Bingo plus we are forgetting everything we know about how to keep kids healthy mentally, physically, and socially.

I'm not sure it's widespread enough that people on this board have actually had it. I personally know four individuals (3 adults and 1 child) who have had it according to test results. The child had no symptoms whatsoever. All three adults had extremely minor symptoms (the worst lost her appetite for a few days and felt like she had the flu for about 4 days). None had any lasting effects.

Woooosh. The point just flew over your head. I think you need to go back and read my other posts. I wear a mask when appropriate and socially distance myself. The comparison there was between a politician who says that matters but then does whatever the hell he wants (Wolf) and a politician who says it doesn't matter and does whatever the hell he wants (Trump). Seems like one is following what they actually say out loud. Both are/could be wrong here (in my opinion the likeliest case). You are also the one who, when I put a direct quote from the CDC website, said you would trust experts when I would not. I let it go at the time, returning to it now because you like throwing the science word around so much. So I'm not sure what else to say.

Not taking a side but wolf says it matters and those people including Trump say it doesn't....

Seeking input on ORG and RINK rating system
aaaahockey replied to Paul Baxter's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
This might give you some ideas:. The Athletic: NHL arena rankings: Grading every team's rink from best to worst. https://theathletic.com/1903161/2020/07/08/nhl-arena-rankings-grading-every-teams-rink-from-best-to-worst/?source=rss Also, I would think about concession stands at each rink PLUS what is around the rink locally which can be really important especially during tournaments. -

How cold is it in the rink is important haha. I'd also go with a specific question about watch ability of games, such as if the stands give a good view without instructions, glass isn't fogged up, etc. -
The Costs of AAA Hockey

Come on, which sounds better around the water cooler at work, "My kid plays Pens" or "My kid plays RMU". We both know the answer to that! Also which jersey is cooler? -
From the CDC website (WHO if that's your boat says rarely does it transmit asymptomatically): " There are reports of asymptomatic infections (detection of virus with no development of symptoms) and pre-symptomatic infections (detection of virus prior to development of symptoms) with SARS-CoV-2, but their role in transmission is not yet known." I understand why people might think differently based on the news stories we see or what politicians or others say, but seriously we don't know for sure about asymptomatic transmission. I think it's also important to note if you had a mild fever you might not realize it or mild symptoms like scratchy throat or light cough you might think it's allergies but you wouldn't be asymptomatic. Lots and lots of unknowns here.

@Quinlan2020 and I'm saying this with all seriousness, you may want to speak with someone about your anxiety. I'm not telling you not to wear a mask (I do when appropriate), or to allow your children to play hockey (you should make that decision based on risk profile of your family), but your posts kind of breathe an air of anxiety that doesn't seem healthy - especially in the North Hills thread. Things have been very hard on all of us over the last few months but if I can guarantee you one thing it is that people aren't coming to this hockey forum for medical advice or to change their mind about their kids playing. As for the mask scientific nature @Eddie Shore I think a lot of the problem is that not enough real research has been done either way. Hell we are dealing with a virus that months into massive amounts of transmission we still aren't certain really transmits through surfaces or not, not sure if it transmits asymptomatically often or not, not sure how often it spreads outside or in large rooms, and are making lots of decisions by the seat of our pants (deciding what to close and when without any real evidence or contact tracing). A very serious problem throughout the entire pandemic has been making decisions on a lack of data. Even if I disagreed with the scope of Allegheny County's bar ban, on the other side, I also applauded them for actually using some contact tracing data in making the decision. It was a step in the right direction. I would agree it would be wise to pause specific youth sports if serious cases arose from a specific sport. The way I see masks is they can't hurt, so I'm willing to do it, but if someone has serious trouble breathing when doing vigorous (or any) exercise they shouldn't wear it. I'm also skeptical they are as full proof as people pretend they are just like I am skeptical of standing 6 feet apart on a piece of tape is going to do anything serious, but I still do it because how the hell would I know? Dammit Jim I'm a hockey dad not a scientist.

Even worse imagine pens elite being split into a top and bottom team. I wouldn't wanna be around some of those parents.... -

I think this will get revised for the size of building at some point. Obviously we never know. More curiously if this did happen, if you picked 18 kids for a team, how do you pick which 10 stay on that team? Another tryout? -

Back on topic, the health department indicated in their briefing today that youth sports and gyms didn't seem to be a major source of the outbreak. Still mostly confined to bars - and they might even reopen outdoor dining. -

Love that idea go ahead and start it haha -
Reading the FAQ I am not too worried about it. Unless it's changed since yesterday you do not need to wear a mask while actively participating in sports only when you come off the field (or I would assume ice). I think this can be adjusted fairly easily for hockey to be face shields count. I would pity coaches having to try to mask up every mite kid when they come off for a shift but luckily I'm too old to have to worry about that now haha.

Same experiences for me where we have overlapped. Printscape did take temps at door but weren't enforcing any kind of masking or social distancing once I was in the stands (there were signs). Bethel Park was being very strict with masks and not letting anyone but skaters in the building and only 20 on the ice for a while now so I doubt they will need to change much. -
The Costs of AAA Hockey
aaaahockey replied to Lifelongbender's topic in Western Pennsylvania Youth Hockey
AAA hockey is strange because there is such variation in quality and travel. It seems like the teams in our area either can't or won't play each other at the younger ages (where there probably shouldn't be any AAA hockey at all) and the "premier" team is definitely Pens by u15/16 ish but they import about half the best players from all over the country. I could see a lot of price variation depending on the model and how much you could play local (and by local even meaning Buffalo, Cleveland etc.) All that being said, I'm a fan of people spending their money on whatever they feel like, so if it floats their boat (and hopefully their kids), it isn't my money they are wasting. Go for it! I think we all have our own perspective on what costs too much or what is good for our own families but a lot of non-hockey families would probably think we are nuts if you just add up PAHL fees + high school fees. Especially if you have more than one kid and add in the travel for several tournaments. It's all a matter of perspective. -

I will say as I watched the county briefing on Covid I kept expecting @Danner27 to take the stage and give us updates on how many cases his text messages have contact traced to Preds tryouts. Maybe you should start giving daily numbers of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths along with the 7 day moving averages! -

I know they were closed "for the holidays" July 5-6 and some of the activities (Quest 4v4) were postponed a week based on Allegheny County rules about gatherings I believe. Not sure about them not opening til the 10th but could be true. -

Wow. MSNBC much? I didn't say any of those things but the "scientists" are all saying you may or may not have a vaccine let alone one with efficacy, in the near future or ever. Go ahead and blast me though. That will help you.........I am glad you have a job that lets you stay at home and take care of the kids without any consequences whatsoever. Sorry for the other millions that don't. Also happy your kids won't suffer any psychological consequences of isolation or at home schooling (despite real experts saying otherwise). Sorry for the millions that will. Also happy you won't suffer for the consequences of substance abuse and mental depression. Sorry for the millions who will. Also happy you and your family won't suffer from domestic and sexual abuse and strife. Sorry for the millions that will. Congrats on your wealth and privilege. Hope bill gates delivers! -

Should we wait for a vaccine that may never come or what other metric for restarting schools do you propose?
