take my absurd argument to the next level, when an injured player leaves the ice?
  10. Ok, but that's not what it says. It says "Banging the boards with a stick or other object at anytime" I get what you are saying. You think it applies to someone who strikes the boards or glass in anger. Now, take a look at this link: https://www.mihockey.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Declaration-of-Safety-Fair-Play-and-Respect1.pdf
  11. This was forwarded to me over the weekend as a new rule for 2019-20 for USA Hockey (b) A bench minor penalty shall be assessed to any team who’s players or team officials commit the following actions while on the player’s bench: 5. Banging the boards with a stick or other object at anytime. Here is the link to the full rule: https://www.usahockeyrulebook.com/page/show/1084645-rule-601-abuse-of-officials-and-other-misconduct Is this a new rule and if so, it states that a player cannot bang the boards at anytime. So, if a player is injured, and is then taken off the ice, and the opposing team taps the boards with their stick, will they be assessed a penalty? I am not sure I understand this rule.
  12. And that is exactly what King said in his post. A "He-said/He-said" situation, where both are accusing each other. From what I have been told Yuri is no saint (but my kid had never played for him or even tried out for his teams, but I did speak to him once), but no parent should be going around saying stuff like this about him. King also pointed out in the end it will be the kid that loses because he will not benefit from being on either team. That is what I agreed with him on.
  13. Lots of assumptions in that post: 1. You are assuming that everyone who posts on here is an adult. Not true, there is no age verification. There are "children" who post on here (children being a person who is under 18). I know this to be a fact. 2. You are assuming everyone who posts on here is involved in youth hockey. Not true, there are people who no longer have children involved, or are no longer involved themselves. There are people who post on here that do not have kids that play anymore. I know this to be a fact. 3. You are assuming that everyone here is in Pittsburgh, or at least in Western PA. Not true, there is no requirement that the IP address has to be local. There are people who post on here who are not from the area, and have never been part on the local hockey scene. I know this to be a fact.
  14. Truer words have never been spoken. This analysis hits the nail on the head, and explains exactly what is wrong with youth sports today.
  15. Yes, but I was responding to Dsv20 (quoted in my post). The USPHL Premier and Elite is the old Empire League, which at the time was listed alphabetically as Junior B. My point was Junior "A" hockey is leagues like the OHL, QMJHL, CJHL and in the US most likely the EHL, NAHL and 3HL. It is incorrect to compare these leagues to the Vengeance just because they both have the word "Junior" in it. Parents pay over $8,000/yr for their kids to play on the Vengeance. Junior "A" players don't pay anything to play. Thus, it would indeed be unfair for them to participate in a High School Hockey tournament .
  16. When did the Vengeance become Junior "A"? They are in the USPHL correct? Isn't that Tier III? Junior B at best I think.
  17. My opinion is it is a bad idea. Flag football is not regular football. If you want to play non-checking, try roller. You are correct, that kid is going to get lit-up when he moves to a checking league. I would love to know how many kids have gotten hurt with a CLEAN check over the years. The problem is with dirty hits, not checking. Discipline the kids who play dirty and the problem will fix itself. I think things were safer when you could check in peewees
  18. I think you are baiting me here, but ok, I'll play along. If a kid was that good, he (like all other coaches) would already know. Additionally. you are not the only person out there that wants to give big $$$ (LOL).
  19. Most likely they recruit. I would imagine the Recruit Me form is just a formality.
  20. Agree with Saucey. Get him doing other sports until the age of 14. Then he can concentrate on just one. My son is now in his 20's and I wish I had did that with him. He will develop all muscle group. and I will respectively disagree on roller hockey. My kid did it from 2008 to 2013. Went to NARCH Nationals, State Wars, Team USA for AAU all of it. He did nothing but develop bad skating habits, that took years to undo. Roller is too slow, and when he goes back to ice, his decision making was too slow. You do what you want, this is just my experience.
  21. I have to disagree. This forum was never about useful discussion. The original Eddie Shore who starting this forum was king jerk and this was just the kind of stuff he loved. I took my screen in his honor because he was the biggest douche of them all! ?
  22. Don't really care one way or the other, just posting to my 11th, so I can post in the new Very Important Board...................
  23. Confusing post. You said he would love to tryout for PPE because he is more "exposed" to that team, but you live closer to Vengeance and Esmark? You said that you don't think he is ready for PPE maturity wise, more so than skill, but your not sure he would stand a chance to make Vengeance and Esmark (with the idea that he is actually good enough)? You do understand PPE would be harder to make than Vengeance and Esmark correct? You also stated that he has played a year in travel hockey, yet you seem surprised that people on this board are "mean" and you and your kid will have to develop "thick skin"? I doubt anyone on here is "meaner" that what you would have encountered in your first year of travel, especially with a goalie. This is what "scared the pants off you", and "overwhelmed" you? This post? This "disheartened" you? I think you are right, you are not cut out for this, or any youth sport if this relatively tame post did all this to you. Good luck,
  24. No, even if you paid people and had friends in high places, the chances are the same. The ones who make it are the ones who deserve it.
